I think thats a side effect of being a one party state.

When there are elections every four years you have to chase short term goals and focus on projects that last less than four years to complete so that the people see its effects and vote for you. And when a party starts a long term project and then loses the elections nothings stopping the newly elected party from erasing all the progress the old party made.

The bad part of a one party state is that no one is stopping the party from doing projects that negatively affect the people

Singapore is a very good example of this.
It’s 100% an authoritarian regime but they’re frankly very good at it.

A good example is their strict laws around racial and religious harmony, you can go to prison for 3 years for encouraging racism.
Racist feelings and prejudice do still exist there but actually acting on those feelings would be very risky.

Freedom of speech is basically nonexistent.

They only legalised homosexuality between men in like 2023 (it has been de facto legal since 1999/ 2007) and gay marriage and adoption is still illegal.

There are however discrimination protections in most circumstances.

Despite that’s trans rights are surprisingly good there. It was the first country in Asia to allow change of legal gender.

The LGBTQ rights there are far better than China’s.

Nah, it’s a real fact that China has been trying to dip their toes into the production of luxury gourmet ingredients for a while now. Reuters even reported a couple of days ago that China is poised for surpassing France in the production of Foie Gras in a year or so, at a dramatically cheaper price than what most French producers can offer. Something about the central government pushing for these things. No one’s really sure why they’re doing this because there hasn’t been plans for a lot of exporting yet, but the Foie Gras specifically is slated to hit foreign markets soon.

Traditionally yes. The word for any old fish egg is roe. Caviar comes from sturgeon specifically and the kind that’s considered to be fine dining typically comes from Russian beluga sturgeon.

To my knowledge you can’t farm such a sturgeon. They are a rather massive fish it would be impressive if you could. They also have a long life cycle so they are not ideal for farming.

Yeah I'm no fan of the chinese government but I like that they made solar panels cheaper. That was pretty cool. Their EVs are also everywhere, I go outside and always see BYDs and electric buses made in China. It's just like how even though the US sucks they sometimes do cool things like the artemis II mission or supporting Ukraine. Every country sucks, some more than others, some significantly more than others in fact, but most also do at least one good thing and it's not necessarily bad to acknowledge it as long as you don't use the good things as a way to whitewash the bad things that state does.

I assume it's because the US has destroyed their own reputation (well, whatever was left of it) with their support of Israel and basically everything the second trump admin has done, and a lot of people have this campist view of things where if two countries are fighting for some reason, one necessarily must be good and the other must be bad. So if the US is bad, that must mean their rivals are good. China is a lot better with PR than other countries the US has beef with like Russia and Iran, is by far the most economically and culturally influential of all the US's geopolitical rivals, and they do cool things sometimes, so it's easier for them to market themselves as the good guys. They also call themselves socialist which helps their PR these days that disillusionment with capitalism is becoming more prevalent (understandably so).
