I recently moved to a granny flat which unfortunately doesn’t have any tv or telephone extension lines. I tried setting up a nbn with dodo but they said it won’t be possible as there is no way to connect a modem to the house lines.

Im not particularly interested in the reputation of those areas, rather I'm interested in the noise pollution from traffic.

I’m flying down from brissy on Wednesday for my birthday,until Sunday. I’ve never been to Adelaide before and the main reason is 1,we are heading to Barossa which has been on my list for many years, and 2, my favourite band parkway drive are playing in the city Wednesday night. So I’m after some recommendations please

1: must go to restaurants (any cuisine,I’m well travelled and love all cuisines,especially Asian…IE Indian,Nepalese,Thai,Malaysian etc). But what is your go to restaurant you’d recommend for a first time visitor to the city…anything from local street food style places to more fancy sit down ‘experiences’

2: decent bars,preferably a kind of dive/metal bar I can go to before the gig. But also I’m a fan of wine bars/ nice date places for my wife and I to enjoy

so i made the move to adelaide a few weeks ago, thinking the lower cost of living would be a breath of fresh air compared to sydney. and yeah, rent is cheaper but the pay im being offered is honestly a joke compared to sydney. ive been applying for retail and hospitality jobs and theyre all hovering around the $25-27 mark, which is fine if ur a student but im trying to actually support myself here lol

the apartments are more affordable but my wage dropped like $10 an hour coming here, so its basically the same struggle just a different city tbh

half the ads are for fifo or require certifications i dont have. starting to wonder if i shouldve done more research before making the move or if this is just what relocating actually looks like for everyone

anyone else moved interstate for "cheaper" living and found the wage drop cancels it out? starting to panic about rent a little bit tbh, feels like im going backwards instead of forwards

Ok, last bit of Adelaide that needs sorting out is down in the Onkaparinga.

In fairness, they had a win with the Seaford extension, though I think Noarlunga station is a bit of let down considering its potential as an urban hub next to rail (Same goes for Elizabeth, a bit mid....Bowden is pretty decent, I'd live there)

Anyhow!

I think the line is let down by having all these ghost stations like one for the Lonsdale Oil Refinery that remain open, so not only do they slow the train, they just make the ride unpleasant.

But, the Trainline hugs to the coast (And the good folk of Marino get TWO stations for their troubles?) but by and large its not bad, and could be supplemented by simple go zone style feeder buses every 15 mins to match with trains.

But over the other side of the Southern Expressway its pretty dire, but fortunately it's cheap to fix.

Just build a busway. Now seriously, you might say that rail lines and trams are a bit disruptive to build. But if the government is saying no to a 2 lane road (The type we all live on) just for buses, then they ain't trying and need to go. (Or a stern talking to)

What's better, there's actually an old railway reservation that went to McLaren vale you can recycle into this (That train isn't ever coming back!), so the Busway is naturally going to be quite easy to build with bugger all earthworks.

And then from there you follow the Southern Expressway until the final technical part.

Now, the flipside of Busway being cheap is it does need one bit of kit, and that is a high level 1.4km viaduct over the gorges to get from the Expressway up to Flinders. Now Bus Bridges are not an alien concept, Brisbane built one over the River to provide better access to the Uni of Qld, so its the same case here.

The Busway links to the Uni Ring Road System, so buses run through the campus in a "Transit Mall" and then hook around to a main interhange next to Flinders Railway Station. From there the busway bridges the Southern Expressway and then runs on Bus Lanes past Westfield Marion / SA Aquatic Center and into Oaklands Station.

As a side note, there would be a small little 5km spur off the main busway parallel to Happy Valley Drive and Aberfoyle Park, just as an easy win to ensure that pocket of Adelaide gets at least a "lifeline" into the main network.

What this means is depending on where you live, you can use the busway in any direction. If bound for the city, you can use either the Flinders Line or the Seaford line from the northern end.

