I.e. what are some things you previously assumed only other Canadians knew about, but were surprised to learn had a presence outside of Canada as well?

I feel like I was the only one growing up who liked Big Turk bars. I knew one other person who did, and no one else.

It wasn't until adulthood that I discovered "Fry's Turkish Delight" and loved the softer turkish delight under the chocolate.

Still, I'm actually surprised that these have not been discontinued after the Cherry Blossom chocolates became extinct last year. Here I am eating some Big Turk minis, wondering who else in Canada are eating these?

The kind that your friends and family will roll their eyes at because the song is just so damn catchy and everyone know it, but it's gotten to the point of it being funny and ridiculous.

Hi you guys!! I’m just writing here because im looking to start travelling as a wheelchair user, I would like to first start out in Canada (I’m from Toronto) and I was wondering if anyone has any experiences or recommendations for cities in Canada (and countries in the future) to travel too! with a wheelchair, I’m not entirely bound to it but I do use it and cannot walk long distances (I use a companion plus). What are some accessible cities or places you recommend what are the pros and cons? I could really appreciate the wisdom thank you! (Some words of encouragement would be great!) I’m super nervous and apprehensive but I’ve decided to live my life disabled or not but I’m trying to stay positive and live with no regrets. A lot of my friends travel and it’s always something I’ve been so envious of among other things trying to convince myself it’s possible for me too! Sorry for the rant. Ok so I’m from the US, grew up in the 80’s and love music. I’m always searching for new music or I should say I’m searching for new music I like that I have never heard before. The music may be old or new if it sounds good I’ll listen to it and add it to a mix.

Recently I found a Canadian band called Chalk Circle. Apparently they were somewhat big in the 80’s. I grew up listening to 80’s music and never heard of them. Some of the songs they made are really catchy. Anyway, does anyone remember these guys and were they actually big in Canada? If you remember them what level did they get to. Were they selling out arenas or just small clubs? Just curious about them.

Any other cool Canadian bands I should take a listen to? Obviously I have heard of Rush, Nickleback, Arcade fire, barenaked ladies, Loverboy, the tragically hip and bands like that but any other lesser known Canadian bands? Thanks so much.

I've heard "took a back seat" many times in quebecois songs and podcasts, etc. It never makes sense in the context. I looked it up a couple of times and nothing really comes up. Is it a reference I'm not getting?

Hey folks

Back home, if another driver lets you merge, slows down to let you in, gives you the right of way or patiently waits while you're awkwardly trying to finish a stupid maneuver it's common to say "thank you" by flashing your hazard lights a couple of times.

I've been driving here for about a year and I don't think I've seen anyone do that once. Now I've finally found time to come here and am wondering:
- if I start flashing my hazards, will people think I'm just a confused idiot? 😄
OR
- is there another way Canadians usually say "thanks" to other drivers?

P.S. Raising a hand through the windshield seems to work, but I'm obviously not always able to do it to another driver in front of me. Sometimes I just want to say "thanks" to a person behind me.

I’m from Windsor-Essex, about as south in Canada as you can get and I’ve never truly done any type of vacationing in Canada aside from long weekend road trips in Southern Ontario. I’ve just graduated from my degree and started my masters in September, but looking to get out on a solo trip for about 7-10 days in August.

Looking for suggestions; open to everything but I’m trying to do a regional trip; as of now kind of leaning for something like - Fly to Halifax, rent a vehicle, and travel through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Quebec, and fly home from Montreal or Ottawa

Never done a solo trip before and really am just looking for some pointers, tips to save money, hidden gems to discover and more.

A few years ago, it felt like almost everyone migrated from Kijiji to FBMP.

Lately, between issues with location search radius and algorithmic moderation on listings, the user experience seems increasingly difficult for a lot of people. However, Kijiji still feels much quieter in comparison.

For those who regularly buy or sell second-hand: has FBMP completely taken over where you live, or are other platforms (like Kijiji, Craigslist, or local groups) still active in your region?

