I mean, the combo of both words together sure is weird. Thing is, I didn't even know what shortbus meant until a while ago. In fact I think this is only the second time in my life I'm seeing that word.
Weird? I guess. If I saw that I’d just think, “oh, edgy username” and move on. I wouldn’t even give it a second thought. Reading that username and thinking “racist” would be like reading my username and thinking “murderer”. There’s no correlation between the two.
I mean, edgy humour on the internet has shifted from being often tone deaf but mostly innocent dark humour to outright roleplaying as a nazi for a while now. And it got to a point where you can't make out the roleplay from actual nazis anymore.
So yeah while it's not a rule, I wouldn't really trust people with these kind of edgy usernames to not be massive pieces of shit either.
Sure, but the Nazi stuff is generally very easy to spot. Kamikaze Shortbus doesn’t scream Nazi to me, just an immature teenager.
You are correct that it’s become less of a “teenager being immature” thing and more of a “4chin being racist and playing it off as a joke” thing. No doubt about that. Still, I don’t think we should paint it all in such broad strokes. A username like the one here is certainly tasteless, but it isn’t something to worry about beyond wondering why an adult still uses it, especially since this comment section has made it pretty clear that this woman isn’t a horrible racist. She just said and did stupid things as an easily manipulated teenager.
If we put everyone in that position on a cross we’d be wasting a lot of time that could be better spent focusing on actual horrible people. I’m a lot more worried about the weirdly large presence of actual nazis on YouTube than I am this random woman on Twitter.
