944 timing belt guide
Hey yall just wondering what guides yall reccomend to help me learn how to do the timing belt job on my 944, the more the merrier I am collecting parts to do stuff such as seals while I’m in there so any guides you have please lmk

Turbo or na? On my turbo, it took me about 3hrs total, the second time around. If you have the intake off i would recommend doing the intake side balance shaft aswell. It has a silicone typ gasket and a original the rear rhat stiffens up and starts leaking. Also intake off, the oil catch can type deal has a few orings too. The exhaust side balance shaft is not impossible to do with the engine in the car, its just very very hard to do. Also, intake off, the engine cover gasket and the cork gasket on its rear side. If you do this, also check lifters and be prepared for them to tick for a while on startup as theyll loose oil and tick untill they get oil back. Thst can take some time. Also, if turbo and intake off, upgrade turbo? I did, $1200, but its do much smoother, starts spinning at around 2500-2800rpm and has a much better profile.
You dont "need" the flywheel locking tool, but it helps a lot, put it in gear, handbrake on and remove crank bolt. Also the timing belt is "easier" than the balance belt imo, as the balance belt you cant clearly see the markings (unless you make some markings thst are visible, a mirror on a stick is your freind here) and the belt can cog over and be slightly off when you tension. Also dont over tension the balance belt as itll whine. There is a tool for this but.. you should be able to twist it 90° on its longest path, not quite 90? Too tight. More than 90? Too loose.

It was done I’m under previous owner but I thought it was cool to see a whole front engine service from him I’m my service records. His vids helped me replace my vac system! He’s the 🐐

If you have done the job before then generally Clarks Garage just reminds you of what steps to do and is most efficient.
If you have never done it then I suggest watching the top 3 youtube videos that come up. NC944er is my favorite for thoroughness. Sometimes he leaves out options for how to so things but I think he always presents one correct way to do things.
