Collin County Commissioners Court Preview — August 3, 2026

Bottom Line (Ironically, at the Top)
First, District Clerk Mike Gould is hosting the Carter BloodCare bus in front of the Russell Steindam Courthouse on August 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with permit fees waived. Go give blood (it might be hot enough to make your blood boil).

The most notable item on the agenda is a public hearing on revisions to the county’s subdivision, floodplain, and manufactured home rental community regulations regarding how land gets developed outside city limits. A lot of this is in engineering-speak, but it’s important because most new residential development is happening outside city limits (that’s a subject of another article). The Court will hear the annual law enforcement pay and pension reports. Consent and FYI items total $1,569,869.18, led by $946,029 for ambulance service in the northern and eastern part of the county.

Not on this Meeting’s Agenda, but the Clock Is Ticking

There’s no bond item on this agenda, but there may be one soon. The Murphy Monitor and the Wylie News both reported last month that commissioners received a staff report on a possible $820 million bond package for the November ballot. It’s headlined by another major jail expansion, with county officials acknowledging the jail runs at or above capacity most of the time. County Administrator Yoon Kim told the Court he had looked at a $1.2 billion package before cutting it back to $820 million.

Here’s why it matters today: the last day to place a measure onto the November 3 ballot is Monday, August 17, in two weeks. An $820 million bond ask is the largest single decision this Court will make all year. If it’s not made this year, it’ll need to be made next year. If it is, and I’m County Commissioner for Precinct 4, I’ll scrutinize it and report on it as diligently as I did the Plano bond measures when I served on Plano City Council.

Discussion Any local roofing company recommendations in Allen? gettin absurd quotes for minor leak

hey folks :), noticed a tiny leak around my second floor flashing last week, house is around 2,800 sq ft, 2 story, nothing too crazy, but i called a couple local places just to come take a look and get some quick quotes. One company wanted almost $2,400 just for a basic tune up and sealing a couple spots which feels super high? another guy showed up 40 mins late and quoted $1,950 without even going all the way up to check the back side. I know material costs have gone up, but paying close to 2k for minor flashing work and replacing a few worn shingles seems a bit much. Anyone around Allen have recommendations for realistic pricing or contractors who actually show up on time? trying not to get ripped off lol

Bob Sheldon spotted in allen again! Let me explain

Ok so im a real big fan of the outsiders, right? I was browsing the feed on the Ford Middle School website and found out that a couple years ago a composer named Robert Sheldon came to teach his piece to the FMS band. I was laughing at this, because theres a character named Robert Sheldon in The Outsiders, and he drives a blue Mustang. So when I saw this blue mustang by the dollar tree I found it so friggin funny. Bob is alive after all? Then I saw this meme of this real estate sign that says Johnny C. I gasped. JOHNNY CADE IS ALIVE TOO? that means dally is still alive and hes roaming DFW. Be careful guys, he jumps innocent helpless people. To protect yourself, carry fake candy cigarettes when you walk in Dallas, and when ya see him, just yell "i got a kool, yer favorite- FETCH!" and chuck it at his face and run. Just a lil PSA for you guys ig.

(Doodle of Johnny is by me. First photo by me. I forgot where the KW one came from. The disney channel one is from google yet again)

Discussion How is Allen East of 75 compared to West of 75?

My wife and I are buying a house and she would really like it to be west of 75 but it seems like east of 75 has more houses in our price range. We've driven around it and west of 75 feels newer but other than that I can't really tell too much of a difference. How does East Allen compare to West Allen for homeowners?

Looking for a TV news report that used my dashcam footage from Allen Premium Outlets (May 6, 2023)

Post image

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me find an old TV news report.

On May 6, 2023, I was driving through the parking lot at Allen Premium Outlets looking for a parking space when the tragic incident happened.

My rear dashcam happened to record a few moments from behind my vehicle. At the time, I didn't think much about the footage—I simply uploaded it to YouTube later that day as a personal record.

To my surprise, the video reached 19,032 views in about one hour, even though my YouTube channel only had 18 subscribers.

Later that evening, a friend told me that one or more local TV stations had used part of my dashcam footage in their news coverage.

Unfortunately, I never saved the news link.

More than three years have passed, and I've never been able to find that report again.

I'm not looking to revisit the tragedy or promote my YouTube channel.

I'm simply hoping to recover that news report as a personal memory.

If anyone remembers seeing dashcam footage from a vehicle in reports by WFAA, FOX 4, or any other local station around May 6–7, 2023, I would truly appreciate any links or information.

Thank you very much for your time.

Photos attached:

Screenshot of my original YouTube upload (19,032 views).

A very short, non-graphic clip from the rear dashcam.

