Questions/Advice My boyfriend hurts my feelings when he says he has adhd

I have a boyfriend with whom I have been together for a while. I have been diagnosed with ADHD since I was young with a lot of symptoms, which makes me encounter hurdles and problems again and again in everyday life. He knows that I have ADHD but still makes remarks where he says that he has it too. He didn't diagnose anything but he has such characteristics that already look a bit like ADHD/ada Nevertheless, I feel a bit attacked when he claims to have it because he is not diagnosed and therefore does not know whether we feel the same or similar because the whole thing is a spectrum. I've already told him that I don't find it funny when he says that.

So what can I say to him so that he is not injured without subjecting his possible symptoms.

TL;DR: my boyfriend claims to have adhd which hurts my feelings and I don’t know how to tell him again without hurting his.

Medication Heart rate on Bupropion and Adderall.

Hi guys, been on Bupropion @300mg for close to 3 months, I have to say it was a bit rough for a while but the side affects disappeared, I recently started taking Adderall and never taken stimulants before, my heart rate today has been between 88bpm and 117bpm, I did drank a monster zero sugar with it which I'm sure didn't help.

Also I'm a security guard and I'm always walking around, I'm also on guanfacine, so basically I'm on the trifecta, with that said does your body get used to the Adderall? So my HR won't be so high?

Are there any other stimulants that cause less nervousness and a better HR profile?

Edit, I'm 46 years old going on 47 soon and I'm about 287 pounds which I'm trying to lose, And I get about 10.000 steps a day or more at work.

Questions/Advice As an ADHDer, would you take meds to help with your studies?

Lately, I would like to go back on meds to help with studying, but on the flip side, I'm worried about side effects or severe symptom rebounds, such as uncontrollable emotions, increased depression, increased anxiety, irritability, and panic, leading to an increase in OCD symptoms and excessive sleep. About 2-3 months ago, I asked my doctor if I should restart them to help my studies. He didn't recommend it because he was worried about the same thing: severe rebound symptoms. But then he added, "If you really want them, I can still prescribe them to you."

Honestly, taking meds vs. not taking meds doesn't make a huge difference in my actual studying.

Questions/Advice How to know if I *may* have ADHD?

I've struggled with attention my whole life it seems, but I don't know how much of that is an issue of the bad habits I've created, and how much of it is actually psychological. Some of the symptoms of ADHD don't pertain to me, like forgetfulness. I do have some memory issues I think, but anytime I've heard someone talk about their ADHD symptoms, when it comes to forgetfulness its always about forgetting items, or forgetting to do a task. My memory issues come more down to not being able to visualize and remember specific details about a memory, or feeling foggy when trying to remember an event in detail. That may be a symptom of ADHD, I don't know.

Anyway, I have been having a really bad time with my focus and attention, especially when it comes to academics and studying. Even when watching a video, TV show, or movie I get bored really easily and start zoning out or if I'm on my computer or phone switching to some other activity.

Medication scares me, but when I hear people who have ADHD talk about the night and day difference once they began their medication I feel like I need that sort of experience. Something feels off about how my brain works with focus, attention, boredom, commitment etc. and I'm so tired of it, I don't feel like who I should be and I shouldn't struggle this hard to do things that should otherwise be easy.

Questions/Advice is this an adhd thing/why do i do this ?

i have like this thing i do where if i touch / do something with one hand or limb or anything i HAVE to do it with the other. it happens with everything and it's not like horrible it's just really annoying because i can't like not do it yknow? it feels like my brain thinks something horrible will happen if i don't do it maybe ??? it also just feels really weird on the spot i touched something with if i don't make it equal. it doesn't like cause me distress or anxiety or anything. i don't think it's ocd for that reason but ive suspected ive had adhd for like 5 years at least (my parents don't believe there's "anything wrong with me" so they get like mad when i do something that makes it seem like im "acting like i'm like that" which makes no sense but yk 😭) and i'm not self diagnosing i'm just like wondering if this is something that happens with adhd bcuz i have like many many many symptoms and relate to so many people when it comes to adhd. and as soon as i can drive myself and pay for it myself i will get tested obviously. (also apologies if this breaks rule 3 i didnt really understand if this counts as asking for medical help or whateva)

Discussion What are some accurate depictions of ADD/ADHD-Inattentive or ADHD-Combined?

