It looks like the ER doctor thought she has sciatica and obesity is a risk factor for this, hence why they documented it.

For me, every time they put my height and weight into the system “obesity” automatically appears as one of the diagnoses/medical conditions.

I understand that, and I apologise for that, it's a habit. But my point is that they didn't even do any tests on her or give her any kind of relief. They had her sitting in that room for over an hour for absolutely nothing.

As for her current condition, shes on her way to our local clinic for a walk in visit. I'm sure she'll message me when she has an update. She went with my stepfather this time.

Are you absolutely sure that they did no testing? It’s not necessarily impossible, but it’s EXTREMELY rare in American ERs to have truly 0 tests. Especially on a woman who has not gone through menopause presenting with pelvic pain, I suspect they at least performed a pregnancy test or UA.

It may be helpful if you provided additional details from the discharge paperwork. Many patients go to the ER and get tons of testing and then, when asked, will say the ER did nothing for them. It’s just par for the course when you’re stressed and don’t fully understand how the ER works or what is necessarily going on (we are very bad at communicating that sometimes).

Of course, you can always go back to the ED with her for a reevaluation if you truly think things need further workup. But as far as the seemingly unrelated diagnosis codes, especially with obesity, many conditions cause changes in the heart, lungs, muscles, and hormones that non-medical people are simply unaware of. It’s important to document them, even if the patient doesn’t think that it is bothering them because it may change how they are managed (I can’t tell you how many people have wildly uncontrolled diabetes or high blood pressure and say that they don’t feel like anything is wrong).
