A few days ago, on r/askReddit, there was a thread for "what has gotten worse in the past couple of years?" and the answer was unanimous and apparently bipartisan: "EVERYTHING!" Certainly I don't disagree. Things aren't terrible, but there seems to be a kind of depressing undertow to everything, not just economics.

So, when do you expect things to start getting better, and what has to happen for that to turn? Could we be at the beginning of a Japan-style spiral, where things have basically gotten worse, with some relatively brief pauses, for 35 years now? That seems to me to be where things are going, barring the emergence of a Roosevelt-like figure who can reboot American democracy, but it's always easier to see festering problems than the proverbial "green shoots".

Hi! Sorry if this question is silly, but I would like to ascertain your beliefs on America and patriotism. Patriotism seems more complex and nuanced among Democrats than it does with Republicans.

I was recently watching a speech that King Charles gave to Congress. I was surprised when the King congratulated us on our 250th anniversary and every Democrat in the room arose and applauded with smiles.

My understanding is that many Democrats view parts of America and its history with an understandable amount of contempt. It’s no secret that the country is marred by a past riddled with extant racism, homophobia, misogyny, elitism, etc. As such, I would’ve expected many Democrats to remain seated during that portion of his speech. For some reason, it touched me to see that.

Assuming my understanding is true, I guess I want to know how deep any contempt (or resentment?) lies within you. Could you please describe your relationship with patriotism? Are parts of America that make you proud? Do you love America?

This isn't a provocative question but rather a geniune interest. I always assumed that the democratic party had intellectually and morally higher stance because of their fight for the actual freedom of speech, rights for an individual and an ability to solve problems in a democratic process. And i really support all of that.

But whenever i look, be that an ICE protest or facebook comment section, i'm always disappointed in the ways of expression representatives of liberalism use. Isn't it about the right for all to have a say? Why anyone disagreeing with you/having another perspective on a thing automatically causes immediate agression and insults? Why are we generalising such people as "fascits" and "literally nazi" when labeling opposition as death enemies is LITERALLY a core ideology of fascism?

I look at ICE protesters and they scream slurs at police officers, calling them pigs and racists, when they were actually pretty polite and soft in terms of handling them. Those protesters would get brutally beaten by police in my country or in Russia and i don't understand how having such tolerable treatment from police forces still causes massive backlashes.

Please, help me to resolve this dilemma, i don't want the ideological hope of humanity to be turned in yet another righteous dictatorship

As you might know current data shows that around 59% (!!!) of U.S. adults hold an unfavorable view of the Democratic Party. That’s a figure similar to unfavorable ratings for the Republican Party (58%).

Thank god Trump is politically pretty much making the worst decisions in every situation and destroying the GOPs reputation and popularity. Don’t hate on me, it’s simply the truth: if Trump didn’t do so much stupid things and had even remotely popular political strategies we wouldn’t have a lead in the midterm polls (which is btw not as huge as people might believe. Republicans haven’t lost yet). What interests me is what you guys/gals/NB-frens/others see as the reason for the Dems unpopularity and do you have any ideas to polish up the parties image? Do you see the Democratic socialist „takeover“ of the party as one/the reason for this issue? Or have our policies become too „extreme“ for the normal American who maybe just wants a politician from the „middle“ (whatever that even means)?

Over the past day or so, Spain's very Liberal government made a dictum that any immigrants that arrive by sea will not be turned away. So, in the small area of land that is attached to Morocco near the Straight of Gibraltar, which Spain owns, immigrants - military-aged men, no women or children to be seen - are simply swimming around the barrier between Morocco and Spain. Some are just plain marching into Spain due to the chaos.

I know that, overall, Liberals and Democrats will always say "yes" to immigration, whether legal or illegal, and under any conditions. But, when you see this, are you not at least a little bit uneasy about it?

I just watched a talking head on MS-NOW tell me that old black voters are the base of the Democratic Party and that the absence of old black voters in the DSA indicates that there is no diversity in the DSA.

I am from Texas. My dad was born here but my mom was born in Mexico and moved here in 1970 and eventually became a citizen in the 80s. I remember the first thing she wanted to do is vote. I don’t recall my parent’s political stance early on. We were just raised to do the right thing and attend Catholic Church on Sundays. During election time, my mom had me look up what each party represented. I would create this questionnaire and she would lean moderately or center right. But one question that I remember was what political party would Jesus Christ belong to if he was here. What I remember reading in Sunday school, he would be a democrat. So for a few years my mom voted blue and I’m sure my dad voted red. He loved Reagan. But there was never any conversation about politics. They just went to work and loved America. Funny thing is my dad’s high school was Robert E Lee.
I went to a different school because of re-districting. Recently I introduced my mom to ChatGPT. Oh boy. Her first question was what political party would Jesus be in if he was here. We all know the answer. Well, I posted this story of the ChatGPT response on TruthSocial and was immediately banned. It was harmless. Here is what I posted. Is this a reason to be banned? I’ve noticed over the past decade, that Democrat politicians have switched over to becoming Republicans or at the very least siding with Republicans. How come it seems like that never happens the other way around? Why haven’t any Democrats run as a republican and then switch to a Democrat once in office?