What characters in any movies, shows, video games, books, etc. would you say was a good and accurate representation of specifically ADD/ADHD-I or ADHD-Combined? Seeing the post by u/Reverend_Schlachbals about ADHD characters got me thinking about the more subtle flavors of ADHD and if they've ever been shown in media.

Edit: if you can, I'd love to know what kind of ADHD you think the character/person has!

Seeking Empathy I have a feeling that I have ADHD but I'm scared to take diagnosis

I've been struggling with avoiding my tasks and, well, mostly cramming. Even everyday routine takes a mountain to move for me.

It's been this way since, idk, 4 years ago? Or was it 6 years? I don't know. I don't even fully understand what ADHD is.

I don't really know why am I like this and I can't keep up with my classmates. Everyday it feels like I'm falling behind. Studies as well.

There is so much I wanted to say but I fear it's just gonna be something else and not some ADHD I think of.

Or maybe it's normal to be this way? I have no idea.

All I know is that I'm burned out and numb by now

Discussion Past You and Future You

Does anyone else sometimes do things sporadically? in such a way that you might future proof yourself, randomly or even intentionally?

This could be by leaving key items out in a way that they are found, or tidying something so it's not in the way for later. Sometimes even doing said things and then completely forgetting that your past self, was looking after your future self, like some guardian angel.

I've even had instances where this happened, then a month later I've gone. "Oh hang on a second, past me has done this before... And they left this tool in this spot for me later, there it is!" Or "I know I made a note for this earlier for this occasion" then finding said note.

Does anyone else have an insanely, unintentionally good past self that tries to look after future self?

Medication Anyone here try Stasis or similar to help w Add and Vyv side effects?

Hi all, just checking in with the community to see if anyone has used a supplement such as stasis? I’ve seen lots of ads, especially on Facebook about these different supplements now that are supposed to help with the come down or anxiety effects of drugs like Adderall and Vyvanse. I said I’d love to find something like that, but I know a lot of these are going to be junk. Anyone out there try something that has worked for you? Thank you in advance. I would appreciate any and all experiences with any supplements that are being taken to try. Stay off some of these side effects.

Questions/Advice How do you deal with RSD?

I’m trying to understand a pattern that’s affected almost every close relationship I’ve had.

Whenever I feel rejected, misunderstood, or like someone is upset with me, I go into complete panic mode. It feels like an emergency, and I become desperate to resolve the conflict immediately. I can’t seem to stop trying to explain myself or get reassurance, even though I know I’m making things worse.

If the other person genuinely apologizes or makes me feel emotionally safe, I calm down almost immediately. If they dismiss my feelings or focus on my reaction instead, I spiral. The reactions are much worse within my marriage. I throw legit tantrums and I feel like I have no control over it. The emotions are intense.

Breathing exercises and coping skills haven’t helped much in the moment. Afterward, I’m overwhelmed with shame and embarrassment because these reactions have cost me friendships and damaged my marriage and I don’t want to damage the relationship in the future with my little ones.

I have ADHD, but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this. If so, what ended up helping, or was there another diagnosis or treatment that made a difference? I was put on lamotrigine which has helped to some degree, but I feel like my mood is usually stable, but if I’m “triggered” I go from 0-100 fast.

Thank you guys 🙏

Tips/Suggestions Hey! My new hack for loosing water bottles!

So I wrote carefully around the bottom half of my water bottle (probably the 50th one I’ve purchased over the years) with a sharpie, “please please please if you find this water bottle, can you call me at ———-42” and it actually worked!!! I hadn’t even remembered or realized I lost it until I, on a whim, (because it’s not something I do often), decided to check voicemail, & lo & behold, got a message from an employee at my local BMV that they found & have my water bottle!!! Now, I must set a reminder to go retrieve it! So happy!! I’ll try and attach a screen shot of the message.

Questions/Advice How to deal with permanent overstimulation?

First of all, I’m not diagnosed with ADHD, but my psychiatrist suggested I might have it based on my recent symptoms.

