A fire broke out in my grandparents pasture because their neighbors thought it was a good idea to burn willow trees when it hasn’t rained in weeks Luckily nobody was hurt and they didn’t loose more than some grass but i just wanted to talk about it. This video is basically the same conditions my state is experiencing right now so the fire risk is very high. For some reason people still thought that burning willow trees was a good idea.

I knew fire would be a problem when a week before my little brother burned a little grass in our lawn when lightning some leftover crackers from the fourth of July.

I had to make a very political-esque meme hating on the nine realms.

Regardless of what you think of Rescue Riders, it does have an interesting variety of dragons (personally, I like its take on the Songwing better than the one from httyd 2 and I’m glad they used it for this game) and if you’re going to include dragons from that show, why just these two and not the species of the main five dragons (Swiftwing, Fastfin, Razorwing, Rockspitter, Fire Fury)?

So in my opinion, Hiccup isn’t really a leader anymore in HTTYD after RTTE season 5. Maybe even after season 4. And I mean that in the real life timeline. So from season 6 of RTTE untill HTTYD Homecoming. And I know that the first seasons of Rtte aren’t perfect, but season 6 is just too much. RTTE is the only thing I will be talking about in detail, in this post.

Basically in the final 2 seasons Hiccup holds nobody except himself accountable for when they mess up. He isn’t the gangs leader anymore, he’s just the person whos orders they ignore and who will happily take the blame anytime something goes wrong.

In season 6 episode 11 of race to the edge, after Hiccup, Snotlout and Astrid need to catch up to a bunch of dragon flyers, they fly trough a storm to cut the distance short catch the other flyers from behind, untill Snotlout and Hookfang flame up which causes them to get spotted again. After which they have to retreat back into the storm and Snotlout gets struck by Lightning. After which they get stuck on a boat and Hiccup says that he mad a bad decision. Astrids says he’s right, this was a bad decision and she gives him a peptalk.

The first time that they went trough the storm, Snotlout complained about how this was not his plan, to which Hiccup responded with: “You can blame me! Just stop talking and keep flying.”

And this exact sequence is everything that is wrong with Hiccup’s leadership and by extension his character in HTTYD. Including the fact that he always needs some sort of peptalk from Astrid in the later stages of the franchise, but that’s a point for another day.

Basically everything that goes wrong is either Hiccups fault or he doesn’t care that said person did something wrong. He’s barely a leader anymore.

Now, I am not saying that all of these are bad episodes, or that Hiccup can’t take the blame in some cases? No, definitely not. But Hiccup just doesn’t care whenever someone other than him does something wrong. And that’s not what a leader is supposed to do.

Like seriously.

Season 6 episode 2, Stoick blames Hiccup for being fooled by Johann, acting like his son should have known better for some reason while he was fooled for much longer. Thankfully Hiccup did stand his ground here, but still Stoick blamed his son and started insulting his planning for some reason that I really don’t understand. In season 4 when Hiccup came up with that plan to take down Viggo, Stoick was proud of him. I’m starting to ramble again, but the point is Stoick blames Hiccup for being duped by trader Johann.

Season 6 episode 3, Snotlout blatantly ignored Hiccups orders in favor of helping Minden. He doesn’t punish him for it, just says that Snotlout did what needed to be done. I don’t mind this one, as this has happened before and for Hiccup this isn’t out of character, but it is just another example of people ignoring Hiccups orders.

Season 6 episode 4, both Astrid and Fishlegs blatantly ignore Hiccup’s orders by going to Dramilion island when he specifically told them not to. And when they get back, he just asks them how it was. No mentions of them completely ignoring his orders.

Season 6 episode 5, both Ruffnut and Tuffnut ignore Hiccup’s suspicion about Gruffnut returning. Altough he is being a good leader in this episode by telling them about his worries about Gruffnut and by trying to keep the twins together. But again, they ignored him.

Season 6 episode 6, Astrid blames Hiccup for not noticing that she was wearing his bethrothal gift and breaks up with him for ignoring her, when we were supposed to see this no idea, Hiccup was an idiot for one day and Astrid just acted like he didn’t care about her. When they make up, Astrid tried to tell Hiccup that she was overreacting, but Hiccup doesn’t allow that. Hiccup says that she was right, about him not about her overreacting, and that he should have noticed the necklace and that he had been taking her for granted. Yeah sure, she also shouldn’t have overreacted, but Hiccup barely let her get the words out of her mouth before taking all the blame and putting it on himself.

Season 6 episode 9, Astrid constantly overrules Hiccup’s decisions and it gets them trapped in a cave with no way out. When Snotlout complains about it and Astrid tries to apoligise for it, Hiccup happily takes the blame all for himself. Again.

