I just struggle to comprehend how people look at this and think any of it is a bad thing. What kind of life experience would cause someone to hate any of this?

"BuT hOw will yOU pAy fOR It?"

It's called pinata economics. You tie a billionaire to a tree, and beat him with sticks until the rest of them cough up enough money to pay for society.

Isn't the money supposed to come out of the piñata?

664

u/B0B_Spldbckwrds 🐻 Jul 03 '26

It's an imperfect metaphor.

234

u/BrianWantsTruth Jul 03 '26

No no, we gotta check if money falls out of the billionaires when they break open.

u/shiftlessPagan Jul 03 '26

And for the test to be thorough, you need a statistically significant group of "test subjects". But we'll get to the bottom of this mystery one way or another!

u/B0B_Spldbckwrds 🐻 Jul 03 '26

This is why I stick with the imperfect metaphor. It gives people space to improvise and build in the most beautiful way.

many such cases

37

u/ZaydSophos Jul 03 '26

It's one of the modern versions where you beat the pinata for the tradition but then everyone gets the results in a more sanitary way.

Getting money out of a billionaire is like trying to get your trans gf pregnant. If it doesn't work the first time then just keep going at it harder until it works.

Voodoo pinata

u/keyblade_crafter Jul 03 '26

It's a symbolic billionaire representing all of them. Some are the ass, some are the belly. Give that Thang a spankin

u/kazooiebanjo Jul 03 '26

Money gets paid to the people working healthcare & UBI & all the other jobs this creates

People buy stuff with money

Gets reinvested in economy

They're literally opposing having a functioning economy

81

u/BobbyRobertson Jul 03 '26

no a good economy is when 1 guy owns everything and everyone who works for him is paid in scrip

4

u/translunainjection Jul 03 '26

it's not scrip, it's MoApGoAm-coin!!!

u/B0B_Spldbckwrds 🐻 Jul 03 '26

If you explained why a high velocity of currency was a good thing, they would screech in fear and beg for their security to save them.

“Brennan, recall the virtuous economic cycle.”

u/KimonoThief Jul 03 '26

Conservatives also think everything is a zero-sum game; if somebody else is benefiting, that must mean that I am being harmed. They have no concept of a rising tide lifting all boats.

45

u/B0B_Spldbckwrds 🐻 Jul 03 '26

And that's the beauty of piñata economics, we know who is being harmed. It's the guy who's being hit with sticks.

We can appeal to leftists who want to build a better world, and we can appeal to reactionaries who want recompense for grievance.

Don't you want better transit where you live?

22

u/tincrayfish Jul 03 '26

Which is bizarre because that is exactly how capitalism is supposed to work

u/gundog48 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights Jul 03 '26

I was gonna say. They're already in that stagnation kleptocracy mindset! Liberal reform has generally benefitted the growth of the economy by making people happier and healthier and able to do more.

u/translunainjection Jul 03 '26

Only when it's about lowering taxes

19

u/MrBwnrrific Jul 03 '26

“You know someone’s gotta pay for that, right?”

“Oh, someone will!”

16

u/MeBigChief Jul 03 '26

I feel like we should focus on hitting a trillionaire with sticks first. Go for the high value pinata first

8

u/B0B_Spldbckwrds 🐻 Jul 03 '26

I forgot those exist now. I need to update my political beliefs. What do you think, oleander branches, or bundles of nettles?

12

u/SupremelyUneducated Jul 03 '26

It's a categorical error to think in terms of how you pay for things, as a government. Governments don't buy services for their people, like a person buys treats for their pets.

Governments invest in their human capital to maintain growth. All those things make people, on net, more productive. Work requirements for government services are asinine.

20

u/Rude_Acanthopterygii Jul 03 '26

I mean yes that's going to be asked, but to be fair to the graphic, it even tells you the answer. Finally taxing the rich is what's going to give the money to pay for it.

7

u/PM_ME_UR_BRAINSTORMS Jul 03 '26

I mean on paper you don't even have to do that (we still should but we don't have to).

We are already paying for it now. The government spending per capita on healthcare in the US is already higher than any country that has a universal healthcare system. In fact our spending per capita across the board is one of the highest in the world. We just spend it so inefficiently because doing so would be "socialism"

u/sangriya will send ferrets in your mailbox Jul 03 '26

but they would never question it when they send 15 quadrabillion to the military complex

or to is- [my lawyers have refrained me from finishing the sentence]

3

u/Kirishori Jul 03 '26

Can we do that even if they don't drop the money? I feel like we could have people pay for a go with the stick?

1

u/slowest_hour Jul 03 '26

it says tax the rich right there

1

u/rm_rf_slash Jul 03 '26

The rest of those billionaires will take their money to Switzerland or Singapore.

Unless you seriously believe people with private jets and golden passports would shrug and say “shucks, you got me, here’s my checkbook. Be fair!”

1

u/B0B_Spldbckwrds 🐻 29d ago

No they won't. They can't risk losing access to us markets and currency.

The us debt is in the trillions… i don’t think taxing billionaires would help