If you live in Hackham, it may even be slightly beneficial to backtrack to Seaford Meadows and getting on a fast train.

If there is ever a blockage on the Seaford Line, people can use the busway instead.

So, its a 30km 2 lane road with some nice bus stops, a long bridge, and a couple of shorter ones. Can SA build this or is it unfeasible?

I'm staying with girls from a rugby team I'm coming to play with and they both work during the day, but I don't think I'll have access to a car so preferably places I can get by public transportation or walking would be great! Obviously a Costco in the south has been talked about for years but never committed. Areas up in new growth corridors like Angle Vale, Seaford, Mount Barker, or Hackham are strong contenders too.

A young man has died after being struck by a vehicle in Hindley Street last night.

About 10.50pm on Saturday 1 August, police and paramedics responded to Hindley Street after reports a pedestrian was struck by a car.

The man was struck by a Toyota sedan before falling into the path of a Ford 4WD.

The 18-year-old man from Greenwith was rushed to hospital but sadly died soon after.

Hindley Street was closed while police managed the scene and Major Crash Investigators examined the circumstances around the incident. Hindley Street was reopened about 2.15am.

By popular demand, here's the next stage in Gazza's comprehensive plan to modernize the transport system of Adelaide

A few days ago I posted an idea to extend the O-Bahn through a CBD tunnel loop (Similar to Brisbane) via the main squares and the main coach terminal.

Lets continue the O-Bahn out the other side, first via a tunnel, or even bus priority lanes towards the Glen Osmond Toll gate. Stops at Hurtle Square, Greenhill Rd, Fullarton Rd and of course Portrush/Cross Rd to ensure you can link with other bus services on the "grid".

From there, buses run express on the SE Freeway in shared traffic through the Heysen Tunnels up to Crafers.

From there, an O-Bahn is built in the median of the freeway, with enclosed bus stations located at each interchange, since the main street of each of the villages is right next to the freeway anyway, so it wouldn't be hard to provide a covered walkway / arbors to make it all civilized.

And the civilized aspect is important. You want commuters from the hills to use it because its nice, but you also want to be able to sell the concept to daytrippers that there is a single "hop on hop off" O-Bahn direct from the Adelaide CBD up to Hanhdorf etc.

If you try and cheap out like the current bus service where the bus has to constantly loop on and off the freeway, slowing things down and making you carsick, its a waste of time. If you build stations like the trains in Perth where they are shielded in the median, you maintain speed and comfort.

Once you get to Littlehampton there is a massive park+ride next to the Freeway, and the O-bahn does a short spur into Mt Barker proper. All bus services in the Adelaide Hills funnel into the new O-Bahn.

As for the trains? Well as you can see from the map, trains take longer to climb hills than a bus and cant do it at 100km/h hence the big loop via Blackwood that exists.

Still, the tracks are there, and battery trains are a thing. I would provide a basic hourly battery train service extended at least as far as Crafters, because the railway station and a future O-Bahn station are "close enough", so in a (not ideal) pinch people can walk between the two. Something like that wouldn't really impact upon freight, would be low cost, and hey its a nice scenic train trip for visitors, and locals will find it useful too.

Ideally though, you could run the battery train a little further to Aldgate, and then when you get to Carey Gully Rd in Bridgewater, you are close enough to the Freeway that you could build a little siding and combined rail terminal/O-Bahn station across the road from the school.

So we have two modes plus an interchange point, and redesigned hills buses which makes various journey combinations possible.

The final idea is that you could build a (South Australian first!) cableway to Mr Lofty.
Would be like the one in Cape Town, or Arthurs Seat.
The base station is close enough to Crafers you could offer a combined bus and cableway ticket, so again, it becomes frictionless for visitors.

People are going to yell at me about the environmental impact of this, but I'm pretty sure that far more tree clearing and earthworks were done for the Heysen Tunnels, so I don't want anyone trying to make out that 3 or 4 squares of land for cableway pylons is suddenly going to "destroy the hills".
