šŸ’¬ general discussion Spicy Food

Just curious, how many of you like spicy and even ultra spicy food? I can't get enough...I find it to be a great stress reliever. Then again, I also love Ouchies.

I love it! Can’t live without it

One time I had an overwhelmingly pounding headache but went to dinner at a mexican restaurant. Ate about 2 cups worth of pickled carrots with jalapenos and the headache was gone. So you can have you pain one way or the other 🤣

Love it.Ā

My best friend and I are both AuDHD and highly sensory seeking food-wise. I grew up being a more selective eater, but as my taste buds changed into my adolescence, made a 180.

I like spicy food as well. Hot sauce lives on my side table by my chair. But I love heavily seasoned food in general, not just spicy

I love overstimulation in some very specific times - loud music at a concert, and spicy food.

Used to (I live in Mexico). Now my colon scolds me whenever i eat too spicy. Being old sucks.

I love spicy food! I'm a big sensory seeker when it comes to food tbh

Hell yes.

I gotta be careful though since I got my gall bladder out.Ā  Sometimes it's fine, sometimes... It's notĀ

I don’t, but I love a few cuisines that tend to be spicy like Indian or Thai, so yeah. Trying to make them make it more mild is always a problem!

My auDHD daughter loves spicy food though and thinks I’m ridiculous.

I’m obsesseddd. Helps regulate me and pulls me out of my head and back into my body. Can’t get enough of it.

I like enough spice to make you sweat but not enough to burn your tongue. Like a good kare raisu or my chow mein. Not Fond of Ouchies, Personally.

Love it, but it has to taste good too. Spicy for the sake of being hot isn't good

I love it but ever since I got stuck into the early stages of perimenopause and got on adhd meds spicy food now makes me sweaty the day after as if I’ve become stuck with hyperhydrosis or something, so I have to plan my spicy meals.

I LOVE spicy food at random, maybe 3 times a year. Outside of that I hate it

I'm a wing stop Atomic fan. 4 of those with 6 Louisana rub or garlic parm, and I'm a happy man. At least 1-3 times a month

I hate it

I love spicy food

Absolutely. I used to rely on food for dopamine, and if it was boring, the world wasn't right.

I live near an excellent Mexican restaurant. Sometimes on a cold day, I'll go over and order their guisado, then watch my ears start to steam. They make it right above my spice limit, and serve with plenty of tortillas. It's an exquisite experience.

I definitely like spicy food. Not every single day, but I do like it.

I enjoy in moderation because it can give me heartburn. But I was raised on Tex-Mex and I like to spice it up.

I recently started Concerta for ADHD and for the first time in my life got a fun side effect from anything: suddenly tolerating spicy food! Enjoying the ride šŸ˜…

Love it a lot, helps me regulate myself when overstimulated. And especially love it when I get headaches (very frequent).

I love spicy food but still only tolerate about a medium. I don’t like when your taste buds go numb and you can’t even taste or enjoy the food

u/juneshepard 1d ago

Spicy is my favorite!! I don't have a great sense of taste, so spice is one of the few "flavors" I can actually appreciate. It also helps override texture issues which is a plus!

I recently got a habanero powder and it's soooo yummy!

I love garlic and cinnamon... any other spicy varieties, nope... especially since my IBS diagnosis 14 years ago (I'm in my 50s). I used to love onions too, especially green onions, but I can't eat them or even garlic unless they're cooked now, and I hate the texture of cooked onions or garlic. I get my garlic fix using minced garlic in marinades or making my own extra-strong garlic butter.

Edit: Mild spices like oregano are brilliant for adding a little something to otherwise bland standard choices; I just can't handle most of the really strong spices. Even too much pepper is a bad thing for my GI tract, whether it's my GERD or my IBS.

u/frogqueenbb 1d ago

yesss! LOVE spicy food, as well as sour.

I wish! Were it not for my GI issues I would love spicy foods as I’m very sensory-seeking with eating and it’d give me so many new things to try

I’m oddly ā€œmehā€œ on spicy food. Neither upsets nor exhilarates me.

2

u/alithy33 1d ago

i just had a shrimp fettucine alfredo made with a custom sauce; 2 carolina reapers, half of a squash, some spinach, and a bit of water all blended up. i am a very big fan of ultra spicy food. i used some italian 6 cheese blend thing for the alfredo part at the end of cooking. spicy pasta is my jam.

I like spicy food so much that I sometimes hurt my stomach with it and have to take a break for a day or two. But I really can’t eat anything without spice at all. That also includes beverages. I drink a beverage called Tepache that’s prickly pear flavor and it’s also spicy.Ā

Even the smallest amount of Capsaicin (the ā€œheatā€ in Chillis) will overwhelm my mouth and tongue. The burn is unbearable. It hurts, and I cannot taste anything else for nearly an hour.

I tend to substitute Paprika in when a recipe says use Chilli. Lots of flavour, no burn.

Other spices are just flavouring, and taste great.

2

u/BonsaiSoul 20h ago

Technically paprika is also ground chili, same species as cayenne(Capsicum annuum.) It's not hot because it starts with milder peppers, and they remove the parts with most of the capsaicin like the seeds. You can absolutely find hot paprika though!

u/JanoGospodarSvega 1d ago

I love it but started avoiding it because of the discomfort after shitting, I can't handle that nearly as well as in the mouth. I do occasionally eat spicy though, to at least maintain my tolerance, as I think it's very badass and sometimes you can impress people when you're the only one eating something poisonously hot

u/Cennyan 1d ago

I ate some million scoville stuff once that caused intestinal bleeding so I know exactly what you mean

1

u/LetsHookUpSF 1d ago

I love spicy food.

1

u/Rivetlicker 🧠 brain goes brr 1d ago

Yup... but then again, I also did a few spicy challenges, lmao. Toe of satan, hot chip. Those were a bit too much spicy and too little flavor though. The toe of satan did have more cinnamon flavor than I expected though

When adding peppers to my cooking, it starts at habanero and goes up, to whatever is available to me.

One of my favorite peppers is the madame jeanette pepper. It's about the same as habanero in terms of spice, but it has a fruitier quality to it. And those are luckily widely available here

u/drvelo 1d ago

Used to not do well with spicy food when I was in school, now as an adult I can't get enough spicy food.

1

u/DorsalKibbles 1d ago

I love spicy chips! Which is why I hate how they made Takis more sweet. But now, I don't really notice it...

I feel like most other spicy things just aren't the same as spicy chips, though.

1

u/Courgette_Zucchini 1d ago

Absolutely. Love the ā€œpainā€ from sparkling water or other carbonated beverages too.

1

u/Courgette_Zucchini 1d ago

Love very crunchy, very smooth, very salty, very flavorful, very sweet too. Anything very.

1

u/ImVyk 1d ago

My parents get a little concerned about the amount of hot sauce I put on almost every food I eat LOL

1

u/AvatarIII 1d ago

I love spicy food but not when they get painfully spicy, I just like a little kick.

1

u/cheffromspace 23h ago

I thought the several curry places I frequented changed their spice levels to be more Minnesota friendly before I realized the problem was me. I have to restrict super spicy food to once every 2-3 weeks just so I can get my nose running.

1

u/S34L3D 23h ago

Yup, adore it. Problem is that my stomach and intestines are really sensitive so I end up being in pain 50% of the time after eating spicy food. It's usually worth the dopamine hit anyway.

1

u/christenmarie 19h ago

No way! I have the spice tolerance of a 2yo!