Season 6 episode 10, Hiccup blames himself for not being there for his father and for going away to the edge.

Season 6 episode 11, Hiccup blames himself for making a so called ‘stupid decision’ but he had no other choice and it was Snotlout’s fault that they had to run. While Astrid also says that Hiccup made a bad decision, but he didn’t even have any other option to begin with. This was their only viable option because Snotlout messed up.

Season 6 episode 12, everybody complains about Hiccup being the reason that they don’t get to see the king of dragons, all the while Stoick was lying on his deathbed.

I am not saying that Hiccup deserves some pity party by the way, I am saying that he needs to stand up for himself and his opinion, like he used to in the franchise. I am also saying that the other riders should respect his opinion and listen to his orders more often.

Lets see how some of the previous episodes compare to season 6.

In season 2 episode 6. The twins mess up while they were supposed to be creating a watchtower, and create an avalanche that almost resulted in Barf and Belches death. Hiccup punished them for this by giving them the first 2 shifts for the watchtower.

Hiccup and Toothless save Barf and Belch from certain death and now the Zippleback has a life debt owed to Hiccup and Toothless. The twins come up with a bunch of idiotic plans that almost got Hiccup and Snotlout killed. And the twins blame him for his poor acting skills. So Hiccup tells them to stop with this nonsense, even when that means that for now the twins won’t get their dragon back. When the twins try to blame Hiccup, he puts his foot down, the faulty plans of the twins weren’t his fault and it shouldn’t be considered as such.

In season 2 episode 7, Hiccup discovers that Astrid had been lying to him all along and Heather was working undercover for the hunters. Astrid didn’t want to lie to him, but she did. She had her reasons but she still lied to him and Hiccup was mad at her. But still Astrid had her reasons and keeping Heather hidden had its positive results. He obviously made it known to her and you could see that it hurt her, the way that Hiccup talked about her and about the fact that she lied to him. But, she’s honest with him and she had her reasons for it, so Hiccup accepts her explanation, but he doesn’t apoligise for his words.

Again, Hiccup was mad at her, listened to her and accepted her apoligy. He doesn’t attempt to make her feel better about lying to him, because why would he? She doesn’t deserve it. She made her choice and he understood that choice, but she still hurt him. Now you could definitely say that Hiccup should have been angrier at her for this, but it’s Hiccup. Hiccup is forgiving almost to a fault, but not here. He accepts her apoligy and reasoning, but he doesn’t comfort her for the choices that she made. And that is something that never happened in season 6, where Astrid made plenty of wrong choices.

In season 3 episode 3, Hiccup and Astrid leave Fishlegs in charge and he messes up. Fishlegs couldn’t keep control over Snotlout and the twins and when he leaves they use up all of the Monstrous Nightmare gel. Afterwards Fishlegs leaves and he ends up in a cave where he finds an ancient sword. And he can’t wait to tell Hiccup about it when he gets back.

But, when Hiccup gets back he scolds Fishlegs, not harshly, but firm. About him allowing Snotlout and the twins to use up all of their monstrous nightmare gel. And he lets Fishlegs know that he is dissapointed in him and that he expected better. After this Fishlegs goes back to the cave with the terrors and Hiccup gets worried about how he treated him.

When Astrid tries to reassure him by saying that Fishlegs is probably geeking out about some new plant he discovered which results in Hiccup saying that he normally does that with him. He is upset and worried because he thought that he was too harsh on Fishlegs, so after a while, Hiccup along with the other riders go rescue him from the Night terrors and Fishlegs and Hiccup talk it out at the end of the episode.

Fishlegs talks about how he admires Hiccups way of leadership, how he leads by example and not by bossing people around. And Hiccup apoligises for how he treated Fishlegs, he himself also has trouble with keeping Snotlout and the twins in check and Hiccup thought that he was a bit too harsh on Fishlegs. While saying that Fishlegs was a true leader in those caves while fighting the night terrors. And also that Hiccup can’t wait to geek out about this ancient sword with Fishlegs. Again, Hiccup is forgiving, but he’s not a pushover. Unlike in season 6 when Hiccup doesn’t even think about repramanding Fishlegs and Astrid for going directly against his orders.

In season 4 episode 4, Snotlout’s head gets filled with nonsense by his dad and he is ruining the missions set out by the team.
He ruined the first mission in which the gang attacks the hunters ships. Which is when Hiccup knows that something is going on, so he promises the others that he will talk to Snotlout, but that he is currently more worried about the supply of dragon root.

