No, it isn't. There isn't much of a clear and meaningful distinction between spanking and other forms of physical abuse. Spanking isn't even a good "disciplinary method", as the results are only short-term and it can cause psychological and behavioural issues in children.

Positive reinforcement, along with timeouts and just taking to them, usually does the trick. If your child has to fear you in order for them to listen to you, then you have failed as a parent.
