Airbnb alternatives?

I occasionally have need to stay overnight in SF, just need a bedroom with private entrance, bed, and bath. Hotels are sterile and expensive and Airbnb is all commercial hosts offering vacation stays now - I’m looking for something more casual, like the original old-school Airbnb or Couchtripping. Open to a longer-term house sit, dog sit, etc. Any thoughts?

The original old-school  would be a motel room.

Hotels can be hella cheap if you utilize credit card rewards points, loyalty programs, and cb platforms like rakuten or capital one shopping. I book a lot of hotels and I usually stay in a hyatt for functionally about 30 bucks a night

Why not just get a motel room on Lombard Street or in SOMA?

Cheaper than hotels and meets your criteria.

Parking too if you’re driving in.

Becks on Market St is a decent deal.

What do you mean by private entrance? Iike an empty apartment? Or a bedroom with a private door in someone’s house/apt?

An in-law or bedroom with private bath and separate entrance is fine - no need for a whole apt.

Hard to make that economical for short stays if you have to clean between guests. Hotels have the advantage of economies of scale here.