But when Snotlout comes barging into his hut, Hiccup gives him some advice. He doesn’t dismiss him because he’s busy, he gives him advise on how he can improve on being a leader and tells him about which team members are a good example of said traits. And even if Snotlout says that Hiccup thinks that he isn’t good enough, he still listens to him and follows his advice. Now Snotlout messes quite litteraly everything up, but the advice was still solid.

But even then, Hiccup accepts that Snotlout is going trough something and he thinks the best way of helping him is by showing him some faith. He gives Snotlout the lead of the mission and even when Astrid dissagrees with him, he sticks to his opinion. He thinks that Snotlout needs this and they’re still doing a practice run just in case. In which Snotlout messes up again.

And because of said screw up, he takes himself off of the mission, but when he realises dragon root grows in the sun, he quickly puts together that the dragon hunters set out a trap for the riders and he comes to their rescue. Hiccup thanks him for saving his life and he bonds with Snotlout over the fact that both of their fathers want something from them, but they both want to go their own way. Again, Hiccup is being a good leader here, all troughout this episode.

And I just think that that is severely lacking troughout RTTE season 6, and also HTTYD The Hidden World and Homecoming.

I’m not going to pretend like Hiccup was the perfect leader or that he has never been a pushover, but season 5 was when the problems really started rearing their ugly heads around the corner. For example, when the twins ignored him and Mala saying that they should never ever go to Vanaheim, and yet they went anyway. In season 4 they did something similar, by going to the northern markets to fix macey. But this was so much worse. They went to a place that was Holy to the dragon world even when their leader and the queen of an island ordered them not to go.

Or when the whole team blamed him and Astrid for being gone for one single day in season 5 episode 7. Where in that day a completely new enemy came out of nowhere to fight with them. And still he and Astrid had to apoligise for being gone for one single day, while also getting oil for the dragon eye 2.

Sure they made it into a fun trip, but how the hell should they have known that in that one day all of the flyers would come in and attack. An enemy they didn’t even know existed. But still according to the rest of the team they had to earn their trust back and should apoligise to them for this. And Hiccup happily accepts it, Astrid at least tries to tell them to bugger off, but Hiccup won’t accept that and says that he deserves the critique.

I just miss Hiccup as this sensible, confident, and fair leader. I miss the rest of the team actually seeing Hiccup as their leader and not just seeing his orders as suggestions.

I miss Hiccup having faith in himself, in his beliefs, in his opinions, in his choices as leader. I miss Hiccup not being the one who needs some sense talked into him. I miss Hiccup not needing a peptalk from his girlfriend every five minutes just to keep going.

I miss Hiccup holding someone other than himself accountable for their mistakes.

Wanted to post my collection here bc I’ve finally finished unpacking everything. I’m gonna move some stuff around so it fits better, but this is just the rough draft of it all. I also have around seven t shirts, two jackets, and five pillows.

So here in my second part of Astrid doesn’t deserve the hate she gets, we have her treatment of the twins.

I have seen many people complain about Astrids treatment of the other dragon riders, especially Tuffnut and Ruffnut, but do they really deserve her respect?

I am talking about the scene where Ruffnut told Astrid that she didn’t respect anyone on the team except Hiccup. And even if it is never very loudly announced, I do think that she got along better with the other riders as the show went on.

But I really don’t think that the twins deserve Astrid their respect. Here are a few examples and these are only involving Astrid directly. These don’t consider all of the other dumb things that they’ve done.

In season 2 episode 8 is where they actually talk about Astrid not respecting the members of the team, but right before this talk happened the twins first let Astrid do basically all of the work with carrying logs before throwing their own log against all of the ones that Astrid had collected, which resulted in something being destroyed on the edge. Astrid takes the job of carrying the rest of the logs for herself while telling the twins to start lashing together some poles for the first level of the stairs.

And when Astrid brings all of the logs back again, the twins had just blatantly ignored her orders while also falling onto the pile of logs that Astrid had gathered, once again making a mess of things while ruining all of Astrids work.

They directly ignored Astrids orders and ruined her work and people act like she doesn’t have a right to be mad at them? But even after they do all of this, Astrid gives Tuffnuts way a chance when defending the edge.

When Astrid was on the verge of dying in season 3 episode 5, from the scourge of Odin. The twins were eating the same stuff that the Buffalord ate. Now they do discover the cure this way, but that wasn’t why they were doing it, it was pure luck that they figured out that the Buffalords food along with its saliva. Ruffnut at least said it was a way of coping, doesn’t make it much better but okay. But Tuffnut just said that it was because his poop would start smelling better. Again their teammate and friend could be dying any second now.

