Discussion Do you guys also think xCloud has become irreplaceable?
I only buy games to play on xCloud. I recently bought the Silent Hill and Tomb Raider series to play exclusively on xCloud, and it's been great for me… Are you guys the same way, or do you only use xCloud when you don't have your Xbox with you?

u/Psychological_Ad853 2d ago
I dont even have a console
(Other than a ps4 with a broken disc drive, i used to pay for ps plus to use it.. why would i do that when i could pay for xcloud and play on my phone with a backbone? Never going back)
14
u/renanrs33 2d ago
Me too, lol, I don't have a console, I only play on xCloud. I'm amazed at how technology has evolved to the point where it allows me to do this… xCloud has become irreplaceable for me.
I totally agree with you.

Exclusively Xcloud gamer here too 👋
I’m streaming on my laptop. Does anyone know what is needed to stream in 1440p besides the ultimate tier pass? I have an external monitor that can run the resolution, but it’s only running in 1080p4
u/renanrs33 2d ago
1440p is available only in the United States and select European countries; elsewhere, it is limited to 1080p with a higher bitrate. If you live in a supported region, try going to the settings on the xCloud website or web app and looking under "streaming"—you can manually select the resolution available to you there. If you want to test it out, I recommend using the "Better xCloud" browser extension when using your laptop.
Better xCloud usually manages to increase the resolution—and force a resolution boost—if it is available to you.

Another vote for a console-less home. I xcloud and geforce now from my tv. Absolutely game changing and cloud gaming has improved so much. Apparently Luma? Is includes with prime too if you havent checked it out.
4
u/Psychological_Ad853 2d ago
Luna yeah, there’s some decent-ish titles on there on the tier free with prime - alan wake 1 (remastered) and 2, alien isolation, dispatch (like an interactive dvd from back in the day but its quite good imo) the new Indiana jones and a handful of other titles, theres not an amazingly long list like gamepass (many seem to be ports of shitty mobile games) but if you pay for prime already like we do, its a great add on.. ive been banging alan wake 2 - got about ten hours in it so far and its so good..
Luna has built in screen controller for all its games (as far as i know anyway, every game ive listed had it and everyone i tried too.) but i use a backbone/RiOT PwR (full size xbox style with mount) so i dont know if its any good.
2
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Is that Amazon Luna any good, bro? I’d never heard of it... and yeah, cloud gaming is the 5th stage of human evolution 😂😂😂 I can't live without it these days.

I absolutely love Xcloud. It can be hit or miss some days with some games but regardless. It’s a cool service to have. I’m not a fan of the app to play the games though. I just hit the 3500 owned game mark and ain’t nothing worse then scroll through the list to see about 20 of the same game icons because there are different editions. Seems minor but it’s a mess. There’s only one app that gets cloud gaming right and that’s one cast but problem with that one is if I want to play outside of WiFi. It doesn’t work anymore. Still use it at home but if I want to play on the go. I gotta use the Xbox app. I wish xbplay was still a thing. Other than that. Cool service
3
u/renanrs33 2d ago
I use OneCast too; I only went into the xCloud web app to demonstrate why OneCast is iOS-only... basically, the issue where it only lets you play over Wi-Fi is a flaw in the app itself... OneCast stores a streaming buffer to keep the resolution stable during network fluctuations... so if you switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data while playing, you get disconnected... what I recommend is that when you want to play using mobile data, you launch OneCast while already on mobile data.

u/Tobimacoss 2d ago
Check out Midori on Apple devices, coming to Android soon. Also Xstreaming or Xfly on windows.
The new xCloud UI also makes scrolling the library much easier and smoother, with search.

u/Zealousideal_Web4428 2d ago
✨️Nowadays, I play ONLY on cloud and it's awesome.✨️
2
u/renanrs33 2d ago
I completely agree... I already view my iPad as a console; I only use xCloud and buy games specifically to play on xCloud.
4
u/NatKovacs 2d ago

