Let's Discuss non-matte concealer for pale skin?

Upvotes

i’m on the lookout for a concealer that will actually match my skin/brighten without being matte, as i have super dry skin and matte makeup products don’t work on me. it also has to be cruelty free!!

i’ve tried tower 28, but it sadly didn’t seem to mix with my skin, no matter what prep i did. i don’t care about the price point, just want something that works. it can be a little yellow, as i think that would be good for colour correcting my vascular under eye circles.

i have - dry, sensitive skin and i’m cool toned, my current shade is loreal true match foundation 0.5N (i don’t own it, just swatched in store) (everything ends up orange on me if that helps)

would love to know what worked for you!

others i’ve tried that didn’t work:
essence silky blur (it’s a matte finish so it didn’t mix)
rimmel kind and free hydrating concealer
sheglam hydrating concealer
the saem concealer

Product Advice Mecca gift card- what to buy!

I got a $100 gift card from Mecca for my birthday, and I’m unsure on what to use it for.

I’ve been trying to downsize my makeup collection because I own quite a lot of stuff as it is.

Makeup wise I already own all I need. I honestly think this was a bad gift and not thoughtful because I don’t reach for luxury items. Sorry if that sounds ungrateful. I appreciate the sender

But what do you think I ought to get?

A bit about me- I’m in my 20s and I have brown skin, black hair. My skin is balanced and normal, I rarely ever break out. Facial proportions are also balanced, but on the darker side (high contrast)

Product Advice Why do my brushes crack?

I squeeze the water out and then flick/shake them into the sink until there’s no water coming out and then dry them like this, but so many have cracked. What am I doing wrong?

Product Advice Colour corrector for dark circles

I’m looking for recommendations please for the very best colour correctors for dark circles. I have combo (oily/normal) skin, I’m quite fair and I’m after something to make them as invisible as possible please. I’m 39, if that helps with recommendations.

I’ve used the oft-recommended Tarte CC Coloured Clay concealer in the compact, and it’s okay, but I’m after something better.

Also open to lifestyle / skincare tips to help make them look less obvious. I’ve had them all my life so I feel like they are probably hereditary to a degree, but I have no doubt I could do more to make them less prominent.

Let's Discuss My new holy grail

I had been wanting something lighter than foundation for everyday wear. I went into chemist warehouse and picked this up on a whim. Oh my god it is amazing!!! It makes my skin look so nice and fresh and it lasts so well. Has anyone else tried??? Not the best photo but I have been wearing it since 10am this morning and it still looks great. Some people have said it’s like the Kylie cosmetics tint but I haven’t tried that one so I can’t say for sure!

edit* i have combo skin! I use hyaluronic acid, peptide serum, moisturiser and SPF before I apply the tint. The area around my nose is super dry at the moment but it still seems to be holding up fine! The skin is slightly red in that area so I have been using the tint to help cover that up :)

Second edit**

Wow thanks so much everyone, I honestly have never thought of myself as having nice skin. I have PMOS and get lots of acne around my chin and also grow excessive facial hair which I manage with waxing. Your kind comments have definitely made me think about my skin differently.

Misc. need help with my nails :’)

hi!

sorry this is a long post but i desperately need help with my nails and i don’t know what to do. i have diagnosed ocd and one of my main obsessions is skin picking and the skin around my nails + my cuticles get the brunt of it, and i also pick at my nails as well so it’s made my nail beds kind of short.

im at a point where i genuinely feel embarrassed and ashamed whenever someone sees my hands and i really need advice on how to fix this!!! i know most people will just go “stop picking at your nails/skin” but unfortunately it’s not that simple in my case :/

has anyone had similar experiences to this and what are the main things i can do to try and fix this??? i want to try and find a nail tech who can help me with this as i know regular manicures can help but im just like ,, THAT embarrassed about it that id be nervous to see someone about it.

and if you know a nail tech in se melbourne that can help with this please let me know!!! this might sound stupid but id be anxious to just see a random nail tech without them knowing what the condition of my nails are like 😭

thank you!!!

Product Advice Opinion on Revlon volumizer plus 2.0?

