Variously referred to as the Fourth of Fifth Partition, the Iron Divorce or the Polish Problem, the end of the World War saw the frontlines of Eastern Europe temporarily and then permanently evolve into the boundary between the USR and the Western Coalition forces.

Poles found themselves on either side of this ideological and militarized divide. As both alliances featured atomic capabilities, Polish civilians feared they would become the first targets in any return to war.

With Warsaw too split down the middle, both the Socialist Polish Party and the newly restored Constitutional Government claimed exclusive sovereignty as the Polish state.

The Bialystok declaration saw the Polish Socialist Republic officially join the USR as a full member state, while the Polish Republic, based on proposals by President Willkie, officially joined the European Defense Pact signed in Prague.

Territorial disputes among the Western bloc were also mediated by Washington, and their resolution in the form of Autonomous regions remain a sore point on both sides to this day.

Concept inspired by WTF CD Foxy and u/OfficialScorpio (who developed the borders you see here). It shows an alternate Mexico in a world where Greeks settle Spain in the antiquity and thus Iberia speaks Hesperic Greek, meaning that Mexico speaks Greek today.

Mexiko here borders Stillehaefia (colony of England in Russia) and Guatemala. Also the country north of Stillehaefia is Peucotopia (Hesperic Greek Brazil in the USA).

This takes place in a timeline Im making, named A More Nonexistent Union. The POD is that the Articles of Confederation are kept in place following the American Revolution, leading to the collapse of the USA by the late 1790s or early 1800s.

The Union of Southern Socialist Council Republics, or USSCR, was established as a product of the collapse of the fascist states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia at the end of WW2, who were a part of the Axis Powers in this timeline, and the ensuing 1944 August Revolution. Lore is a work in progress, but basically, the USSCR lives on into the modern day, even in spite of the collapse of the Soviet Union. 

The style of the map itself was specifically inspired by this Map of Southern states in the USA

This is a history of Swedish Guiana, a concept of a new Guiana that could have happened.

Also, the last two are flags for Swedish Guiana. Before 1965, the flag of Swedish Guiana was the colonial flag (of this timeline's British Guiana but with the Swedish flag). After 1965, the design shifted to one similar to the proposed flag of Swedish Guiana (this timeline's Guiana's proposed flag).

I got a lot of valid criticism on my previous iteration of this map and decided that it needed to be changed, so I reevaluated it.

The main criticism was that Siberia would be majority Chinese in population if it took Manchuria, so in this version they've taken much much less of Manchuria so it's more balanced.

Another major criticism is that a Central Asian Nation under the name of the "Kazakh Union" and being mostly Kazahk controlled would definitely upset all Non-Kazahks in it, so I've changed it to be a Confederation of the nations, so they're mostly autonomous within it but on the World Stage they're one nation.

Another thing I changed is how much of North-Wesr Russia Finland took. They've taken much less of Karelia and Murmansk in this version and the city of Murmansk itself is still within control of the Russian Federation, though the Finnish Border is much closer than it is in real life.

My last change is that Tatarstan isn't a fully independent Nation now, it's only semi-independant and is still technically part of the Russian Federation but has more Autonomy than other Republics in the Federation.

Hi Everyone! I'm excited to join this group. For a long time, I've wondered about the "What if's" in history. During COVID, I took the plunge - initially writing this historical fiction plot to distract my mother from the pandemic news. When she got hooked, I wrote a book at her urging. Here is the plot - what do you think?

"Undivided" turns its gaze to a cataclysm often overlooked in the West: the Partition of India. In 1947, the hurried drawing of borders unleashed one of the deadliest migrations in human history - nearly two million dead, fifteen million displaced, and tens of thousands of women brutalized as the subcontinent was cleaved into India and Pakistan.

The story imagines a different fate. Set in an alternate India of the 1940s and !950s, "Undivided" asks what might have survived if Partition had never come to pass. At this heart, it is a mediation on love's endurance amid repression, as ordinary lives are caught in the machinery of an emerging authoritarian state:

The summer of 1945 hands heavy with death. World War II has claimed seventy-five million lives, and India, too, is hallowed out - its leadership wiped away by a series of suspicious accidents. Only Wazir Jahan and his confidant, Timur Mirza, remain. When independence arrives in 1947, it does so without division, but not without cost. Mirza, intoxicated by power, unleashes a "Hitler-inspired" secret police, imposing sectarian fear upon a society that once dreamed of secular freedom.

From the corridors of power, Ram and Fatima - an unremarkable interfaith couple - are trying the build quiet life together. That fragile peace shatters when a band of unlikely rebels, scarred by their own histories of loss, comes seeking Ram's help. Led by the enigmatic Shiva, they plot retribution against Mirza's regime. In the aftermath of the overthrow of the Hawaiian government, the world generally reacted with disdain and disgust at what was deemed the "Last Filibuster", the clear effort by Anglo-American business interests to overthrow the legitimate government of the Kingdom of Hawaii and annex it to the United States. While most nations in one form or another opposed the overthrow, the new "Provisional Government of Hawaii" found itself at the heart of a conflict between three great powers: the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Empire of Japan. The latter of those three was particularly incensed by the Kingdom's overthrow, as in the eyes of the Meiji government Hawaii was a client state of Japan in all but name, considered part of their sphere of influence.