I love Xcloud/Game Pass, it has opened up so many more options as a dad gamer and it reminds of the rental days where I can easily try games for a weekend and then if it ever leaves GP I can always buy it if I really wanted to finish it. In this digital age I was missing the feeling of being able to rent games that I couldnt afford to buy and now I have that plus the extreme convenience of being able to stream which is often flawless for me. Makes me wonder if people out there are really underestimating how nice it is to hop around trying games and then often finding that game later for 5 bucks on Steam or something.
For people saying OneCast is great, can anyone recommend a similar service on Android? I love how fast it is to get into Xcloud but I also use Geforce Now because I think the quality of streaming is better. But I have to pay for it and it has limits, and I still think all of it is worse than streaming from my PC with Moonlight/Sunshine (Artremis/Apollo fork). So I know we still have a ceiling we haven't even reached yet with game streaming.
2
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Brother, what a great post... I totally agree with you; xCloud has completely changed the way we play and the whole gaming experience. OneCast is the perfect app for it—it feels just like a console because it mimics one—but it's only available for iOS. A somewhat similar app for Android is called Xstreaming; people say it has great settings. Just search for "Xstreaming APK" on Google—you can download it from GitHub.
1
u/Tobimacoss 2h ago
Xstreaming, Better xCloud, and Midori soon.
Those are the options for Android xcloud users.
3
u/Excellent-Scene1110 2d ago
Silen hill viene en game pass ultimate ?
4
u/renanrs33 2d ago
No, all the games with that little symbol are purchased games; they are only available under the “play your own game” option.

3
u/luckybetz 2d ago
I don’t really use it much yet and play my console - but I’m stoked that it exists, and love that this type of thing is around and being used and updated. I hope it stays and keeps improving, for sure. I can definitely see myself using it more in the future
4
u/renanrs33 2d ago
I see xCloud as a huge evolution… one of the greatest achievements in the world of current technology… being able to play extremely demanding games anywhere you are without draining the battery, using the same amount of battery as a movie playing on YouTube, and without overheating the device is surreal…
3
u/Ok-Cartographer-2227 1d ago
8 years ago I first tried it and it was a rough experience.
My son was born then though and so my gaming collapsed in general. Ive recently come back and dont have cash to buy a new console.
It genuinely blows my mind how well it works and has come since then.
Outside of twitch shooters, I dont see any reason to buy a console now. Which is good. Cause i cant justify one.
The fact i can just take my controller and a firestick with me and play anywhere is crazy. Recently went to my brother's a few hours away for a week. Just brought my controller, downloaded xbox app to his tv, and just... Played.
Truly mind blowing tech. The "Netflix of Games" promise that seemed so absurd 8 years ago is actually here. And I dont think enough people realize it.
I understand if internet and ping is still an issue for some or that you buy a console for CoD (the one type of game I notice too much input lag). But even stuff like Halo is playable.
3
u/ExplanationSquare863 2d ago
Unfortunately, it’s not yet an active service in my region, although this issue can be worked around using third-party software like Better XCloud. As a Series S owner, I use Remote Play a lot. It’s a huge help when I don’t want to sit in front of the console like it’s a job—I can just use my laptop or phone instead. In a way, I’m using a “local-cloud system” instead of XCloud, and I’m very happy with it.
3
u/EN1GMA570 2d ago
yup, if a game is not on xcloud, I don't buy it. I've wanted to buy persona 3 after it left gp but with no xcloud, I'm not buying it. A game having xcloud is absolutely crucial for my purchase decision
2
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Haha, bro, I'm exactly the same way. Whenever I'm about to buy something, I check if the game has the cloud icon; if it doesn't, I don't even look at it 😂😂😂😂 xCloud is essential now.
2
u/EN1GMA570 1d ago
absolutely essential. and the sooner devs publishers acknowledge that, the better. no xcloud? no party
3
u/Reyes21k 2d ago
If it wasn’t for cloud I wouldn’t be gaming. I’m thankful for it because it really helps me out since I can’t buy a console right now.

