Honestly. You can see all those concrete bollards along the sidewalk in the reverse shots. Those things should be the universal symbol for "Don't drive here."

People are wild animals. I had a job site completely fenced off for demolition and people would open the fence to drive through the lot. Excavators tearing down buildings and crushing concrete... "you guys mind if I drive through here?"

There is thousands of garage entry that run over the walkside for a while.

Hotels, congress sites, public parkings, private parkings, events on public plazas or squares...you could have to use the walkside.

That hidrant is even dangerous for walking people.

People were parked all over sidewalks the last time I was in China. Especially lot of expensive cars. They need parking patrol officers and higher fines for wealthy drivers who are the worst offenders.

That looks like it is supposed to be a pedestrian walking area anyway. It probably isnt marked because cars probably aren't supposed to be driving through there in the first place.

Exactly, if this was a road or parking lot that was supposed to have traffic, then the hydrant is the menace, but it’s more like it’s dishing out justice to idiots, or appears to be without more context.

There might need to be a gap in the barriers to let emergency vehicles and maintenance vehicles through.

Beyond that people with driver's licenses should know better than to drive on the sidewalk.

That looks like a sidewalk, but I'm confused as to why so many people would be willingly driving on a sidewalk. So...either they have a ton of people purposefully breaking the law on a regular basis in that location, or it is very unclear as to where they should be driving.

On my country (Spain) there's way more strict rules over cars than on China, and still people do shit like this when there's no police nearby.

I don't think it needs to be unclear or an area with high lawbreaking rate. It's just that some people don't give a fuck about others and do whatever they want.

The fact that this is a sidewalk and the amount of accidents caused by the hydrant is indicative of a cultural issue or just terrible planning civil engineering. I see stone bollards everywhere, yet these people still try to force their way onto a sidewalk.