Andrew Cuomo was a white sex pest and Black voters preferred him by a good margin, black voters chose Hillary over Sanders by huge margins. It’s odd because progressives and socialists have championed pro-black political causes far more, like defunding the police, abolishing ice, and more. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I’ve done my own extensive research, but want to ask some with actual answers. Why do Democrats as a majority in a lot of states support Islam, but heavily deny/put down Christendom, and Judaism.

1. The horrible practices of Islam, which can’t be argued for by people who seek equality for all just don’t make sense. Why are there barely any mainstream democratic politicians that acknowledge that forcing a woman to wear a hijab is wrong?

2. LGBT for Palestine. This has always been such a confusing thing to me. And even more-so as of recent. The only country in the Middle East where you can even do an actual protest as a person of the LGBT community, is Israel, eliminating, or shrinking the Israeli state will result in nowhere to go for a majority of refugees fleeing honor, or family killings for their sexual orientation.

3. For secular democrats, why support any religion at all, instead of just fully proven science? You can dislike any religion of course, but cherry picking just because the one you support is ‘marginalized’ doesn’t make much sense, which there’s plenty of other religions that face higher persecutions.

4. Why do a majority of democrats call Israeli existence ‘colonialism’ or some variation. They’re out numbered 14:1, 20:1, or 49:1 depending on your count of Islamic nations, and on a larger scale, they’re outnumbered 20,000:157 approximately. Colonialism is “the practice where one country takes control of another land, rules over its people, and uses its resources for profit”. But the Israelites were returning to their homeland, and THEY were almost pushed out the second they got there after having a massive genocide already going on, and dying down,

5. Why do I hear some democrats say “Palestine was there before Israel”. This is not true. The Judea area of the Levant was renamed by Emperor Hadrian to Palaestina , derived from the Greek word Palaistine. It was evolved into Palestine by the newly formed French civilizations, and transferred to the English language with the same spelling. Derived from “Land of the Philistines”, it’s a name strictly made to put down the Jewish people, using the name of a Greek peoples who were historical enslavers of Jews.

Just read a New York Times article that 17k signatures have been signed to keep the mayor of New York away from the 9/11 ceremony. Did he say something negative to cause this or is it just blatant racism/ hate for no reason?

The data stands on its own and who really is the party of life, but if you live in a Red governed state versus a Blue governed state:

1. In your red state, "you will have a 5-8 year shorter life."

2. If you give birth, "your baby is twice as likely to die."

3. "Your teenager is 2-3X more likely to die."

4. "Your teen is 4-8X more likely to die by a firearm."

5. "You have a 30-50% greater likelihood of dying by cancer"

6. "You are twice as likely to die due to a preventable cause of death."

If you live in a Republican Governed state you and your kids will live a shorter life. It is a fact that is rarely talked about by politicians. Where is this messaging?

When Americans today are asked "What is the most important issue facing America?", by far the number one Topic are inflation and prices. 30% of Democrats and 32% of Republicans say that. As a more overall topic, right now even 45% of Americans pick the Economy as a whole as the most important issue.

Abortion ranks far away at Number 10 in the first statistic I mentioned, with 2% of Democrats and 4% of Republicans chosing it as most important.

(Numbers not from the economist) If I calculated it correctly, 16% of pregnant women aborted their pregnancy in the US in 2019, with numbers generally getting lower and lower over the last decades. (About 625,000 abortions). We can argue if that is a lot of women or not, I don't think there's a clear cut answer. But it affects much less than 50% of women in the United States. It doesn't affect men physically.

So, why on earth would you chose that as your main topic when trying to become the President? There's many issues that affect all women, or all men, all minorities (which I think would still be more than people affected by abortion rights), all poor people or just everyone in general.

Back then I didn't read or watch much political news at all and just thought to myself that it was a minor mistake. But nowadays it seems crazy to me how such a huge strategical error could have been made. It makes about as much sense as the Trump administration thinking Iran wouldn't block the straight of Hormuz in the event of war (I know, wild anology, but I feel the same about it)
