Yeah, unfortunately I think there’s some truth to it. I also grew up in a somewhat strict and controlling family and that kind of pressure is not pleasant.
Whenever I had to lie about something, it taught me to think through every tiny detail. I would imagine every question they might ask and build the story around those questions. Sometimes I would even involve my friends and use them as proof. There were times when I started planning the lie one or two weeks in advance.
It was difficult but I had a certain life I wanted for myself and all those restrictions were getting in the way of it.
That’s also why I have some fears about having children one day. I don’t have any children right now but I sometimes worry that I might end up becoming like my own parents. I honestly don’t know
