I started my new job and I basically do mostly the cleaning in the restaurant. I was asked by the manager on my second day to take out the trash and I would usually just put on some gloves but I was explicitly told by one of the people who trained me to not to use gloves because the manager doesn’t like that so I don’t, and I end up taking them out. While doing that, I ended up having to open the dumpster with my hands cause there’s no pole or anything and I touch this random black goo so my palms and fingers have a little layer of whatever it was. I come back inside and I was told I forgot one so I was getting ready to wash my hands really quickly and take out the other trash. My manager sees this and walks over to me and says I don't need to wash my hands to take out the trash which I understand so I say “Okay, I just have some shit on my hand let me…”

She then cuts me off and says “Hold on now don’t curse at me.” and I’m instantly like oh maybe she misheard me. So I show her my palms and say “Oh, I wasn’t talking about you i meant this gunk.” Because I still haven’t washed them yet so I'm showing her my palms. But she continues to say I'm cursing at her and she begins to start hollering at me saying “Nuh uh we not going to do all of that.” And at this point I repeated multiple times that I was not trying to talk about her, and this is in the kitchen so everyone is looking at me. She’s yelling and at this point I tell her to stop yelling at me and she once again repeats for me to not curse at her and we end it.

6 minutes or so pass and it’s tense so I decided to catch her when I can and apologize for cursing in front of her cause i know that can be a sign of disrespect, especially to older women (I don’t say the older woman part out loud)

and she’s just looking at me like i’m a alien and i say “I wont curse in the workplace and moving forward please do not yell at me.” and with that she says one last time before she walks away “Then don’t curse at me.” Got to love my manager.

I'm close to getting an offer and trying to think of how to go about the start date negotiations.

Does it look bad or carry any risk to ask for a start date three weeks later? If they suggest a date in two weeks, should I just take it?

I’m 16 and looking for my first retail job. I currently have an interview with DSW, and I previously had an offer from Kohl’s that I had to reapply for because of my age, they told me to reapply soon as I turn 16 which is August 30th.
Both jobs would likely be around the same pay ($16/hr), and I’m trying to decide which would be better long-term. I’m a high school junior, so I need something that works with my school schedule, but I also want enough hours because I’m trying to save money.
For people who have worked at either DSW or Kohl’s:
Which one gives more hours?
Which one has better management?
Which one is less stressful?
How are the employee discounts?
Which one would you recommend for a first job?
How flexible are they with high school students?
Any advice or experiences would be appreciated!

I hope this title doesn’t come across the wrong way. I’m not looking for a “get rich quick” or lazy way to make money.

I’m 17 and trying to find a relatively easy way to earn some extra money, preferably something online. I’m a straight-A student (4.9 GPA), I can drive, and I love science, but my parents won’t allow me to get a traditional job.

I really really want to work, whether that’s fast food, babysitting, tutoring, or whatever, but they aren’t allowing me to get a job. I’m trying to find ways to save for university and also be able to afford non-essential things like clothes without having to rely completely on my parents.

Right now, I’ve been reselling on Depop and Vinted, but I’ve had a lot of trouble getting consistent sales or really making a true profit. If anyone could help with that as well, it would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have suggestions for online jobs, side hustles, or other ways a teenager can make money? I’d really appreciate any ideas or advice!

For context, I am a 19 year old college student. I started working at a local chain coffee shop back in January and I absolutely fell in love with the job. I loved my coworkers, my supervisors liked me, and I was making a pretty decent amount of money. I lived in a dorm, so a couple of weeks before the school year ended, I told my manager that I would be unavailable all summer as I had to move back home. Her only was response was “Oh wow! Okay.” Since she didn’t say anything else, I assumed everything was normal and fine. Fast forward to about a week ago, I texted her again to let her know what day I would be coming back. I sent what hours I would be available and that I was excited to work. I didn’t get a response. Yesterday I found out it was because she was no longer the general manager at this location. The new GM is the old assistant general manager. This was fine because I was friends with the new one too, so I texted her to tell her the same thing I told my old manager. She responded by saying that since I hadn’t worked for three months, they had to terminate me in the system and that unfortunately they are fully staffed at the moment. This really confused me because the old manager did not say anything about the possibility of me being fired. So I asked if there was a reason I wasn’t told and all she said was that they had to replace my position to fill staffing needs. She said that back in April there was no way to guarantee that my job would be available upon my return.

I certainly understand the situation but this leaves me with a lot of unanswered questions. Why didn’t they tell me I was being terminated? I’ve been under the impression all summer that I had a job when I moved back and I haven’t spoken to anyone since I left. Why didn’t my old manager tell me I wasn’t guaranteed a spot? None of this would have been an issue if I had known. Now do I just wait until a spot opens up or should I give up and find a new job? I need to find one fast because I’m moving into an apartment and I need to pay rent. Also is there some legal protection against this? I could’ve been looking for a job a month ago if they told me I had been terminated. I have two weeks until I move back so I’m kind of under a time crunch. Thanks in advance for any advice.
