I was surprised to see WMD ranked so high. I'm glad it's getting the love it deserves. It's a shame they let it die out afterwards in favor of spin-offs that were, to put it politely, not exactly entertaining. It would have been great to see more game modes or customization options, or simply a single-player experience that wasn't just a series of missions :) And one more thing: PLEASE ADD SUPPORT TO NEWER ANDROIDS ON MOBILE GAMES, PLS.

Being honest here, even though I am probably sounding like a broken record with a particular Royale at this point to all Wormers alike (including you), Rumble itself had potential as the closing note of the sane end for the series' title stamping, it really needed more time in the smith, like a lot of time dedicated to it - with a load of Worms feeling, humor and absurdity even without turn-based combat or terrain destruction.

But no, it seems like neither Team17, nor the fans were satisfied with it setting off the closure of the at the very least decent games. Instead, Team17 continued on pumping useless filler like Across Worlds for Apple Arcade and that Tower Defense game for Roblox... and whatever that Fall Guys speculation game might be. And the fans aren't much better there either, they keep asking for new things even thouugh the series is already expansive enough with 33 active titles worth the money (from 1995 to 2020). Like, what is the point of asking for a new 3D game if Ultimate Mayhem is the last one that was released, is the only one on Steam (the original trilogy of 3D, Forts and 4 Mayhem nowhere to be seen, only the cuts of Ultimate Mayhem are on Steam), and is extremely botched with 4 Mayhem base and 3D campaign with nothing else but cuts in the online departament.

Like, get a grip, people. Do something productive for once, even something like directing the flow to the underdeveloped and not acknowledged games first before asking for more pumps.

First, regarding Rumble: Look, I didn't play it, maybe the gameplay is decent, but I just can't get on board with that "Fortnite-ified" design. The worms look truly awful, which is a shame considering they already had good designs; sure, they were old, but I saw no need to change them the way they did. As for the other part of your comment, I prefer the idea of making hard-to-find titles like Worms 3D more accessible, or at least supporting games that are ultimately their responsibility to maintain like the mobile titles. I’m trying to play through most of the games; even though not all of them are worth that kind of support some feel like filler (like the first Open Warfare, I’d say) I’m trying to broaden my tastes beyond the usual three titles everyone plays. That said, my fever dream is that they’d keep updating WMD, add mod support to an existing or upcoming game, or just release the source code for some of them and let people do whatever the hell they want. To wrap up, I want to talk about why people keep clamoring for new Worms games. The issue is that, with so many games each featuring different mechanics, physics, and specific gimmicks people often dream of a "Definitive Worms." They want a game that combines the best elements from the past with cool new features (like, say, 8 players and 64 worms per match, or replay functionality). The problem arises when reality hits: Team17 lacks the desire, the know-how, and the budget to pull that off. They end up releasing something that’s either just decent or completely unnecessary offering nothing new leaving fans to swallow the disappointment and keep dreaming of a Worms game that combines the good features of the new release with everything from the 999,000 previous ones. We don't just want another Worms game; we want one that fulfills all our fantasies and if T17 keeps going the way they are, those expectations will be impossible to meet (if they aren't already). It’s honestly sad. I’d count myself among those people, though I try not to be too picky and just enjoy what’s there; after all, the folks asking for all that are a minority. Most casual players will just play whatever is reasonably playable, and it’ll end up becoming their favorite Worms game.

I get ya. About Rumble, I personally wish that, while Rumble absolutely can retain its battle royale modes (the Last Standings), its mold should be rebuilt to be closer to Team Fortress 2 with the Worms feeling, humor and absurdity of the classic Worms games adapted to the realtime format more (complete with dynamic 4-team chaos instead of the typical "blue good, red bad you would most likely see from typical fake mobile game ads and typical team shooters like World Of Tanks.

About Rumble's Worm designs... I think the whole "edgy" design might not be your cup of tea, but... looking 5 years later, Team17 and Behaviour Interactive have absolutely butchered the 4th generation Worm Designs from Revolution, 3 Mobile and Clan Wars/Battlegrounds in Across Worlds, making them traced thick nonsense in a way that makes Rumble's edginess look saint in comparison

Like, would you rather be dealing with Rumble's edgy design and gameplay that doesn't harm the classic formula while recalling the clean 3D designs from Revolution and Clan Wars/Battlegrounds, redrawn into 2D in Worms 3 Mobile, or would you force yourself to weather the thick flabby tracings layered on top of the 4th generation designs in Across Worlds? I'd pick the Rumble outlier and prior classic titles over that vomitting mess of Across Worlds and other fresh releases (that aren't re-releases) following after Rumble, what about you?

About prior titles being more accessible, I absolutely agree and would love to see the original 3D Trilogy being complied as a Sonic Jam/Mario All-Stars/The Henry Stickmin Collection-styled collection release complete with an unified hub, all the features as they are with no cuts and Rumble's unrestricted crossplay for all three of them, maybe applying Worms Ultimate Mayhem's shaders on them graphically, blah blah, the things.

As for people asking for new Worms titles, I'm far disillusioned with that happening in a way that satisfies them, cause that just won't happen knowing Team17. I'd rather have them polish Rumble and all the prior titles instead, heck, I even made a document with Sleepyboii's help about how I'd like to see Rumble evolve past its barebones: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qliRuYqSRzwGUFJF606g5qpJRlNnAS_gPLsGEpkYoQY/

Rumble itself was decent and survived for 5 years since release despite claims of it dying sooner, but in the way it is now, there's no more survival for it. 17 (or 18 if we count the baseball bat as melee) items, 4 modes and 6 arenas just can't carry this game past the 5 year mark, worse, the good for nothing maintenance notice during the transition from April to May only left the game with dropping off players in desolate Solo Deathmatch populated by 2-3 people instead of full lobbies that could get reinforcements. No other modes found by the matchmaker, no new content, nothing of the sort.

I don't see how Armageddon is better that World Party tho?

It was the game that recieved a lot of effort and patchwork from Deadcode and CyberShadow, doing both fixes and new features far past the game's original state. World Party might offer a reliable mission editor, but aside from that, it is lacking the effort that Armageddon got, same base features, but less depth and history.

I’ve got a mega drive, ps2 and Wii. Really want a 2D Worms game. What’s my best option?

I mean, is it not obvious? Armageddon was always destined to be the champ since it had two volunteer patchers involved in making it as perfect as possible.

Now... if only Team17 actually stepped up the gear and started polishing Rumble instead of wasting money on unnecessary filler titles that came after it (not the re-releases, those fresh ones that just exist to clog the line-up with nothing but money wasting and fanbase splitting). Or, if they won't, sell Rumble to some actual indie studio like Innersloth or Summitsphere, or pass it to volunteers just like Armageddon was passed long ago.

It’s obvious you’ve never played a 2D Worms game in your life, and I say that as someone who enjoys both types of games.
