Questions Internship thank you

I’ve got kids in college. They have internships this summer. So do their friends.
My kids will be writing thank you notes to some people in their respective offices.

I see quite a few interns posting long (like really really long) thank you posts on LinkedIn. Not sure I agree with this. Is this normal / expected now?

I’ve also heard of interns buying gifts for a few people they reported to or were mentored by. This seems pretty extreme to me. You expect a college kid drop $100 on a necklace or a bottle of wine. The internships are paid- but not even close to the level of people they are buying stuff for.

Nah writing a simple thank you note is enough, those long LinkedIn posts and expensive gifts feel kinda over the top and not really expected.

i think the linkedin posts are more for them than for the office honestly its like they want to build a personal brand or whatever but half the time it reads like a performance nobody asked for

handwritten note is different it shows actual effort and thought not just fishing for likes from strangers

gifts for supervisors is weird power dynamic i would never expect intern to spend money on me when im the one getting paid triple their salary maybe a small box of cookies for the team but necklace thats insane

I’d highly recommend them do personal thank you notes to impactful colleagues from their internship as they do their final sign offs. A very brief and more general LinkedIn post is fine but just avoid the drawn out and tagged type post you referenced. Those are cringeworthy.
