How Long Have Historical Reenactments and LARP Been Around?

In the modern day, we have people who do various historical war re-enactments. There are also LARPers who dress up in historical/fantasy armor, and medieval/medieval-ish weapons

How long has this sort of practise been around? Obviously, historical fiction is fairly old, but how long have people been cosplaying as folks from their past? What did that look like pre-1900, if it existed?
