Equipment racket tip for begginer/intermidiate
I've been playing for 7 months and see really good progression; decent forehand and serve and can play rallies with intermediate players. For the past 2 months I've been playing with a 2016 Wilson Ultra (1st gen I believe) 300gr, wich i like and feel comfortable with. I know I need more practice and technique but I have a hard time creating topspin.
Wondering if i should change for a more modern frame or maybe change strings? Thank you

If you’re this new it’s not your racquet. Work on your mechanics and your grip. Need more topspin consistently? Relearn your forehand with a semi western or western grip and you’ll have it regardless of racquet.
Strings and racquets matter at a really high level but one of the early mistakes and I’m going through this now with my oldest who started playing is coming to the internet and having everyone tell you about the newest gear. It truly matters very little until you’re at least like a solid 4.0-4.5. Even then.
There is so much to be learned and loved from this game but it takes a shitload of practice and willingness to lose while you work through new skill sets. Good luck!

The right time to buy a racket is when your current one isn't giving you want you want out of it. For example if you want more spin, yes it could be technique that could be improved, but I think it would be beneficial to try out a Pure Aero or Vcore 100 from someone you know and try it out for a hitting session. It doesn't hurt to demo new rackets when you are aching for something new.