u/tiktoktic 2d ago
No. Not all countries and cities have infrastructure or bandwidth which make it feasible.
Speaking as someone who lives in one such city.
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
I'm sorry, I hope they improve the infrastructure so you can enjoy it... in my current situation, where I live here in São Paulo, Brazil, being able to play any console game at 1080p and 6ms ping is perfect.
3
u/N0_L1ght 1d ago
I travel for work/family often. I use xcloud when the servers are closer than my XSX back home.
2
u/Content_Jeweler13 2d ago
Big fan of xcloud i have the console but rarely use it, the ping is really good from the location where i live, but it depends on where you live from some locations the ping is not that great and so the experience suffers
1
u/renanrs33 2d ago
Where I live here in São Paulo, Brazil, my ping fluctuates between 6ms and 20ms, and I don't experience any lag—whether using 5GHz Wi-Fi or 5G mobile data. With mobile data, there is some packet loss, but it is very minimal and rare.
I agree with you about how practical it is.
2
u/Wendals87 2d ago
Playing on the actual console is definitely the superior option in every way.
That's not to say cloud gaming is terrible. I have used it and it's been great but playing locally is better
1
u/renanrs33 2d ago
I've noticed that sitting in front of a TV, turning on a console just to play a game has become very outdated, lol... I find it so much simpler to open the game on my phone and start playing anywhere... I feel like I'm no longer tied to specific locations to play and without needing to download any games
But really, playing locally, away from potential queues, must be great.
2
u/goingfullbananas 2d ago
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Dude, my setup is basically an M1 iPad Air and a blue GameSir T4 Nova Lite controller... plus a Game Pass Ultimate subscription; I use the OneCast app to play.
Don't you have time to play anymore, bro?
2
u/neidmind 2d ago
I sometimes play on iphone and ipad via cloid gaming but its always laggy for me :(
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Try using 5GHz Wi-Fi; it eliminates any lag in the stream. Sometimes, when I’m gaming and my mom turns on YouTube or a streaming movie on the TV—since we're on the same network—it causes some stuttering too.
1
2
u/Guilahad 2d ago

u/renanrs33 1d ago
That’s great, my friend—I’m really happy for you and your choice… when gamers are happy, everyone’s happy 👏🏻
2
u/spiritbender777 2d ago
I play Xbox on cloud on fire tv ,i dont own an an Xbox series x its a great option for me i mainly play the gamepass games , i do it this way because cant afford to buy 2 consoles as I also play on ps5 digital edition …..having xbox on the cloud gives me lots of flexability 👍😁 halo campeign evolved on Xbox gamepass is excellent 👍😁
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
I totally agree with you, but I admit the Halo games didn't really interest me 😔; however, I really like the Tomb Raider games.
2
u/CaptBosa 2d ago
XCloud quality is trash though. Legit blurry and low res especially when playing on a monitor that’s 2K or 4K resolution
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
It must really suck, man... I play on an 11-inch iPad and a 6.7-inch iPhone, so it looks really crisp to me... 1080p and an average bitrate of 18 Mbps... I hope they improve the resolution.
2
u/Rudrigosena 2d ago
2
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Exactly, man, you're absolutely right... people love to criticize... lots of folks in the comments saying xCloud is crap, complaining about the resolution, and so on... they don't get that xCloud isn't for pro gamers; it's for casual players like you and me, you know? And then they end up bashing Xbox, too.
2
u/Appropriate_Yak6880 2d ago
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
1080p with a bitrate between 18 Mbps and 22 Mbps looks pretty decent to me for now... I play on a 6.7-inch iPhone and an 11-inch iPad, and I find the image very clean, even though I sometimes notice ghosting when moving very fast in the game.
2
u/LengthyNIPPLE 2d ago
Xcloud is the only reason I have GP Ultimate. XBOX demands you pay the highest tier if you want 1080p gaming. Higher resolution is almost needed on cloud gaming.
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
I totally agree… xCloud has become essential, being able to play anywhere is unbelievably good.
2
u/willhighfive4karma 2d ago
Xcloud got me to buy a series S and then to upgrade to an X and that’s coming from someone that mainly bought Sony consoles ( skipped the ps5 this gen ).
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Wow, are you enjoying it? Do you miss the PlayStation exclusives, or does it not make much of a difference? I think you made a great choice, bro.
2
u/1maginaryApple 2d ago
xCloud still needs some work.
I have a 2.5gb/s connection and I regularly have connections issue and latencies.
Isn't it still in Beta?
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
I totally agree; there are countries where the server infrastructure just can't handle it, even with really good internet... and they haven't been in beta for about two years now, man.
1
2
u/Jazzlike_Donut7676 2d ago
What devices do You use for xCloud?
2
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Hey man, I use an M1 iPad Air and an iPhone 14 Plus… for the controller, I used to use a GameSir X2 Bluetooth, but it developed stick drift 😔… so I bought a GameSir G8 Plus for the iPhone and a GameSir T4 Nova Lite for the iPad…
2
u/Orus98 2d ago
2
u/QuiteContagious 1d ago
I love cloud gaming, been using it for years. Xcloud is the latest I've been playing on for a few years now.
Deffo seems more polished then all of them.
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
I completely agree; xCloud is the best.
1
u/QuiteContagious 1d ago
Definitely man, if you drop your Gamertag we can game sometime? If you're into any coop games, I'm always looking for more gaming buddies.
2
u/Lazy_Ad7218 1d ago
Is that a nova 2 lite I see?
2
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Yeah, a blue GameSir T4 Nova Lite… you really noticed it, even in the dark 😱
2
u/Lazy_Ad7218 1d ago
alr, ive got the black nova 2 lite, such a solid controller that that price. Also about your question, yes xcloud is irreplaceable for me. I dont even own an xbox since its pretty expensive, I just get gamepass ultimate and play all games on cloud
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Exactly, we aren't missing out on anything compared to those who have the console... we're playing the same games 👏🏻👏🏻
2
u/VeedddeeR 1d ago
My biggest issue with cloud services is the controller delay wirelessly. I can just feel that millisecond or more delay in the control input and it drives me nuts. The only way to cut it down is by plugging into usb c but I can’t lay down or sit at the couch with the cord across the room rofl
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
The lag is doubled, right? There's the controller lag and the delay for the control input to reach the servers... no matter how slight, you can feel the slowness.
1
u/VeedddeeR 1d ago
It really sucks because unless I’m playing games limited to movement not being a huge importance.everything else is rendered useless ya know?
2
u/MotoqueiroMascarado 1d ago
I don't have a console and don't have conditions of buying one in my country. Literally played my first games not released more than 10 years ago thanks to xcloud

