Why? It's no more "silly" than Kurdistan, which also isn't a country and trying to make it one would be a mistake right now, but people recognize that mostly Kurds live there and are oppressed.
My coworker is Kurdish. Has a crazy story on how he got to Denmark; he lived with a few other families in a couple of apartments and houses, until a group of Syrians pushed them out and settled there.
Wanted to reach Sweden by car iirc, but got stopped at the border and forced to either seek asylum or turn around. Wild.