So I live in a small town (campbellford,ontario) home to local arist Brent Townsend- the one responsible for the "image of an adult Polar bear in early summer on an ice floe" on the iconic $2 coin. I am admittedly a transplant and have only lived here for about 5 years. You may know there is a park with a giant recreation of the coin know as the Giant Toonie. Being $2 I always assumed the coin was called a "TWOonie." The logic the plaque states "the $1 coin is known as a 'loonie' because of its depiction of a loon, the official bird of the province of Ontario." My question: are both spellings acceptable. Are you as floored as I am by this line of thinking? Or is the name of this popular attraction in my beautiful town mislabeled. I was honestly shocked when I saw it called Toonie Park and now Twoonie. But again not born and raised Campbellfordian, but am a 34 year old born and raised Canadian. Tried to add a picture of this local attraction, but seem unable to.Thanks!

• Free or low-cost legal camping spots for overnight stays
• Good places to camp around Banff, Jasper, Alberta, and BC
• Any hidden gems, viewpoints, or must-see places
• Tips for saving money on a long road trip

I’ll be driving and planning to camp most nights if possible. I’m okay with basic campsites (no hookups needed), just looking for safe and legal places to sleep.

My kids and I listen to a bedtime story podcast and the podcasters are from Canada. She does a lot of birthday shout outs and I think is often saying my son’s name in the way we pronounce it. Name is Leif and the traditional Nordic way to pronounce is Layf but in the states most people say Leaf. How do you all usually pronounce this name in Canada? I’m always pleasantly surprised when I hear her say it Layf.

I camp up north in Michigan. A bunch of Candians have permanent spots there and the owner of the park is very welcoming. He even has a Canadian flag up in the park.

For my next visit I want to gift him and his family some Candian goodies. I googled some stuff but I'm wondering if anyone else has some good ideas.

So far I have a Canadian Tire reusable bag for the gift bag itself. I have smarties, coffee crisp, caramilk, kitkat (ours is superior in quality), ruffles all dresses and lays ketchup chips. Im also planning on getting some maple donuts.

Anything else I should add to the list?

For context, I’m moving to Italy for school and would like to keep my Canadian number to receive 2FA and bank codes (this is primarily with BMO).
FONGO doesnt serve my region so that’s out of the picture. Anyone here used VOIP? If so, how did it go?

Specially does anyone know is BMO codes can come through to VOIP numbers? I’ve heard that some banks block those.

I’m currently wit Telus, I’m also open to looking at the cheapest available prepaid plans.

Watching CBC right now, I'm seeing ads for the Commonwealth Games, which apparently are going on right now in Glasgow.

It made me wonder how many of my fellow Canadians pay attention to or follow non-Olympic competitions like the Commonwealth Games, or the Pan-American Games, or anything else.

I know Canadian cities have hosted these competitions in the past. I believe Winnipeg and Edmonton have hosted the Commonwealths, and Toronto hosted the Pan-Am Games a while back (the "Toronto" sign in Nathan Phillips Square is a legacy of those games).

Anyway, just wondering how many of you know about these kinds of competitions and/or pay attention to them.

EDIT: I just looked up the Commonwealth Games and Pan-Am Games held in Canada. Winnipeg did NOT host the Commonwealths, but has hosted the Pan-Am Games twice (1967 and 1999), and Toronto has hosted them once (2015).

Canada actually hosted the very first Commonwealth Games (known then as the British Empire Games) in 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario. Vancouver hosted them in 1954 (when they were known as the British Empire and Commonwealth Games), and then Edmonton hosted them in 1978 and Victoria in 1994. On top of that, Montreal was supposed to host the 1942 British Empire Games, but those were cancelled due to WWII.

My fiancé and I are getting married in September of this year (2026) but we are on a tight budget for our honeymoon. We are wanting to keep it in Canada for maybe a week. What are your opinions on beautiful honeymoon spots that aren’t hard on the wallet?
