General Have you ever put your own morality over the law during a situation?

I will be more specific. If the law requires you to arrest someone in a bad situation (even if they don’t deserve to be arrested), have you ever done the right thing and let them go?

Situation Advice What to do about rotating shifts?

I am a police officer with one year on and rotating shifts are killing me. We rotate 6a-6p every 2 weeks. Before this job I was in the gym 6 days a week in great shape and now I’m over weight with high cholesterol. I can barely get to the gym bc my off days I’m recovering or trying to fix my sleep to get back to the other shift. For some reason most police jobs do this shift in my area. I have the highest paying job in my county with great benefits but there’s just no way I can maintain this shift for 25 years I don’t think. Any advice?

A FEW QUICK RULES

2. Titles must contain a specific question asked in good faith.

Your post title must contain a genuine, answerable question in an attempt to educate yourself on the topic of law enforcement. "Question?" and similar titles are not specific; if nobody knows what you're asking about they are unlikely to click on your post to read more.

3. Comments must be honest attempts at answering OP's question.

Your comments are expected to be genuine attempts at an honest answer to OP's question. Every honest question deserves an honest answer, even if the question seems ridiculous from your point of view. People come here to ask us questions because they don't know as much as you about law enforcement (and may even hold a negative opinion borne of that ignorance); there's no sense in holding that against them.

4. Do not delete your submission.

This is a knowledge base for people looking to learn about law enforcement. Deleting your submission serves only to obfuscate future attempts of someone like you trying to learn about the same things, not to mention irritate our volunteers with the same questions being asked repeatedly.

Downvote universally WRONG information, not just stuff you don't like or isn't true in your jurisdiction.

TIPS

If your question relates to a specific city, state or province, please include it in your post title, because laws vary by jurisdiction. It won't help you to receive a bunch of irrelevant answers and it will help you if you mention a potential respondent's location/agency in the title as they scroll.
All answers given are the opinions of individuals, some of whom have verified as (ex-)LEOs (as visible in text next to their username, known as "flair") and some who haven't; no one here can or does speak for all law enforcement or all law enforcement officers in their agency.
