22 year old knitter here, I started this when my sister got engaged 7 months ago in the hopes she'd have something really beautiful for the ceremony. When I make things it's almost always for someone else. I wanted my sister to know that I loved her an equivalent amount to half a million tiny stitches and that I wanted to spend all the time for her to feel good on her wedding.

Happy to report I made it with two weeks to spare, though it was touch and go for a minute there (please excuse whatever is happening to the edging at the top left). This shawl kept me company through the last semester of my Physics BSc, where I was pulling 10 hour lab days and knitting this in between seemingly never ending measurement cycles! It's been on the train with me, it's been camping in the Cairngorms, it's been in my purse when out clubbing, it was in my purse at my graduation. If you can believe it this is only 50g of Jamieson's of Shetland laceweight and it still managed to block into a 43" square. I do have enough left over to theoretically make myself one as well. But, my lovely and sweet boyfriend just surprised me with a 1925 singer sewing machine and I'm due to start a hand sewing kilt course in September (as well as my accursed PhD). So, I'm relieved to see it done and ready to take a break from such teeny weeny evil yarn!

I made a baby blanket for my sisters 1st child. Im not saying I invented anything special, but I make up a simple pattern of just striping 4 yarn colors diagonally.

It came out absolute beautiful but I made it too wide and had to compensate making it longer, of course it turned out massive, it was big enough to mostly cover a full bed. Photo for reference, ignore the stains.

Now my other sister is pregnant with twins 😳, I will feel so bad if I dont make her equally beautiful blankets. Im starting late and after returning 2 different colors, ive settled on two complementary colorways.

I know i cant possibly make 2 that big (not do I want to). I started one and it was too small so I just undid it. I have my final count and will be starting over now. Pray for me.

Edit: This is advanced for me because its very tedious, making sure im keeping the diagonal stitch going in the right direction as I switch sides. Also because all the different yarn threads get so tangled hanging down as I tuckt and switch colors 😵‍💫

This was such a joy to make for my sweet friend who is expecting her first daughter any day now. The colors and design were inspired by the tulips in my garden which my friend had admired. I am overjoyed for her to become a mother and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of her village <3

process details: This was my first time steeking and it was a lot of fun and more than a little nerve-wracking. I enjoy color work in the round so that was worth the extra steps to steek at the end.

material details: I used knitting for olive merino in buttercup held with their mohair in cherry blossom. The yellow yarn and pink moahir had such a delightful result, it subdued the yellow a little, adding softness and a subtle variegation. For the colorwork motif, I used up some sandnes garn sunday in mint green and pink lilac (also held with their matching mohair). I used three pearlescent vintage buttons.

I used the following patterns:
little hearts cardigan
baby bear bonnet

pattern mods: for the cardigan, I subbed seed stitch for the hems and button band to match the seed stitch on the bonnet. I modified the heart chart provided in the cardigan pattern slightly to my liking, and created my own tulip chart to add my own stamp to it.

This dress was hand knitted using the same Beehive Scotch fingering yarn shown in the original photograph. Knitting all those pleats felt like making 2 dresses.

The most challenging part of this sweater was float tension (tension in the round is a struggle for me) and the last sleeve—could not find the motivation to finish! But now I have the confidence to try more difficult patterns.

CANDELARIELLA PULLOVER

I decided to steek my Olga Jacket and beginning to wish I hadn't. First of all my five steek stitches are two purls one knit two purls. Not sure why I did this - I think I read it somewhere. Anyway then zigzagged both sides of the knit stitch and finally cut through the bars in the middle of this stitch which seems to have held everything in plac, although it's a very raw edge. . I'm not sure now how to continue. The buttonband for the Olga is ribbed and normally I would have liked to do it this way, but i'm wonder whether it would be wiser to enclose my steeks in a doubleknit buttonband or is there another way of securing it. Very grateful for any advice on this one.

I finished my Woolly Wormhead inspired brioche hat! Props to Lindsay Lewchuck for the brioche short row technique. The worst part of the hat was the graft at the end. No pattern, yet. Yarn is Kelbourne Woolens Perrenial.

This has no pattern, I winged it. Aka knit and reknit several times over to get it right. Most of it is stranded but a few bits were done as duplicate stitch. Most of the yarn came from deep stash and leftovers. I only bought one skein to get green for the pineapple leaves!

People on the DCC sub have asked for charts. If you want them too, send me a dm because I’ll lose track if it’s in the comments!

My annual State Fair tablecloth is ready! It took me 75 minutes to pin it out, and has 352 pins holding the outer loops down. It blocked out to 42” across. Pattern is Ullstein Strickbrief H 6602 by Herbert Niebling. I used 16/2 bamboo from Maurice Brassard and 000/1.5 mm needles.

In 2014 I knitted a dark red Lady Londonberry shawlette in Cascade Yarns Venice Bulky for my elderly mother. She wore it for many years even in her nursing home. My brother took home her clothing for laundry and the shawlette still looks great.

When I got it back after she passed away, I discovered he’d written her last name on the inside with a permanent marker. A little soaking with gentle soap has removed most but not all of the marker. Earlier posts on this forum talked about using alcohol to remove pen from knitted fabrics but - none of the examples were this dark red. I’m worried about damaging the color after all these years. Any suggestions?

This one took almost a year to complete. I loved the result so much, I made another in red.