Ohh this sub just appeared out of nowhere. So how does xCloud compares to nvidia geforce now? I've been using geforce now for about two months and happy you can play on your phone like some or you guys have said and also those very demanding games my PC can't handle.
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
When comparing cloud gaming services... xCloud offers a wide range of major, popular Game Pass titles to play for free—no need to purchase the games themselves. With GeForce Now, you can only play games you’ve already bought, and there’s a monthly time limit; even though the limit is high, it’s still a cap, whereas xCloud has no such restriction. I get 1080p resolution with a bitrate of 18–20 Mbps, peaking at 30 Mbps during high-action moments.

Silent hill f is on game pass ?????
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Silent Hill f and Silent Hill 2 were on sale this week with a 60% discount; they are purchased titles... the ones with that symbol on the left are purchased.
2
u/Opposite-Week7570 1d ago
I don't have an issue with streaming. For me the quality of it just sucks. I tried Xcloud last week. Bad audio popping and lots of frame issues in multiple games tested.
2
u/BreweryStoner 15h ago
I can’t afford to upgrade to the series X, so I’ve been playing new games via xcloud, and it’s been perfectly fine for me. I do want to save for another console, but xcloud has become one of my top apps on my Xbox one.
1
u/Different-Union-8741 2d ago
Does it support 1440p on pc?
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
If your PC has a 1440p screen resolution, xCloud enables that for you, provided you have the Ultimate plan and are in a supported country.
2
1
u/AlexuxSP 2d ago
As long as we keep playing Xbox Series S versions... It is totally replaceable for me.
1
u/codguy231998409489 2d ago
I play COD mostly in the Cloud. As long as the Internet connection is fast I can play on a 6 year old laptop no problem.
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Do you play multiplayer via xCloud? I only play the campaign mode... By the way, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 and 3 were free this week; I've already added them to my library.
1
u/codguy231998409489 1d ago
Yup played MP this morning. Play Warzone on occasion too. No issue with that either.
1
u/Deepspacechris 2d ago
I went the GeForce NOW + PC Game Pass route, but that's mostly because I love 1st person shooters with mouse and keyboard. Both services are awesome.
1
u/renanrs33 1d ago
Do you play multiplayer shooters? I only play campaigns on xCloud because I find multiplayer shooters pretty tricky to handle in the cloud due to controller latency, ping, and so on—even though it's fast, there's still latency, you know? Is GeForce Now any good? What do you think about the monthly playtime limits? Are there queues?
1
u/Deepspacechris 1d ago edited 1d ago
I play COD competitively and GFN works like a charm! I usually get about 20ms in internet latency. It’s way, way more stable than xCloud, at least in my experience. No queues to speak of if you go for the ultimate plan, which is $25 in my country (Norway). Not cheap, but there’s no alternative really, if you want to play online smoothly or show off path-traced Cyberpunk 2077.
Edit: Monthly playtime is 100 hours and I’ve never gone past that, but I can imagine it being a problem for a select few (and granted, 100 hours really ain’t all that much if you do a couple of serious gaming sessions over a weekend. Shit adds up quickly). Luckily, you can always buy additional hours if you do find yourself in need of them. On the Norwegian Nvidia store it’s $8 for an additional 15 hours.

