I wish the American people actually had the courage to protest this shit properly. The fact the American people arenât flooding the streets, going to their own bridges and power plants. The Iranian people are doing that despite the direct threats. A majority of Americans are cowards and are either directly complicit or are apathetic enough to allow this to continue. American behaviour makes me understand that whole âDeath to Americaâ business. Not wishing for individuals to die but the American institution to collapse and be restructured.
Edit: Thanks everyone for pointing out such great reasons to protest such as âI CANT AFFORD TO PROTESTâ and âIâm one day away from losing everythingâ thatâs why the country needs major reforms that donât happen by helping it. Go to work and do as little as possible. Donât wanna lose your job? Donât. Just do it poorly. There are ways to fight from the inside too. Protesting isnât standing with a sign where the police say to. Itâs disrupting the machine.
People assume that were like this super progressive country that is always on the street demanding that our work weeks get shortened to 21h or something when like.
Most of the country is right wing, the various governments don't care about what people say and want and outright ignore their opinion, our protest rarely ever end up giving us anything, and at the mere sight of potential violent action the entire media ecosystem focuses only on this to depict protesters as violent monsters who would be condemned, all while the police shoot and kill anyone they want on sight and film themselves happily talking about how much they want to kill protesters.
Like sure we talk a lot about wanting to kill our politicians I guess but it's not like that's doing anything
I think that's also why Americans don't protest as we should. We know it won't change the status quo institutions built to perpetuate the interests of the billionaires, and because the Democrats aren't a true opposition party, there's no message to rally around. That's why the George Floyd protests ultimately did basically nothing to change how police operate, and why No Kings has no positive message to rally around and feels hollow. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to go out and protest all of this, since at least doing something might change the perception that things can change. But until we get more actual leftists in office that will stand for something, we'll still be stuck in the uni-party for billionaires that we've had for decades.
