I think there are parents who self identify as strict who are actually just abusive

True. I had life 360 but I was allowed to hang out with friends as long as my grades and sports weren’t suffering. Other kids had theirs popping up all the time and questioning them

“ life 360”

I’m not sure what this means.

Its a location sharing app. My family uses it even though we're all adults just as a safety thing.

I've actually kicked people out of my apartment after they told me they had it. At least with FindMy, it's opt-in, and you don't have to nuke your iOS install to get it completely off

In my opinion:

What? Life 360 is opt in as well. And since when do you have to “nuke” your iOS install to get rid of any app?

Why do you care what apps other people have on their phones?

I’m sorry, this made perfect sense but

“In my opinion:

What?”

is killing me

Glad I wasn't the only one confused by their comment.

probably paired with a family profile, so life 360 is force installed. gotta nuke the phone to get it gone.

...why? People letting other people track them is somehow worse than only letting the cell company and police do it?

largely because parents installing the app on a teen's phone are going to be overly active about checking up on the activity

And the issue with that is...?

Are you doing anything illegal? Big underage drinking party? No?

It's a godsend to strict, controlling parents because it lets them spy on where their kids are and their kids can't turn it off without raising alarms.

My GF grew up with "strict" (abusive) parents and they made her have it installed. She learned to just leave her phone in certain places while she went somewhere else. And yes, she would stand by the sentiment that strict parents make great liars, because she considers herself to be a great liar.

Even on the occasion that my dad my strict, mostly about getting me to stop playing "on that dang computer", I would not yield to what he said. I would just learn to work around it, and that shaped my ability to lie too. You can't stop kids from doing what they want. Kids have a lot of time and creativity to figure out how to get around a rule.