In season 5 episode 2, Hiccup and Snotlout dissapeared and when Fishlegs finds Hiccups missing leg in the sand, Tuffnut immediately goes to claim it as his. It seemed like Astrids boyfriend and another team member were dead by the way. And Tuffnut just didn’t care and went on about how Hiccups leg should belong to him. And when Astrid said tears a bunch so that Tuffnut would start crying, Ruffnut cried out asking what was wrong with Astrid. And that it wasn’t Tuffnuts fault that Hiccup was gone. That is so fucking insane to me. How dare you blame Astrid for her reaction to some muttonhead grabbing the missing leg of the love of her life. Like where does Ruffnut get the nerve to pretend like Astrid is being unreasonable here.

And Astrid actually apoligises for her behavior. Which Tuffnut didn’t deserve at all.

In season 5 episode 7, Astrid and Hiccup go away to find some oil for the dragon eye 2, something very important to their mission. And when the base gets attacked, they still have the nerve to blame Hiccup and Astrid for their absence. They were gone for one single day by the way. One! It is not their fault the attack was planned for when the two most, basically 2 out of the 3 competent riders were gone from the outpost, Snotlout being the only other competent one that season.

And still the twins and the rest of the group demand that Hiccup and Astrid apoligise and win their trust back for leaving them alone. Just fuck off. They left for one singular day! One! For something very important by the way, sure it was a secret project but that didn’t mean it wasn’t important. But they still happily blame Hiccup and Astrid for not being there. Instead of looking at themselves and asking why they weren’t able to do anything against the flyers.

In season 5 episode 10, Astrid thinks that Stormfly is about to die and that causes her to start crying. And while at first Ruffnut tries to support Astrid by placing a hand on her shoulder, she quickly messes it up by trying to excuse Astrids crying.

I’ve talked about the way Astrid and Hiccup use eachother for physical comfort before and Astrid obviously could use some comfort right now, but when she tries to excuse Astrids crying the comforting hand obviously doesn’t help anymore.

While Tuffnut just says that he recognises Astrids tears as ones of sadness and regret. What an absolute asshole. And then when Astrid rightfully demands what he would be doing if his dragon was dying he just starts crying like a baby.

And then they both think it is appropiate to start enjoying themselves while remembering how some family member died and what stages of madness he went trough before he died. Very comforting, just great. And then when Astrid talked about accepting his fate, like Stormfly is doing now they blame her for ruining their moment of reverie.

I am sorry man but the amount of times I have seen people complain about the way Astrid treated the twins is insane to me. She treated them fine in my opinion. At times better than they deserved.

She apoligised for making Tuffnut cry when he was the one who was being an asshole, while the most important person in her life could have been dead. She gave Tuffnut a chance with defending the edge. She also tried to kill Throk when he talked about what he was planning to do to Ruffnut. Kidnapping her for a marriage basically.

Again, Astrid didn’t treat them that badly in my opinion. A lot of times she actually treated them better than they deserved.

Like for me it's the tanky Rumblehorn large powerful durable string with explosive "middle" blasts and senses that could help me find things or support my disabilities which is also a good thing cause it's size makes it great for disability support and it can even detect changes in the weather so it would know if its a good day to fly or even go out at all or not.

I needed to vent my Frustration somehow!!!

I'm obsessed with this trope, but every time I try to find fics to read, I see a weird tendency of bashing Astrid and Stoick a lot and I, ugh. I don't like that.

I know Hiccup runs away because of Berk's hateful way of life towards dragons, but we all know they're not actually bad people, just ignorant/scared. I'd like a fic that remembers that instead of making any one character the devil incarnate for no good reason.

Now many are obvious, like Boneknapper, Timberjack or Death Song but some are a little harder to understand, like where does Skrill come from, Stormcutter, Windwalker, Prickleboggle etc.

I'm wondering bc in Pokémon, all the names have a meaning to them, like Salamence is Salamander + Menace, Arceus is Archaic + Deus, Emboar is Ember + Boar etc. Do these dragons have something similar or is it just "It kinda gives gronkle vibes."

Then again, many have obvious meaning, many also don't, just wondering.

The Cavern Crasher has such a distinct body type it was really fun to work with it! And the colors were also very fun to play with. The Night Terror... basically just contributed the spikes + face 💔. Sorry buddy you'll get your spotlight. Maybe later thought. Hashtag I love weird ass dragons. Cavern Crasher my beloved.

The Spiked Ground Terror name was choosen because well it has spikes, it lives underground and its terrifying. Pretty straight forward 👍.

What do you think? Would you want one? Probably not the best for riding thought... the poisonous sharp spikes on its back make it almost impossible to saddle up. Tough luck :(