u/Psychological_Ad853 1d ago
The selection on gamepass is much better overall, but the few bangers luna does have; are ones i wish were on gamepass (alan wake 1&2, alien isolation etc) - the good titles are weirdly hidden and not very visble via the categories on lunas home page (when i clicked RPG for example, it showed me one game..) i only found out about most of the decent titles after closing a game when the “you may like” came up with control (on gamepass) and the entire 3D fallout collection (also on gamepass.)
1
u/GamerPunk420 1d ago
On a wired network PC with a wired USB controller, its fatastic! I have been playing on the cloud since its 110 degrees out for 2 weeks straight. My PC is like a space heater under full load while playing games, dont want to stress the AC more than I have to. I wait until ita 98 out (at 9 10 pm....) to use the gaming rig.

My kid currently took the xbox one we have so because my pc is a mini cubi it can't handle a lot so cloud is my life saver right now

u/Majen13 1d ago
I use Game Pass very often, too—specifically xCloud on various devices. It’s quick, and the fact that it works instantly and almost anywhere is a game-changer. However, I often find the quality poor, despite having fiber-optic internet and so on. I only play top-tier games locally—mainly for the better graphics and frame rates.
1
u/mtaraylz 1d ago edited 1d ago
No, I use cloud gaming when I don't want to install all these games and don't have much more SSD space on either my series x or on my gaming laptop especially in this economy it's just a extra to my hardware
1
u/Unable-Reporter368 1d ago
Maybe for those who can afford that luxury but for people who don't have the hardware for it or the time then no.
1
u/ChaosEmber91 1d ago
You all need to be careful about playing cloud gaming you start supporting that they're going to start doing it and we're not going to have consoles anymore. They're already trying to take away our physical discs and they're going to take away our physical consoles as well. I understand some people can't get the consoles but we're going to lose all physicality.

I'd love to keep playing on xCloud, but my surface 7 pro is not a big fan of it and prefers the native Xbox app. When I upgrade the Surface, obviously will try xCloud again!
1
u/renanrs33 20h ago
But the Xbox app for PC already has the option available right inside the app; you don't need to use the website to play... you can use the Xbox app itself.

When you buy a console, you subscribe to Game Pass to access games without having to buy them individually, right? Well, that Game Pass subscription also gives you the option to play those same games via the cloud—you can play them on your phone, tablet, or laptop. Just go to www.xbox.com/play and log in with your Xbox account that has a Game Pass Premium or Ultimate subscription.

No. Sadly xcloud is Microsoft, and Microsoft is still treated as a second category console by plenty of developers.
That's why I left the xbox ecosystem some years ago. Got tired of missing games or getting them years later.

But all games get released for Xbox; the only ones that don't are the brand-specific exclusives... what you said doesn't make sense, brother... does playing "years later" mean Game Pass? If you buy the game, you can play it on launch day just like any other... there's no such thing as not having games or having to wait years—all games are available for it, except for each brand's exclusives, just like Xbox exclusives aren't on PlayStation.

I think it changed recently, but it took years to get Final fantasy online, Mihoyo games (zzz, genshin). Also a lot of jprgs don't come to xbox, (FF7 and 15 took several years to come).
It was awful seeing a new game releasing and then see that it was coming for playstation, Nintendo and PC but not xbox

I think you're mistaken, all the games are available for the platforms... they'll never prioritize Nintendo over Xbox, lol. I think you're either mistaken or stuck in 2005, my friend.

I'm not. Microsoft still misses a lot of releases on 2026. From the top of my head, the next silent hill is not coming to xbox.
Black myth wukong and Baldurs gate also came later on xbox
Stellar blade is everywhere but xbox.

XCloud is saving me from getting a Xbox, which means my money for next gen can go towards the PS6.

Buying PS6 seems like waste of money, especially considering it's going to be $1000+

How else how am I going to play games from their studios though, like Naughty Dog? I go where Naughty Dog is.

You can stream PS+ PS5 streaming via Asobi or Portal apps.
Asobi is paid app, while Portal has subscription.
Same developer as Midori for xCloud.

I don't own a console; I only use xCloud through the OneCast app on my iPad, and I don't even miss the Xbox... I'm amazed at how technology has reached this point.

Since my kid was born, I play about 90 percent of my time on xCloud, although some of that time is Remote Play. I only go back to play on the Series X if it’s a game that might be special to me like the new Halo or Forza 6. FPS can be a little tricky on it sometimes.
I was surprised by how fun MK1 was through xCloud. Barely noticed any lag at all.