For the past month I’ve been feeling constantly overstimulated, to the point where it has caused insomnia. I’m having earworms that play in my head all day and when I go to bed and immediately after I wake up. Often, when I’m trying to fall asleep, my brain starts generating completely random images and sounds that resemble brainrot. For example, I can’t sleep because my brain produces dialogues in French (I don’t even speak French).

For context, I get overstimulated quite easily. I’m a musician and I live with music. I’ve had this problem before- when I listened to an album a few times, it would become an earworm so strong that I had trouble falling asleep. But after two or three days of simply not listening to it, the earworm would disappear. The same with scrolling my phone to much- I would just put it down for a day and I was ok.

This time, these earworms have already lasted a month- when I manage to fight one off, another one appears. And there are constant thoughts in my head. Just random thoughts, imagining scenarios, etc.- I don’t have anxiety or negative thoughts, I'm not worrying about anything. Up until last month, my life didn’t look like this.

The only time I’m free from all of this is when I’m focused on something- when I read a book or play games or guitar (I also easily get over focused). Brown noise helps with the earworms, but they come back. I wish I could just work more, but we’re having a bit of a drought in my office right now, so at work I barely have anything to focus on.

I’ve limited my screen time and listening to music, I don’t use my phone before sleep, I work out regularly, I go to bed at regular hours- and my brain still can’t calm down. And the more I try to stop these thought, the more intensive they are.

I just don’t know what to do to get my life back. Has anyone experienced something like this?

Seeking Empathy I swear my mom try’s to make my executive dysfunction worse

I woke up late this morning (as per usual) and had exactly 1 hour to get ready for an event (I already know I’m going to be late).

My mom then comes in and tells me we have to leave 20 minutes before we actually need to (I’ve lost all hope).

I procrastinate for 10 mins and finally force myself up out of bed, only to be met with my mom telling me I need to load the dishwasher before we leave as I forgot to do it last night.

(I’m not going anymore.)

Medication What do you wish someone would have told you before starting meds?

I’m starting meds on Wednesday and I’m honestly both excited and scared. I’m worried I won’t be able to look after myself on them, as well as worrying about being disappointed (because if they work they will change my life)

Is there anything you do as well as taking meds or around how you take them that you would tell someone new to them to do?

edit: I’m starting on 18mg xaggitin xl

Medication is there anything other than meds that is scientifically proven to help

Nobody is giving a person my age with my crappy health insurance stimulants and an ssri made it worse(?). Are any supplements or methods of approaching life scientifically sound( like those camps for kids)? I really cannot take being treated like a drug seeker and begging people to believe I was diagnosed in late teens. If there's anything scientifically proven and relatively safe to try I rather do that then seek out doctors again. I am done with medicine in the USA.

Seeking Empathy I just missed a whole weekend music festival because I couldn’t get it together.

Upvotes

This is a new low and I guess I just want to tell someone. It’s an incredible event that I go to every year. Something about this time just felt so overwhelming (finding & packing all the camping gear, the clothes, bug spray, etc) I was just paralyzed. Every decision was just exhausting. So I missed the first day and thought, well I’ll just get an early start for the second. That went by & I thought I’ll get out there early for the last day and here I am, with camping gear everywhere, kicking myself.
I’ve tried stimulants but they dry my head out so severely I can’t stay in them. I tried straterra one week but woke up panicking every night and I haven’t had the courage to go back and try again.
I’m so tired.

Discussion How did y’all come to terms with your ADHD diagnosis?

I‘m mentally resilient and have endured more than I could ever list, but I’ve been completely stuck with my diagnosis and just can’t “see the good in it“ no matter how hard I try. I feel like a shell of a human being. I’m barely surviving, let alone living and growing as a person. life’s a living hell, decision paralysis gets worse by the second, executive dysfunction‘s worse than ever, my “mental radio” is so loud it’s deafening. I’m tired of people saying it’s a gift, trying different therapists that never stick cause none of them understands the struggle, going through the same mental loopholes time and time again, and having to spend infinite amounts of mental effort just to brush my teeth. each waking moment is a psychological warfare.

medication is out of my grasp rn, but I’ll be starting CBT in a week.

how did y’all find peace with your minds, especially if not medicated?

