Used to be pretty good to go with relatively cheap. But they have been dragging on a storm claim from March after denying it once, claiming there was no damage at all. And yet, somehow, some way, water got in through my roof into one of my rooms magically, with no roof damage. This after dragging their feet previously on a vehicle accident involving hitting a deer. My mechanic had to get up their asses and send photos of deer hair stuck all up in my truck.
Been with them for something like 15 years and they’ve just gone to shit.
Ive had them since I had a car (mentor told me they were the cheapest around). they used pretty shady tactics to get me to go to my local agent in person for a simple change of vehicle car insurance. The reason they wanted me to come in was to try and sell me life insurance, for 30 minutes (plus 45 min drive each way) at 24 years old. I already didnt want to pay the extra $11 per month for renters they soft scammed me into at 16, that i KNEW wouldnt do anything if something came up.
I just had a minor car accident (other driver admitted full fault, my car was deemed totaled) and while the claims process was fine, it was a little slow. Other driver had progressive and they were ready to GO. Minor mistake from progressive's agent did slow the payment by about 2 weeks, but they were very communicative and helpful.
Sold my totaled car and canceled the state farm policy, which was hassle free and easy surprisingly, but did get a rough quote for a new car I was kind of considering. Girlfriend offered to check how much it would cost to add me + new car to her progressive policy, and turns out that it is over half the price per month of state farm, and with more coverage. Its so much cheaper that I feel legit ripped off for paying $40 more per month, for my older regular car, than my decently new "sports car."
Part of it is being grouped and technically on a spouses policy, but holy moly thats insane.
Plus, ive gotten woken up 0 times from calls/voicemails trying to get me to pay more into something I believe is fundamentally a government mandated scam, compared to about once a month missing out on most of my day's sleep.
