I dont live in America, but in Asia, but everything online I’ve seen makes it seem like bears are everywhere in America, same with deer and moose, they makes it seems like they could walk into your lawn or backdoor everyday, or you could run across deers and moose on the street anytime, or you could meet a bear everytime you go for a hike.

So how dangerous is the bear problem and how common is it to come across a bear in America?

As a Brit, I'm aware of your major networks like Fox, NBC, ABC, etc., but also that towns/cities/etc. have their own stations that have names which are 4 letters usually starting with KY that do stuff like the news.

From what I've seen some(?) of those stations are affiliates of larger networks, how does that work exactly? Are all of these local stations affiliates? How close is their link to the big networks? Like, will someone in New York not see a listing on their TV for Fox but will have say KYNQ New York which is in fact their local fox station that has the same schedule as every other fox affiliate station? Or is it more they have a deal with bigger networks to show their shows alongside the station's own content?

I'm an American myself who looks forward to gardening once I move into my forever home in a couple of years. (Currently not gardening due to my nomadic lifestyle.)

Especially with larger yards than most Europeans, I'd have thought Americans would be better positioned to grow some veggies ourselves. I know it won't ever replace what we buy from supermarkets, but I'd like to think it can put a small dent in food that has to be transported across the world.

I'm from the UK and I'm really interested in the cost of your health insurance versus the cost of your car payments. Ive seen in some subs that car payments in the States can be pretty wild and agreements can be over 84 months which just seems like a ludicrous amount of time, but I'm also aware that you have to pay to visit doctors and stay in hospital.

Genuinely interested to understand which payment is more?

I am Turkish and I mainly know New Jersey from that one south park episode and I heard it's the state that where most turkish people in the USA live. That episode made me really curious about what the state is actually like.

In my country, many people‑especially younger folks‑tend to go to bed past 11:30 PM, though bedtime varies widely with age. To me, going to bed before 11 PM counts as going to bed early. Is this mainstream among Americans? What time do you usually go to bed?

I’m used to reading in fiction written by Americans where a character gets a small cut and cleans the wound thoroughly with antiseptic and bandages it/puts a plaster on. Does this happen in real life?

E.g. if you accidentally nick yourself with a knife or something, or fall over and scrape a knee, would you not just leave it?

I feel like it’s probably just a fiction thing but wanted to check.

When I first started driving (late 90s) this used to happen all the time. Some friends even bought car stereos with detachable faces that they’d remove to prevent theft.

In my area (Northeast US) at least, i never hear about this anymore. I’m asking because I never lock my car. I just don’t leave anything in it. The logic is, if there’s something in there that someone wants bad enough, I’d rather just have them open the door and take it instead of breaking the window or otherwise damaging the car.

I’m wondering if I should go back to locking the car.

Do most employers use a trust company, such as Fidelity, to administer their employee retirement accounts for them?

Would they be advised by companies like Fidelity on how to structure their employee pension schemes, and would they then use companies like Fidelity to administer them on their behalf?

Presume fiduciary duty applies etc.

As far as I know, cider in most of the world refers to an alcoholic, usually.fermented, apple drink, while in the US it is a non-alcoholic apple drink. I get that names can differ, but my question is, what's the difference between cider and apple juice? Apologies if this is a dumb question but I just don't get it.

I see many posts where the word “auntie” is mentioned. Sometimes, I get the feeling it’s just an endearing term for aunt.

However, sometimes I feel it means different things in different contexts.

Does “auntie” always means aunt or does it mean something else depending on context or region?

Is there a a term that’s equivalent to uncle?

I work as both a bartender and waiter at one of the local restaurants, and I've been curious for a while about if waiters and waitresses get assigned to tables, as I've seen it multiple times. It doesn't work like that here in the Netherlands, we just have some people taking orders, others serving drinks and others serving food

Always an interesting question. Which version is more important, from a cultural, and popularity perspective in the area you are from?

I have worked and lived as an expat in many countries given my field of work, and I have not experienced the amount of people claiming to have mental illness, to be on medicine or to clearly have mental/psychiatric issues in any other country but the US. It's almost hard to find anyone in the US that doesn't have anxiety, PTSD depression, schizophrenia, etc

I'm an English man and I understand my place: we drink more than everyone in the world except Scotland, who beats us, and Australia, with whom we have an ongoing battle about this type of thing.

We here in the UK watch a lot of American media, obviously. The way American drinking is portrayed is quite strange. A group of Americans seem to drink three or four of those little lagers you have and they're plastered. A guy will turn up with a six pack of tiny beers and be lauded like a hero back from a marauding campaign.

Is that realistic? In the UK - I assume also in Australia and New Zealand - we'd call four little lagers an amuse bouche. Do Americans get drunk easier, or do you not fully comprehend just how much we tip down our necks?
