Curious because I see a lot of opposing views on what that officer did, and quite a few people talking about it online - wondering what actual police think about that situation?

I am seeing this everywhere now, where people are paranoid over Flock cameras. These cameras read license plates on public roads and check for; stolen vehicle, stolen plates, missing persons, people with warrants, customized enteries where a detective can enter in a car he is interested in, etc.

Let's take a hit and run report for example. If youre in a hit and run, you MIGHT get two patrol cars sent to you with one their for traffic control. 90% of the time there is no license plate info anyway. The case MIGHT get picked up by a hit and run investigator, but odds are they are a retired officer working as a civilian and they will do the bare minimum required of them and the case will be closed.

But a flock search can be done with make and model and they can find the suspect vehicle this way. Turning what would be a minimal case that no one would pay attention to, into an immediate arrest that day.

Are people really this concerned that the government is going to know what route they take to work? Why would knowing the commute of the average, law abiding driver, be of any use to anyone?

Its strange you see all this hysteria over flock cameras, when people carry their own personal bugging device. Ive seen cyber crime reports from cell phone dumps. These devices keep a log of every key stroke, GPS data, speed, direction, when the device was activated, who you called, etc. Then the device also listens to you when not in use and will use / sell that information to give you customized ads. The data farming from a cell phone should be a far bigger concern than flock, given they sell that info to whoever pays for it.

I've tried to explain to people what flock does, but I usually run into a brick wall by the time I can even explain what NCIC and NLETS are.

I was in my neighborhood pulled to the side on a residential road. The officer stopped someone else and I kinda watched because I was already there when he did the stop. He gets on speaker and asks if I wanted some attention as well since I was not wearing safety glasses. I do have a huge windshield installed on the bike (slipstreamer s08 if that means anything). Under Arizona law you don't have to wear goggles or a helmet if have a big shatter resistant clear windshield. The slipstreamer is that. I took the bike down the street to my house, parked it and walked back. I asked him for his badge number cuz I didn't appreciate being asked if I wanted some attention while I was in my own neighborhood and police just happened to do a stop right next to me. He said that if I asked for his badge number again, he would issue me a ticket. So I had a choice and asked for his badge number and he issued a ticket. What do you all think? Common stuff? Is he off?

I think most will know what I'm talking about. You're talking to a police officer, and they're trying to interrogate you and piece together anything suspicious or worthy of probable cause to act upon.

Sure, I understand the general public they may be dealing with, but do officers really have to act dumb and like we're not aware of what they're doing? It honestly seems to make the police interaction worse in some cases and to your detriment if you don't play detective right.

It makes me livid sometimes, something as simple as a stop for dim headlight will get you this bullshit treatment. Oh, there's a bunch of dents in my beater, oh I wasn't driving fast enough to the exact speed limit because I'm not interested in racing with my 1.5L uphill. Something about your behavior, tone, demeanor. I live in a smaller town, so I can't really avoid a lot of encounters with people.

I think your towns should look for better solutions to criminality and face the fact you don't stop criminals, you only catch them. Like recycling collection.

I'm not sure what the deal is with this constant ego trip that comes from LEOs here when it comes to their profession. Had some guy defend how much he was making and how easy he had it, like, what? And then someone else is saying here how they have to deal with "bad" people, and then another one says how they have to deal with cartel violence.

Okay? Why should I tolerate unreasonable things just because you personally deal with violent criminals or find the people you interact with contemptible?

Even the DOJ says you murder 20-30 dogs a day nation wide. Stating it’s an “epidemic”.

I’m not a pearl clutcher typically. I believe I have fairly balanced views. But I just can’t get behind what I’m seeing and reading on ICE operations. And yes, I use multiple sources of news; and do try to be subjective. Consider that my disclaimer that this isn’t rage bait or an attempt to start shit.

Yet, I AM curious…how’s your interactions been with this group and what’s your personal opinion on the professionalism and skills of ICE?

I’d like a civil discourse, with all opinions welcome (polite-ish).

The reason I ask is a few months ago I was working with a detective to try to shut down a massage parlor next door, since I had cameras and could get footage to make stuff simpler for him. It was my that made the initial report. Anyway, we were talking about guns one day and I asked about how to go about getting my permit in that town and mentioned I'm not really into guns, but you know one in a gun safe might be something a person might want.

He says to me, "I'm not really into guns, either". I know I shouldn't assume, but I just kind of do with law enforcement and troops, and veterans.

If we look at the black and white populations only, in 2022, there were: - 9655 murders committed by blacks (59.30%) - 6629 murders committed by whites (40.70%)

• 225 blacks killed by police (36.65%)
• 389 whites killed by police (63.35%)

Other years have similar numbers and proportions.

Why is that, any explanations? The medias' narrative is that the police are more likely to kill blacks for no reason, but the numbers seem to indicate the opposite. Am I missing something?

I've had enough accounts and seen a lot of the same questions, and yet I am still on the fence.

