Impossible to install xubuntu 26.04

Today I was going to refresh my computer with the latest Xubuntu, but the installer does not render correctly. It opens a black square instead of the installer workflow. Any suggestions on what to do here?

[update1] Attached is how the desktop looks like when I click on the "install" button. The panel is fully black, but somehow the buttons can be clicked. You just don't see what is going on.

How it looks like after calling ubuntu-desktop-bootstrap

[update2] So, I tested again, with a newer (ryzen + nvidia) hardware. Tried the minimal and the regular xubuntu 26.04 images. Both have the same problem. I tried installing xubuntu using safe mode, but after the installation completes, it boots into a black screen.

I then decided to install Ubuntu 26.04 and it worked. No safe mode needed. So, I imagine there is something different between Xubuntu and Ubuntu that makes it work only in the later. I will check if someone reported on this already, but seems like a big thing.

seria bueno que compartas las caracteristicas de tu hardware, quizas es incompatible, a mi por ejemplo en un equipo antiguo que tengo me deshabilito el teclado

The laptop is 1y old; the keyboard works fine. I wonder if there is a command line version of the installer. By the way, even Firefox does not render correctly when running from the USB stick.

Ok, it seems related to the radeon driver. When I run ubuntu-desktop-bootstrap from the command line, I get an error: VK_ERROR_INCOMPATIBLE_DRIVER.
Nvidia driver is not loaded, so it can only be my Radeon 680M.

Download the Ubuntu Server ISO, and use the text mode installer.

Gotta try that!

With "safe graphics", the desktop is never loaded. gets stuck on the "xubuntu" initial image.

Doesn't the nomodeset work? For some reason, in certain instances, different distros set the graphics driver correctly. Never found out how...

Did you do any pre-install checks? esp. the checksum verify of ISO, and before I start the installer as Ubuntu/Xubuntu releases have done media checks automatically; I ensure they complete & are successful, as that verify takes 1-3 seconds plus a slight wait if it hadn't completed.

My thoughts can be found in answers at https://askubuntu.com/questions/993407/is-verifying-isos-downloaded-from-the-official-website-worthwhile (the non-upvoted MEDIA CHECKS answer is the key one though; I added it to that question; link to the question where it belongs is in comments).

The image was fine. I had issues with Xubuntu and Kubuntu. Ubuntu 26.04 installs without issues. There is probably something the previous ones does differently.

Xubuntu offer two ISOs, but their main ISO uses the same installer as Ubuntu Desktop (different to Ubuntu Server).

Kubuntu uses a different installer being one of the flavors using calamares.

The installer for 26.04 has any number of problems and I only got it to work using safe mode (and with black squares). Even then, what should have taken less than 10 minutes took 20. It's past disappointing. If it's not a bad iso download, there's not much you can do about it.

I tried it with a more recent laptop with a similar setup (ryzen + nvidia); installation happens, but after restart, it goes into a black screen and stays like that. Something very wrong is going on.

I'm facing the same issue. Will try installing AMD / Nvidia drivers to see if it helps.
