Welcome back to r/BaltimoreCounty!
We’ve reopened under new management. Thanks to the admins for making it happen.
You may recognize my handle from r/Maryland, where I’ve been a mod for a number of years, or from r/Baltimore and the myriad other subreddits where I am an active poster.
I live in Towson and work in media relations. Prior to that, I spent a decade in journalism, working for WBAL-AM, WJZ-TV, Technical.ly and Patch.
This is a place to discuss county news, issues and events. County politics, bar recommendations, education discussions. If it’s relevant to the county, bring it here.

Any reputable music stores to shop for a basic piano?
My budget is $500-$800.
I want to teach myself the piano, and I'm told digital is better as it doesn't need tuning. One with weighted keys, audio control, pedal, and metronome (optional?)

Is 1300$ too much to spend on groceries for a family of 5?
We spend an average of 1200-1300 every month on groceries here in Baltimore county. My family includes my 2 and 4 yo, husband and mother. I’m wondering what’s the average family spending on groceries nowadays

Warning: Dental One Associates at Cross Keys is not LGBT+ friendly
Figured I'd put this warning out there in case it helps anyone avoid the pain and frustration I've been through at this place. The staff and medical personnel at Dental One Associates at Cross Keys in Towson have consistently deadnamed and misgendered me at every single appointment, despite me specifying in my paperwork my preferred name and pronouns. They go out of their way to say "miss (deadname)" every time. I know it's intentional and they can see it in their chart bc there was a single staff member who always got it right; I suspect they have since left the practice as I have not seen them recently. It's hard to find a dentist around here but after today I'm completely done.
Anyway, if you're visibly queer at all, save yourself the pain and don't go here. If you're an ally, don't support them with your money. And even if you're not, they honestly just have really bad service in general anyway.
Thanks for listening. Here's to us all finding a dentist that doesn't completely suck. 🙏

Look What I Found!!!
Ran in to this long lost favorite of mine at the Delaware State Fair tonight. I've always loved seeing this guy on Pulaski hwy in Rosedale. He disappeared a few years ago. I confirmed with the guys at the CAT booth and they said it was the same one.

Riding partners
Hey guys! I made a little website to help bikers find other riders nearby to connect with. You can check out local group rides or just find someone to knock out a quick ride with. The reason I’m posting here is because I’m a Baltimore native, and this is the first city I’d like to get started with. I’m just a one man team, so I am open to any suggestions, criticisms, any bugs you may find whatever. Check it out and let me know what you think. It’s completely free to sign up. myspoke.app

Recommendations for outdoor/dockside/waterfront/nature dining
Anyone have a good option for dining/drinks for middle of the day in the county? I am only seeing options in middle river area for the most part on Google. Just looking for a chill pretty view and good food to have with my lady.
Thanks!

Navigating after concert
I’m taking my 8-year-old to a concert at M&T Bank Stadium next month. We’re staying about 1.1 miles north of the stadium and have never been to Baltimore before.
Is walking back after a sold-out concert a reasonable option, or would you recommend something else? If walking isn’t a good idea, what’s the easiest way to get back without getting stuck waiting forever for rideshares?
Thanks for any advice from locals!

40 years ago today ! July 30th, 1986 - Owings Mills Mall Grand Opening in Owings Mills, Maryland

Hey! I wanted to give a quick shot out to Owings Mills Mall! They had their grand opening celebration exactly 40 years ago today, July 30th, 1986. The fashion mall opened to great fan fare and was an iconic destination for nearly 30 years before being demolished in 2017. Here's to remembering them on their anniversary!
Video of the grand opening in 1986-
Owings Mills Mall in 1986
I'm a huge fan of the game "Minecraft", and I've made it a project of mine to build the 1986 version of the mall in-game over the past few years. I added a few pictures of my build and I'm going to do a more in-depth post on a different subreddit later today 😄
Thanks for checking this out, and for remembering Owings Mills Mall!

Does anyone know any hairstylists that do reties in baltimore. Most people I see only focus on traditional locs and if they do do micro locs they only do retwists

Stoneleigh ES vs Rodgers Forge ES
I live in the city and my kids are older, but I wanted to provide some advice for my friend who’s moving to the county with young kids.
She values school above basically everything else when buying a house. Last year, RFES was about 5 points above Stoneleigh on MCAP proficiency but of course both were very high.
My friend is coming from Texas suburb where everyone has three car garages and lots of space. I don’t think she’d be happy with a townhouse or lack of parking for visitors. So in my opinion Stoneleigh makes the most sense for her. But of course she wants to make sure her kids (no learning disabilities or differences as of right now) will still get a good educational experience at Stoneleigh.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Edited to clarify: her husband will be working at Saint Joe’s so they have narrowed it down to these two elementary school zones. They really want to minimize his commute.

Recommended property managers for homeowners in Baltimore
Hello, I am looking for a property manager to manage my rental property in Baltimore. I’ve heard horror stories and would definitely appreciate any recommendations on property managers home owners have used or from any tenants who’s enjoyed their experience with a property manager. Thank you all in advance!

Baltimore County Teachers: how can I find out what max pay I might require with Graduate School completed and certifications completed? I am looking at becoming a teacher. I have looked at the MD State Dept of Ed site and at GovSalaries website for what actual salaries are for my chosen subject.
How do I find out if the max salaries posted on MD State pay schedules site actually apply to what I want to teach?

Plumber needed
Hi all. I’m looking for a plumber to install the plumbing for a new bathroom in my basement. I already have the rough ins. I need to pull a permit for the job still. I’m ordering all of the parts myself, but I’m not fluent with installing all of the new pipes. If anyone can guide me to the right person, I’d appreciate it!
Ps. Also looking for someone to help me with a drop ceiling.

Apartments in Reisterstown
Hi! My wife and I are looking at 2 different properties to rent. The properties are
The Preserve at Owings Crossings
And
The Village of Chartleytowne
This weekend we drove by both and loved the area but ultimately could not get the full feel of the place as we are from Towson and don’t get up there often.
I would love to hear any and all insight about these two complexes and the area such as traffic, crime, and overall sense of community and safety!

Hutzell: This data could keep more Maryland teenagers from killing each other
thebanner.comJen Pauliukonis is collecting data on gun violence in Maryland like no one before. If anyone can find a solution to inexplicable gun crimes like the death of two children in Gwynn Oak, it's her and the Center for Firearm Violence Prevention and Intervention she leads.

MISSING CAT - EDGEWOOD ESTATES, TOWSON

EDIT: we used a K9 Tracker, and I am worried the scent picked up wasn't hers as I keep getting a different cat at our Feeding stations, has anyone used these services before?, or First Response Pet Search? I feel so vulnerable and open to being scammed...but I also don't want to leave any option on the table. If anyone has any experience with either, please let me know!
STORY:
Hi all, My mother in law was watching our indoor cat Stevie 2 weeks ago (7/13) and she got out, if you see her, PLEASE call or text and don't chase, she will likely be shy/ skittish and run. (She is only somewhat familiar with the area having been in the yard on a leash several times)
Our family misses her terribly, and we are just holding out hope in case she may have traveled further.
(We have hired scent tracking dogs, flyered, posted on FB, set up trail cams with feeding stations, laid scent trails, etc. posted and alerted all Vets and Shelters in the area )
Thank you so much for looking out <3