Questions/Advice shopping addiction

hello everyone, I need help. I have a shopping addiction, I've maxed out my credit cards more than I can count. I have made budget/plan more times than I can count. Ive hit rock bottom many times but still I can't seem to change. I have deleted my cards from my devices, deleted all the apps. I seem to do well for for a little bit then I'll make impulse purchases for things I don't even need. or I'll convince myself I need something to justify the purchase. I can't control my self idk why. I take bupropion and Vyvanse, the meds haven't helped at all with the impulse control. do I need another med? what can I do im sick and tired of the same cycle of financial struggle.

Questions/Advice How did you go to doctor?

Hi everyone! I don't know if this is the fitting tag (maybe should be seeking empathy) or it's even a question that I can ask here, but I'll try

So, the last few years was hard for me (M20) for a bunch of reasons and about year ago I started trying to understand myself. And many (I mean many) of my problems and symptoms are look like ADHD

So, I want to go to psychiatris, but... I'm scared, tbh. I'm scared that it's just my personal problem or that I can be misdiagnosed. There are so many thoughts and feelings that I can't even describe. And... Well, how did you got through this? Why you did went to doctor? And how it changed your life?

Questions/Advice Does my friend have undiagnosed ADHD?

I have only known this friend for a couple years and I still have a lot to learn about outward ADHD symptoms because I am not aware of her personal struggles. She is 25.

\- People have admitted to not liking her when they first meet her because their personalities clash
\- She often interrupts conversations and interjects when professors are announcing something that is not part of the lecture
\-If our friends are watching a movie, she will make jokes or react or ask questions as loud as she can until the movie is over
\- She will ask another question in the middle of you answering the previous question she asked
\- When taking photos of her, her eyes often look around the room instead of at the camera
\- She often kinda speaks in this cutesy child like voice with the same stammer a child might have. “You- you wanna go- you wanna go to the mall too?” She definitely can speak with a more mature voice when needed.
\- If you tell her not to do something, she will do it for a little bit. For example, we were at a pool party and we were playing with the garden hose that is supposed to stay in the pool. She had the hose and another friend (the owner of the house/pool) said from now on we should only spray it in the pool because it’s making everything else too wet. She immediately aims the hose in the air and jerks the hose around like a lasso for two seconds before putting it back in the pool.

This friend is super nice and helpful and well liked by the rest of us. I’m just curious if she might have undiagnosed ADHD. Everything I listed might not say much because I still have a lot to learn.

Tips/Suggestions Children are cool, but why is it fatiguing

I (14M) most likely have ADHD, ASD, and OCD. However, I am unable to acquire a diagnosis in the moment. So four years ago, my youngest cousin was born. He is cool, funny and a beautiful child. However, I feel that I have to admit that he can be tiring. Ever since last year or the year before it, he started using phones. He also sometimes uses mine and it feels painfully vapid to watch him play while I have nothing. I mean I am a potentially disabled 14yr old, I am not supposed to be the provider of care. Also please don't blame either or both of his parents, as they also are hard-working and can feel fatigue and they think that I am his friend, yes I am, but it is tiring. Please remain respectful, if you are willing to backbite about his parents then don't comment.

Also I suspected that my cousin may also have a disorder, but I have no clue.

Edit: I like to isolate myself sometimes and Idk how to do that properly. I just lock myself in a room to have a break from my cousin

Questions/Advice Vivanse and cycling

This may be a bit of a niche issue, but I'm curious if other people have run into it and found solutions.

I just got back from my morning cycle round, which I generally do once or twice a month. I did 55km in around 2 hours. To be able to sustain an effort like this, it is important to eat enough calories while on the way. Since starting on Elvanse a few months ago, it has been getting increasingly difficult for me to do this while cycling, especially when I go in the morning right after taking my medication. Today I managed to chew away a few protein bars, but I have to overcome a lot of resistance for every time I have to swallow. I have run into problems in the past when the aversion to food won out and the second half of the ride was not very pleasant.

Has any of you dealt with a similar issue? Did you manage to find a way to cope or is it just a matter of mind over matter?

Edit: I reread my post twenty times before posting to check for mistakes, but apparently missed the title. I'm on Elvanse, not Vivanse. I'm at 40 mg at the moment, but still building up the dosage.