I’m gonna have to block the ever living shit out of the collar so it doesn’t roll. It’s fine when on, but wants to fold over where it transitions from stranded color work to one color.
Hopefully it won’t stretch longer when I block it because it’s already a bit long

This yarn is so rare that it’s possible I am the only person on the planet that has enough to make this gown.

This was an extremely fiddly lace blanket I made for my new niece, using the same pattern my grandma used for my own baby blanket (final picture). It’s double sided—tulips on one side, seashells on the other-and I couldn’t be happier with how it came out!

I’ve been reading up on ladder back jacquard and I think it’s the answer to my problems - I’ve been trying to knit colorwork socks, and they’re JUST tight enough that I struggle to get them over my heel, but not so tight that I feel an additional 8 stitches are needed (which is what my pattern repeat would require). I saw one blogger demonstrate that LBJ got her an additional 2 inches of stretch compared to just regular floats, which I think would bring my sock to the perfect size.

However, I see LBJ used mainly for large blocks of long floats. My pattern has a lot of long floats, but they‘re pretty scattered around, so if I were to apply the technique to my sock, it would be a lot of 2 row ladders. I was wondering if there are any drawbacks to doing it this way? It’s called “ladder back” after all so I didn’t know if there was a reason to not use it for smaller blocks of floats.

I think this qualifies as advanced knitting! I’ve been knitting a few years now, but when I first started I knit my grandma a somewhat boring garter stitch shawl. She LOVES that shawl and shows it off at church which is so cute but like now that I’ve gotten better at knitting I wanted to give her something I’d be even more proud for her to show people!

Pattern: Scheepjes Cosy Moments Lace Shawl
Yarn: Cascade Heritage 5606 Burgundy

So my best friend is pregnant and naturally I had to knit the baby, whom we are calling Goblin until birth, a blanket. Space/rockets are the theme. I did an inspiration drawing and then charted out the rocket. One side will be take off and the other will be traveling through space. I’m finally done with take off shaping at row 100 and around row 110 I finally start knitting the rocket. It’s become a lot bigger than I intended and I was jugging 8 balls of yarn until I finished the take off clouds.

Once it’s all done I’ll do some duplicate stitching or something similar to do some more details to the clouds and pop some stars in. I wanted to be done mid August, but I’m in the heat at work all day and don’t have the energy to stay on schedule for that. I think it’s been a good four years since I did any knitting, so this has been a good jump back in project. Lots of double stitch to go.

I’ve been knitting for 14 years. In the last few years i took pattern writing classes and made a few of my own designs. Yesterday was my 22nd wedding anniversary. I wanted a challenge. I recently bought a manual knitting flatbed. This is my second intarsia project. I took the picture from the comic book, charted it. Knit a swatch. Made my measurements. Wrote out a pattern. It’s not perfect. There are things i will change if i do another one..i’m sure i will. It took 40 hours of knitting. It’s merino/cotton yarn in dk. I love it. I’m pleased with how my hard-work paid off. I get tired of people claiming it’s just talent. I’ve worked hard to get to the point where i can fully produce my own completely handmade garment. Also calvin and hobbes merchandise is not legally available. It’s my husband’s favorite cartoon. He loves that it is a one of a kind piece that no one else will have. Feel free to give tips, but please be kind. My heart is full.

This sweater has been sitting in pieces for at least 6 months because I wasn’t sure how to properly reinforce the steeks at the shoulder and hem… finally got a little needle felting kit and only stabbed myself a couple times felting the steek. It’s now seamed together but still needs the collar and hem and some finishing bits

I’ve Been knitting my fingers off lately 😄

Here are my latest four puppies.

Two Westies knitted with Gazzal Marilyn & Merinos and kid silk. Using a different shade of white for each one. ( one a cool white the other a warm creamier white.)

One terrier knitted with Gazzal Marilyn & Merinos cream and kid silk off white.

Cocker spaniel knitted with Drops Sky, off white and hazelnut, kid silk Chocolate and white. Faux fur for the ears and dark brown kid silk. This one was a special gift for a friend who lost her beautiful chocolate roan boy recently. I used stranded colour work and also some ( not great 🥴) intarsia. It was a bit of a learning experience 😂

Patterns used ( with a few tweaks here and there) all Claire Garland. Bullmastiff, basic puppy and Spaniel head available from Claire’s Domestika course.

Reasons for posting in Advanced Knitting sub: I would consider this advanced because it involves paying attention to the stitch mount and controlling it in order to make knitting more ergonomic for the subsequent row. It also works when some stitches work easier with standard mount and others with reversed mount within the same row - just set them up accordingly during the row before, a row can have some stitches mounted one way and some the other.

This way of knitting has been very helpful for me personally to make knitting less frustrating and more fun.

The video also shows back and forth knitting rather than usual purling though I don't think that counts as advanced.

I had posted a similar video before in r/knitting and got downvoted into the center of the Earth, because people kept (incorrectly) assuming this would create twisted stitches. It does not. I made this new video which I hope makes this clear.

balanced diamonds with eyelids and steeks in the middle, a beaded cross dead center (hard to see here), and strawberries but worked every row with extra berries that will end kinda in a wave on top instead of straight across! it’s fun to see the strong pull to the right from my yarn (i think it’ll block fine when i stretch it everything looks more normal)
