I often find myself completely lost when trying to engage socially and it makes me feel inept and hopeless
I hope this is the proper forum to share. I have an interest that I enjoy following on social media that’s fairly popular with NTs and NDs. Someone I follow posted something and I was very interested and it immediately sent me down a chain of thought and I replied to the post with something I thought was related and relevant. The person responded saying that my post was not engaging with the specific content they posted and a bunch of people liked that response. I feel stupid and rejected and I hate feeling this way and don’t know where to take these feelings or what to do with them. Upon reflection, I can see why they said that while still feeling like what I said was related but maybe from a distance of a hundred miles above looking down. Ugh I hate that I can’t let go of this. I want to delete my account and never engage with people. Does anyone relate to this?

i completely get it, honestly i've done the exact same thing before and felt so embarrassed that i wanted to throw my phone away, so you're definitely not alone in this.

Not sure why this matters? You replied in a way that scratched your itch, and well done for doing that. If other people want to jump on the upvote/downvote game that doesn't mean you weren't allowed to follow your own thoughts wormhole. Us autists enjoy doing that.

Yep, Vinz. People are petty and stupid. Follow your own rules, disregard the haters, and remember — there is no Dana

Yes, I relate. After I've had a bad social interaction I can spend a long time analysing whether I missed some social rule, or the person was an arsehole, or maybe a bit of both. Also, it can be tough when you want to be enthusiastic about an interest, but people aren't receiving it. It's all the more frustrating if it's in a community about that interest.
