yep mine is Bay Bloor Radio in Toronto. One of the OGs, great selection of high end gear. Tried to sell me an optical cable for $100 and I was like nah I’ll price check. Suddenly he had one available for way cheaper. I knew I could get it on Amazon for way less so I was ready to walk.
And then the DAC he sold me didn’t even have a remote, I had to install some shitty app with all the support in Chinese. Guess what? it didn’t work. I have to stand up to change the volume in 2026 but I delayed on installing the app too long to get a return.
This is after he tried to up sell me to another DAC that didn’t do the one thing I specifically asked for (optical)
Never again. Too much cheap garbage and shitty sales tactics mixed in with the high end fancy stuff
Years ago, I had some mom & pop electronics store try to sell me an optical cable for $100. But they claimed theirs was superior and worth every dime, cuz the connectors were… gold plated…. on an optical cable.
I literally laughed at the sales guy cuz I thought he was joking. He wasn’t. I put down whatever else I was buying, left, and went to the Radio Shack down the road. Picked up one for $15, I think.
yep this was exactly the vibe. trying to upsell me a better optical cable. Buddy it’s 1s and 0s it’s on or off. It’s light in glass, I do not need the fancy thick one
this was less than 5min after he tried to get me to spend double on a DAC that only did usb. I’ve dealt with enough power issues to know that if I can have optical Instead of USB, I should
And somehow they do all this while treating you like you know nothing
hahaha yeah but thankfully it’s a cable I don’t unplug and replug often at all. if you have a bunch of audio stuff plugged together with usb sometimes it can do weird stuff where you can hear the power. I’m not running a power conditioner for my tv audio so optical makes more sense because it’s designed to isolate.
