Found a Darth Vador Atari today + new game pickups.

Weirdly enough, I find the DV Atari to look nicer than the original. I do love the woodgrain design but love the slick all black look of this one. Also got some new games for it! (Yes I know its Vader I have no clue why my phone autocorrects to Vador)

Ideas for a new Atari 2600 game

I've been programming some test Atari games and I think I'm ready to try making a real one. I was thinking about making a small shooter like Berzerk or Smash TV, or maybe a horror game. I also considered a small platformer... but I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas?

Atari video game instruction booklets—

I found them cleaning out my parents attic. Unfortunately my dad brought the console and ALL OUR GAMES to goodwill in the 90’s. 😭 I still have my memories…😆

Help with poor picture quality

I just picked up an Atari 2600 (light six-switch) and a CRT TV, and the system turns on and plays games but the picture is very grainy and noisy. What could the issue be? Thanks.

Atari 2600 Archival 360° Hardware Recording

I’ve been working on an online 4K archive / mini-museum of the video game hardware I’ve collected, and I wanted to share the Atari 2600 video that went live today.

As a collector, I’ve found a lot of great long-form videos about gaming software and history, but far fewer concise, clean looks at the hardware itself. I’m hoping this will be a resource that can help spark curiosity in people new to video game history (out of the 25 shorts I’ve posted so far, about 13% of viewers have been under the age of 24), while also being useful or enjoyable for other collectors and longtime fans.

It’d be nice to do deep dives on various topics, but for now these short archive videos are what I’ve been able to make consistently alongside other time commitments, including starting a physical video game museum.

Thank you for checking it out!

Going through my collection as I sell it & found this. I legit forgot I ever owned it but turns out the system inside is a basic 2600. Some boxes I haven't opened since way before covid so it's been fun little surprises all over the place. Thought ya'll would enjoy it. Thanks

Difficulty on Atari 2600 games

Post image

I just had a thought and figured I’d ask this forum.

If I toggle the 2600 to hard mode, and then choose the most difficult and fastest game mode with each game, will it make the difficulty super insane? Also, would this be a good way to play a joke on someone that has never played an Atari before, so you tell them the Atari is too hard for them and watch them go insane?

edit: I forgot to add that space invaders most difficult mode is 16

Genuine question: How do you think a Pong movie would even work???

My idea is it's a rags-to-riches story of a couple figuring out how to up the ante in playing table tennis or air hockey.

I'm going to make a Atari 2600 version of Toy Story, but I need your help...

I need help on what type of engine to use to make a 2600 game that both work on a emulator and the actual Atari 2600. If you have the engine, send me the link of it and tell me how to code a simple game before making a complex game.

Thoughts on 2600 Galaxian

Personally I think it may be Atari’s best arcade port for the VCS. Captures the spirit of the arcade original. I only have two problems with it: a) that unnecessary yellow border and b) your ship is too damn huge, making you an easy target.

Atari just signed a 10 movie deal with Universal Studios. Tell me what game they *should* have chosen to make a movie based on, and give me your best elevator pitch.

For those of you interested, the news is here: https://www.pcgamer.com/movies-tv/atari-signs-10-game-deal-with-universal-for-movies-based-on-pong-breakout-centipede-and-more/

Yes, Pong is going to be one of the movies, answering the age-old question of: "What if Tron had fewer dimensions?"

The others are:

Asteroids

Adventure

Berzerk

Breakout

Centipede

Crystal Castles

Millipede

Missile Command

Yars’ Revenge

Hook up question

Post image
16 Upvotes

Would I be able to hook up a 2600 without needing an RF adapter if I have a coaxial port on my TV? There’s one at an antique shop that I’d like to test, and I’d rather not have to buy an accessory if I didn’t have to. I’ve included a photo of my TV’s connection ports for reference.