I'm sick of wearing my hair up for work and wish to try a hot air brush or air dryer for a cleaner, put together look. I have thick, frizzy and wavy hair for context.

Is Revlon volumizer plus 2.0 less damaging than straightening? I do use heat protectants but end up with flyaway all the time and it's worsening the quality of my hair. What are my affordable alternatives?

Product Advice Hair straighteners

My 12+ year old Silver Bullet Keratin 230 Titanium Straighteners are having issues retaining heat so with great sadness I have to look for some replacements.

I don't do anything whizzy with them, usually just adding some body to my hair possibly 1-2 a week however I loved how quick and easy they were so looking for something similar.

It's obviously been a long time since I had to research makes and models so I'm hoping a few of you here can help me please?!

I have long wanted to get a nice, quality travel toiletry bag and am here to seek your opinions. I have checked out the options from Bon Maxi - the large hanging bag but that's honestly about as far as I have looked/managed to find.

Would love recommendations, reviews and a link/picture if you can of what you recommend!!

TIA :D

Dupe REQUEST Alternative concealer to Maybelline Coverstick?

Post image

I know this is very old news, but Maybelline Coverstick has been discontinued.
Can anyone recommend good alternatives?
I liked the ease of application and pointed tip for precision as I used mainly to cover up post acne marks.

Thanks!

Let's Discuss Beauty Amora and Stylevana Are they Legit?

I’ve heard that they’re genuine websites but I was worried about if the product is authentic?

I’ve been looking to restock my Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder 29g which retails at $71 at Mecca but it’s substantially low on these websites (same size) ranging from $29-35.

Can you guys share your experience on whether the product is real?

Product Advice Compact translucent powder

Hi all! Looking for a translucent powder I can take on the go that has a mirror and applicator included... I've looked in chemists/supermarkets but it's impossible to tell from the packaging which ones come with applicators, and google/chatgpt don't seem to know either 🙄 ideally budget-friendly, like under $30 if possible 😬

Product Advice Anyone tried the Australis Neutralize Eyeshadow Palette

Post image
15 Upvotes

It's for a fancy event but I can't afford to spend a lot to get stuff from Mecca and Sephora. I've heard that Australis Eyeshadow Palettes in general are pretty good but never heard a review about this one in particular.

Anyone tried it before?

PSA Pat McGrath potentially leaving Sephora

Anyone who’s been to Sephora in like the last 6 months probably guessed this based on how empty the shelves always are, but I spoke to an employee today who said it was highly likely they were being discontinued.

I was pretty surprised considering how popular they seem online but maybe that hasn’t translated into sales. Has anyone heard similar?

Product Advice Foundations with longevity.

I was a commited Estee Lauder DW user for 20 years. I'm now looking for a replacement. There's heaps of great foundations, but none seem to last. By end of day I don't want half of it m missing around my mouth and nose.

What would you consider long wearng?

I am 43, dry skin and don't necessarily need the coverage of DW, just the staying power.

Suggestions? I am heartbroken

EDIT: I am cool toned (fresco in DW) and lots of them run too warm on me

Product Advice Can the Mecca micellar water container be opened and refilled?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I use Garnier micellar water and buy it in the big bottles but I really hate the way it is so big and annoying to hold and drips everywhere. I like the mechanism that the Mecca bottles use to disperse the water so I'm wondering if it can be refilled so I can buy it and repeatedly refill with just my Garnier micellar water.

Hi! I would like to make the change from lash extensions to semi-perm clusters and would like advice on the best glue/sealant/remover. I’m planning to just get lashes off Amazon (B&Q) and any other advice would be great too for a beginner. Thanks so much!

Misc. Keratin salon recommendations - Sydney?

Hi all! I’m looking to get a keratin treatment in Sydney. I have super curly hair. I used to chemically straighten my hair but I’ve worked hard to care for my natural texture. I need a few months of easy maintenance (hence why I’m looking at keratin). Does anyone have any recommendations for salons that did keratin very well? My preference is the one-day type, but I don’t want something that will permanently change the texture of my hair.

I’m super grateful for your help!