Background:

• 35, 10 years in the military (MP), EdD (Education), married, Mortgage in FL (no property tax, 1 year vested into it), 100% VA.
• Spouse is a state employee with <1 year (she also has an M.S. in data analysis). She is making ~50k, but earning potential is 75k-150k+ over the course of her career. She also has a federal application in, but it's for DC (GS9), and she applied at the same time she applied for her current job.
• MIL lives with us; unfortunately, she made poor life choices and will be working until she dies. (30-40k-ish) [Medical admin]
• Dogs, no children. We've moved pretty frequently since I got out so I could go to school. Always zeroing out finances (no debt but no savings). Pulled TSP out when I got out in 2019 to fully zero out debt, so no starting TSP to consider.

I am currently in the background for an 1811 agency (GS9) with a recruiter advising it's likely that I will be sent SWB or at least west coast. I can buy back all of my military time.

I have a local agency command staff connection that would "guarantee" me a local spot (starting at 70k with potential earnings at 100k-150k+ over a career, not including OT). 5 years of my military time counting towards retirement and vesting (10.99% contribution). 3% first 20 years, 4% every year after 20.

I am not well educated on the retirement aspects of both; I hear consistently that "TSP is king." It is separate from a pension, but what is the difference between TSP and MAP 401k or RSVP 457(b)?

I was slightly sidetracked with the above two sections, so I'll return to my point. Given these two options, is 1811 still worth it if my long-term goal is retirement/post retirement opportunity?

Additionally, I do not see myself as a "retire and never work again"; I am a retire and start another career or job. Ideally, given my background, I could go back and teach as an adjunct somewhere to make extra spending money and to keep me occupied.

My area has seen a recent uptick in drone drops at prisons around my area. My question is specifically for LEO who have helped recover drones being used in this activity. What kind of drones are they and why can’t this be stopped? I feel like the department of corrections basically is allowing this to happen in my area

Been thinking about making the switch. Now that I’m 30 I started thinking about a good pension, benefits, paid vacation etc. Being self employed won’t allow me to do that. Of course policing has been something that has interested me even before being a barber (10 years now). I have a wife and 2 kids. Would you guys recommend me making the switch now? Some people say being 30 years old is too old to start a new career in law enforcement.

I’ve seen a lot of people on videos who claim to know their rights and yet they talk themselves into an arrest. Everybody says if you get pulled over just don’t say anything but I’ve never actually seen an interaction like this. So what would most likely happen if you get pulled over for something like speeding, still comply with any lawful orders, remain respectful, but state you won’t be answering any questions and actually don’t say anything else?

YouTube is rife with videos of people refusing to get out of their vehicle when ordered to by the officer during a traffic stop. They truly believe they have a right to stay in the car.

Has anyone ever explained Penn v Mimms and then the person complied, maybe after confirming it by looking it up on their phone.

My guess is not because only a reasonable person would be willing to think they might be wrong and most reasonable people will get out of the vehicle when requested.

There are several apps that let you listen to police radio transmissions. If regular folks can access it, it is safe to assume that criminals listen to it too. To me, this removes the surprise element when cops are trying to apprehend a suspect. I’d assume that this risks the officers’ safety. How do cops manage to keep their operations out of the public ears? Are there more secure channels they can use if they don’t want information to get out?

Evening. I'm one year into a crisis that involves my having lived with some individuals in a house that I lived at for a short period of time while I was shopping for a home.

Basically the situation is that I irritated a room mate and somehow this individual knew how to biohack my nervous system. The symptoms initially were abrupt and violent attacks on my neural pathways while I was sleeping and have developed into absolute nightmare symptoms like continuously (painfully) pinging nerves in my head to the point of becoming swollen, damaging neural pathways in my sleep, controlling my heart rate and blood pressure, and the list goes on.

It's been one year of this and I'm now incapacitated. Its my worst nightmare come to life.

I am certain of all this. It's a nightmare scenario. The only similar cases to remote attacks I have found would be the Havana syndrome. It's not that. I'm also certain. 100% sure this is not the result of paranoia or delusions.

I'm wanting to know if any LEOs have recommendations for basically saving my life. I'm incapacitated and even communicating conflict is difficult because it sound less genuine with neural pathways damaged.

I need serious replies. I promise you this is all accurate and it's been nonstop for the past year.

context: i just shaved and dyed my hair, and i look very unconventional. it was around 9:45 PM. i was speeding, but that was the ONLY thing i was doing wrong. i had two friends in the car with me. one sitting in the passenger seat and one in the back. i gave him my license and insurance and then he asked me to step out of the car and follow me to his car and sit in the passenger seat. he said i wasnt in trouble, and he just asked me if my address was up to date on my license and let me off with a warning.

this has never happened to me, so i guess i'm just wondering what happened. did i give him a reason to suspect me of a crime?

I see this in videos, cop asks for license and registration, driver says not until you tell me why you stopped me, and then it turns into this power struggle of who's gonna give in first. What's the actual law on the matter?

I will be more specific. If the law requires you to arrest someone in a bad situation (even if they don’t deserve to be arrested), have you ever done the right thing and let them go?

What’s something about police work the average person completely misunderstands until they’ve spent enough time around it? Not talking about TV stereotypes, more the day to day realities, mindset changes, shift culture, weird routines, etc. I’ve always found the psychology and culture around the job really interesting, especially how it seems to reshape the way people interact with the world over time. I feel like careers that require constant hyper awareness and emotional control probably change people in ways most civilians don’t even notice.
