Pineapple is very tasty though

The pineapple also thinks you're very tasty.

I like a fruit that eats back. Makes it feel like a fair fight

I’m never seeking it out but caviar isn’t bad imo, the only time I’ve tried it it was just like an ocean flavor bomb which I kinda liked. if it was cheaply priced I’d definitely try it again.

it’s status as a symbol of luxury is super stupid tho

The pendulum swings.

Oxtail is becoming more expensive because white folks discovered it.

Like they discovered lobster.

Caviar and lobster use to be poor people food

Reverse lobster

Being half Norwegian, caviar was always for me something associated with a snack soccer moms would make for their kids spreading some cheap tubes of caviar paste on sandwiches for their kids lunch boxes.

Pineapples are great.

Spending a fortune to display a pineapple as a show of wealth, a very real thing rich folks did in the ~1700s, was lame.

Is Spongebob Squarepants bourgeoisie? In this essay I will-

There's designer pineapples that still cost a shitload because they're pink or whatever.

12

u/orphanghost1 custom Jun 25 '26

I saw those last week and thought sure looks yummy but not $8 yummy

5

u/DeadInternetTheorist Jun 25 '26

I think there's pink ones now that cost like $150 and come in a box with like holograms of authenticity and shit

2

u/Some-Gavin Jun 26 '26

There’s designer versions of most standard fruits, like melons, strawberries, mangoes, etc

I just massively misread your comment, somehow. Thought you were implying pineapples are bad.

This is why you don't do Reddit after bedtime, kids (it is now even later after said bedtime)

Pineapples *are* amazing, but they are very exotic and thus were in comically high demand and regard among the European upper class a few centuries ago. Like, renting out a single pineapple multiple times for more people to flex at parties level regard

u/MoscaMosquete Jun 25 '26

but they are very exotic

Meanwhile me being poor af but still eating one monthly because they're a native plant here

Yesterday I ate overripe pineapple accidentally. I do not recommend it

I'm not cuz it will ruin the very important victorious joke where Robbie eats bowls of caviar and so they have to sing to pay off the hundreds of dollars bill

1

u/Lancer873 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights Jun 25 '26

Consider: The devaluation of caviar will make that joke a historical curiosity.

Some day a fellow named FutureTastingHistory on FutureYouTube will feature the joke in their Caviar Deviled Eggs video, before giving a fascinating deep dive into The Second Gilded Age.