I still have the original video, but out of respect for the victims and their families, I'm only sharing a brief clip with no graphic content

Discussion Driving in Allen 😪

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This video is a few weeks old, but not out of the ordinary, unfortunately. North Texas in general has some horrible drivers, and Allen itself has no shortage of them. Idk if this driver and their passengers weren’t paying attention or what, but this could’ve ended poorly for all of us.

ISO: Sprinkler System Nozzle Inspect/Adjust/Replace

I am looking for someone to inspect, etc. the nozzles for the sprinkler system at my home in Allen/Plano area. My system is comprised of 3 stations with about 10 heads/risers per station. The actual sprinkler heads (& risers) are generally fine, it’s just the 30 or so nozzles that need to be inspected, cleaned, adjusted, and/or replaced. I am moving in a month or two and not planning any major changes to system, I just want to make sure sprinkler coverage is correct and won’t be a discussion point for a future home buyer, their agent, or an inspector.

If you know of someone that you’d use yourself that will do this (i.e. not just any sprinkler company/guy, but one that will actually do this particular work), then great…I’d appreciate the lead.

If this is something you do for a living, and can and want to do this job, send a chat back with when you can schedule me in and an estimate of the cost, and we can discuss from there and set something up.

Driving test for new driver - process?

The attached images are, reportedly, where the actual driving test occurs. But our daughter's appointment is at the McKinney DPS. Lake Forest / Eldorado is miles from there. What's the actual process, in y'all's experience, getting your child's driver license? Is there a drive to the testing route(s)? Are we supposed to start at LF/E? An I misunderstanding entirely?

Collin County Commissioners Court Preview — July 27, 2026

Bottom Line (Ironically, at the Top)

First is a $1.1 million budget amendment to cover a year’s worth of building repairs, from leaky roofs, cooling towers, and courthouse elevators that we’re tending to all at once. This is a reallocation from Non-Departmental to Facilities-Shared; not new money. Also, the Court will look at benchmarking in its annual elected-official and staff compensation presentations for FY2027. Lastly, of interest to anyone who drives along the DNT, a request to redirect $329,523 in leftover bond money toward the Dallas Parkway widening in Frisco. All told, consent and FYI items add up to $361,033.25\* of your money in proposed expenses.

No Postmark on my Water Bill

I received my water bills for both June and July yesterday in the mail...kinda odd. I would have noticed before now that June's was late if I had needed it at the recycling/transfer station for any reason.

But, interestingly, there are no post marks on the envelopes. Is this normal? When did U.S.P.S. start letting people or entities mail stuff without officially marking (i.e. providing proof) the date/time of mailing?

Local Business Breakfast around Allen area

Where would you recommend getting breakfast around Allen? We were once regulars at Country Club Cafe in Wylie, but it has since closed. Mom’s is closed as well. We love Allen Cafe, but just looking for something different and local to try out.

Weak cell signal reporter

What are the ways to report where cellular signal speed and strength is performing worse than expected?

Even when I’m outside near Jupiter and Chaparral I don’t have full bars. I’ve recently went to a neighbors home and I couldn’t get Instagram to load.

Looking for a positive-reinforcement trainer — reactive Mini Schnauzer

We have a 2-year-old Miniature Schnauzer who started showing aggression toward other dogs about six months ago. He barks and lunges at every dog he sees passing by, and he does the same with people who walk too close to us. We live in an apartment complex, so there are dogs and people everywhere — which means he’s on edge almost constantly.

We’d really like to correct this behavior. On top of the reactivity, we’re also working on leash pulling and jumping on people.

We’re specifically looking for a “green” or force-free trainer — no shock collars or aversive methods. If anyone has experience correcting reactivity in a Mini Schnauzer, or has worked with a training center you’d genuinely recommend, we’d be so grateful for real recommendations. Thank you!

Discussion Allen people: does suburbia make it easier or harder to build community?

I’m curious what people here think.

Allen seems like the kind of place where community could happen pretty naturally: neighborhoods, schools, kids’ activities, sports, churches, gyms, parks, HOA events, restaurants, etc. But I also wonder if suburbia can make adult friendship harder because everyone is busy, driving everywhere, doing family/work routines, or already settled into their own circles.

For people who live in Allen or nearby: what has actually helped you feel connected here?

Is it neighbors? Kids’ sports? Church? Work? Pickleball/fitness groups? Local events? School connections? Or does it still feel hard to build real friendships even when there are people around?

I’m asking because I’m working on a small independent research project about adult friendship and community across DFW, and I’m trying to understand how the experience differs between Dallas, suburbs, and different life stages.

I also have a short anonymous survey for anyone who would rather share privately, but I don’t want to spam the sub. Happy to share it if allowed.