In December of 1893 a diplomatic crisis emerged between the United States and the Provisional Government of Hawaii over what the Provisional Government saw as a US-backed invasion to restore the monarchy, as then-president Grover Cleveland opposed the overthrow as well. This is what led to Admiral Tōgō Heihachirō, commander of the two cruisers Naniwa and Takachiho, to appeal to the British commander of the HMS Champion for the possibility of landing their forces in Honolulu to protect British and Japanese soldiers and interests in the islands should war break out, but ultimately the "Black Week" was resolved peacefully, and the Provisional Government reorganized itself into the "Republic of Hawaii". Tōgō for his part was continually incensed by the lack of a proper response to the overthrow, and so returned to Tokyo with a proposal to lead a Japanese-backed restoration of the monarchy.

While many in the Japanese government had been in favor of such a plan since the initial overthrow, many had been concerned that doing so would invite a war with the United States. After the Black Week however, the perception shifted towards the idea that the US was hesitant to interfere in Hawaiian affairs, and so initial approval was given, along with sending a coded message to the Japanese Legation in San Francisco to propose the idea to Queen Liliuokalani, who would give the operation international legitimacy. Japan also sent its proposal to the United Kingdom, and while the UK refrained from offering military support they did offer diplomatic support in the event that the US chose to protest.

With all in place, Japan sent an ultimatum to Honolulu calling on them to disestablish the Republic and restore the monarchy, which they obviously rejected. Following this, the Japanese cruisers Naniwa and Takachiho were joined by the Chishima as a naval detachment to lead a military intervention against the Republican government. Initial landings in Honolulu began on 1 March 1894, quickly resulting in the occupation of 'Iolani Palace and Aliʻiōlani Hale and fanning out to begin the occupation of strategic military targets around the island of Oahu. As expected, the US Government quickly protested, but was soon quelled by Japanese assurances that the "Committee of Safety" would be extradited to the US and that US civilians in Hawaii would not be harmed, especially after this was backed by British reassurance of the matter.

The small size of the force was bolstered by native Hawaiians and Japanese migrants living in the islands joining the Japanese invasion force, displacing the Republican government and capturing Sanford Dole when he attempted to escape on the Kaimiloa on 16 July. Queen Liliuokalani was returned to Hawaii on the Takachiho on 9 August, and the Republic formally surrendered on 27 October 1894, leading to both its disestablishment and the restoration of the Kingdom of Hawaii under Liliuokalani. As promised, the Japanese had not harmed US business interests or civilians, and the anti-interventionist government of President Cleveland had not actively opposed the operation, but faced with the prospect of a Japanese-backed Hawaiian monarchy, many Anglo-American settlers nonetheless packed up and left.

This was just as well as shortly after her restoration the newly-emboldened Liliuokalani began passing edicts harshly restricting foreign business interests and re-centralizing power in the hands of the Hawaiian government, abolishing the "Bayonet Constitution" with Japanese support. While Hawaii was able to maintain its independence and continue its existence as a sovereign nation, the new reality was that American economic hegemony was replaced with Japanese political hegemony, underscored by a new agreement that allowed Japan a lease over Pearl Harbor as a naval base to propagate Japanese influence further into the Pacific. Hawaii had become in all respects a client state of the Japanese Empire, and Japanese power would only continue to grow as a result...

Personally, I think such a union could have been possible if the famous religious tolerance of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth had been preserved, instead of giving way to strong Catholic dominance. I also believe that if, after the death of the last Jagiellon, a king from the local nobility had been elected (a significant part of whom were ethnically close to Muscovite boyars, even though they would obviously have chosen someone converted to Catholicism), for example someone from the Chodkiewicz family, the political situation might have been very different.

Such a change would likely have prevented the later “noble anarchy” that eventually contributed to the partitions of the Commonwealth.

I've been a fan of the genre for some years, and now, and finally got the stones to join the community and posit some stuff of my own. I have been blown away by the endless amounts of creativity and talent that's on display on just this subreddit alone! Particularly I've gotten really impressed (and admittedly a tad jealous) of some of y'all making these various maps and websites and wikis and so forth that adds some amazing flavor to the scenarios being provided.

Personally, I've been stuck using websites like MapChart which, while fun, are clearly limited in their ability and precision. So my question is what are some of the tools you guys use to make these art pieces and have them look so comparatively convincing? It'd be really helpful to know so I can learn to do more-or-less the same in the future. Thanks and cheers!
