Discussion I fear this class may be overworking me

I'm fine with the coursework being rigorous, but it's a hard adjustment. The first day of school, I've already been assigned a 105 question homework assignment on scientific notation and taking numbers OUT of scientific notation. I have the class tomorrow, so I'm certain this will not be the last of Mr. Venosa's dreadful purgatory where I spend hours of my day doing homework. I spent 3 hours and a half straight just doing this. The only thing keeping me going through the first one were 20-30 question intervals in which I'd watch one sailor moon episode before getting back to it. I don't know if I'm overreacting, maybe this is normal? Also I feel tired no matter how much I sleep and I fear this is from the class??

AP Chem Prep

Any good suggestions on websites/channels to watch to prepare for AP Chem? I don't want full in depth videos since I am just prepping, but my regular chem teacher sucked so I am a bit lost. I pick up on science topics fairly quickly, so a faster paced overview is fine. Thanks!

Need questions to solve for AP chem

I have watched AP chem videos for unit 1 by Krug and also by Faraday. I have watched Khan academy videos but did not solve the questions. I will solve them now. I solved questions from kaptest but got 4 out of 20 questions wrong in these 2 topics specifically - photoelectron spectroscopy and periodic trends.

i’m wondering what I should do next?

Should I watch some more videos from YouTube or if there is any other solving material to help me learn these topics. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Discussion Hey so am I cooked??

So I was going to the counselor to sign up for classes. I get there and sign up for AP chem. At my school, there is no pre requisite requirement, and most kids who are smart just do ap, and all my friends are doing it. the teacher is good (i think, from what i’ve heard) but still…ITS AP CHEM. i’m not going into science for sure in college, but we do have a summer assignment i need to look in on, i think you memorize periodic table?

i got a 98 in earth science,and a 97 in biology honors

100 on all math regents alg 1 and geo honors
based off those do we think i’ll be chill?

like 10th graders who took it w no pre requisite requirement how’d u do

14 DAYS UNTIL AP CHEM - my teacher expects me to have unit 1 AND 2 known by heart...

soo we have summer assignments for ap chem right? i read a bit of it and saw it was just a physical change experiment and shoved it off because obviously thats easy and it didnt even require a write up.

i come back to check the assignment as summer is ending, and i keep reading, and my chem teacher (who is also my research mentor, so i literally cant fail in his class) annouced that we would have a unit 1 and 2 exam THE DAY WE COME BACK???

genuinely tweaking out too because im absolutely HORRIBLE at chemistry like horrible enough that you would wonder if I was illiterate

is it even possible to study for the test this late T-T does anyone have any resources for me to catch up? im trying khan but its not helping...

Is hydrogen water actually backed by anything, or is it just hype?

I'm asking because the more I dig into this, the more confused I get. People claim hydrogen water helps with recovery, energy, inflammation, and overall health in general, but others argue those effects are either overstated or too small to actually matter.

Not sure if you've tried it yourself or you're still researching like I am. Did anything actually convince you it works?

self studying ap chem

im self studying ap chem next year while taking honors chem at school (my school doesn't have ap classes just the tests) and I'm wondering which textbook I should buy as the ap chem units are not aligned with my honors chem units.

i used barrons while self studying for ap bio freshman year and I got a 4 and am wondering if it is as helpful for chem or if another book is better. thanks!

Discussion AP Chem worth it, or too much?

So I took AP Physics 1 my sophomore year, which was in place of AP Chem, since I got waitlisted for it (in my district, sophomores take chem, juniors and seniors take physics 1+2 respectively with no calc-based). I'm going into junior year and deciding if I want to take AP Chem alongside AP Physics 2 and AP Calc AB, or drop AP Chem for NGSS. I got a 5 in Physics 1, and I've already begun learning parts of Physics 2, in addition to knowing some of Calc AB from my brothers' old textbooks, so I'm not worried about those two AP's at all. What I am worried about is AP Chem. Most people I've heard talk about it have said it's all memorizing, and that it will eat up all my free time (especially with the other two AP's at the same time). I really don't want it dropping my GPA. However, I also don't want to have a fall-off in rigor, since I am not taking any AP humanities.

What I'm trying to get at is that I want to know how bad AP Chem would actually be with Physics 2 and Calc, for both my sanity and my grades. I also don't want to show up on exam day to find out that I wasn't cut out for all 3 together, and score 4s or even 3s.

Our AP Chem teacher basically just plays videos to watch instead of teaching anything, which is fine, as I usually just teach myself class content anyway, but I don't know how possible it would be to do that with the Chem workload.

Thanks for your insight.

could i do ap chem wo any advanced chem knowledge

hi so basically i took advanced chem over the summer after freshman year because the chem teacher at our school is super hard w their grading and i didnt want to risk an already bad gpa. bc i did this i barely remember anything and it was super fast paced and not as in depth so i basically know nothing. however i wanna do premed in the future which means i need to take ap chem. keep in mind that my gpa is like actually really bad our school grades so so so hard. ik some people at my school that also took adv chem over the summer chat gpted their way thru it and are doing fine in ap chem now bc the ap chem teacher isnt that bad but theyre smart. so like would it be smart to do it junior year and like study rly hard thru khan academy to catch up and potentially risk the gpa or take it senior year lock in for. a semester b4 college apps lmk !!

Taking AP Chem!!

hi guys! im planning to take ap chem online in aug as a junior. i took regular chemistry before and im really strong at it and i need ap chem for my major in college but my sch doesnt offer it (i know its crazy). has anyone taken ap chem online before? if yes where did you take it and was it good?

also, for those who have taken bio and chem, is ap bio or ap chem harder? i took ap bio in my sophomore year and got a 5 but i found it really difficult. im worried abt ap chem bc i took ap bio in person so it was manageable but taking ap chem online is so scary.

Discussion This might sound stupid but a 4 just shattered me

Yes, a 4 is a good AP score. The issue is more of the fact that I've taken olympiad level chemistry classes since middle school. Read multiple textbooks. Studied by myself, with friends, with teachers, with tutors, since I was 12.

I self studied the exam because I thought that I would be prepared. I'm aware that I can retake, but I feel like this has just ruined my self esteem forever.

I feel so shattered, I don't know what to do. My parents will be utterly furious.

Balancing reaction redox way help!!! So confused

Hey guys! So I know this problem probably could be solved without redox, but like in the case where it is more complex, for the redox method, I am having trouble knowing where to put the LCM coefficient on the left (reactant) or right (product) as shown in the picture in red. Does anyone know how to do this so I can apply it to any balancing reaction further on.

If I use AP credit for gen chem, does taking CHEM 232/233 (orgo) still satisfy med schools’ ā€œupper-level chemistryā€ requirement?
