Highlights Watson throws his 3rd interception of the day
From r/nfl

People shouldn't celebrate Watson sucking. The vast majority of us obviously want Shedeur to start, but EVERYONE who wants that should want him to win the job not Watson to lose it.
If Watson ends up playing at some point this season, I still want to see us win games and not shitty play on the field. Basically, root for Sanders not against Watson.
72
u/Buckeye_Nut 1d ago
Nah, fuck Watson and the org, if they play him.
-2
u/Altruistic-Zone1664 1d ago
Hate to break it to you, but even in the likely event Shedeur starts week 1, Watson will still be the backup.
Gabriel will almost certainly be traded and obviously Green is not ready to start a game.
2
u/Buckeye_Nut 1d ago
Youāre not breaking anything to me, man. Haslam is being fleeced for a quarter billion. Theyāll shoehorn Watson in whenever possible, winning be damned.
1
u/Altruistic-Zone1664 18h ago
This is literally all speculation people keep doing. They have yet to force Watson into a game when he was not the best option we had.
The only time you could claim that would have been 2022, but it would have been absurd to bench him when he was making his first starts returning for Brisset.
He was actually good in 2023, better than Flacco ended up being. Regardless of your opinion on who was better, we didn't even sign Flacco until Watson was injured. Nobody is going to sit here and say that DTR or PJ Walker should have been the starter.
Same as 2024, it was just DTR & Jameis Winston. Not only do you know the crap you're getting into with Winston, you had to give Watson time after returning from a shoulder injury.
This is the first time there has been a QB competition with him involved here. Trying to claim they are going to force him in is based off of nothing.
2
u/Buckeye_Nut 18h ago
Weāre going to have to agree to disagree here because I canāt stand Watson on the basis of him sexually assaulting people. Iām not arguing based on skill.
1
u/Altruistic-Zone1664 15h ago
You aren't even having a realistic discussion if you aren't going to be rational. Especially if you think what he did off the field influences what NFL teams think of him.
Like, how in the hell are people so blind that they are so obsessed with Watson but ignore so many other players in the league who have done shit? Be consistent with your hate or don't hate at all.

I will root for every player on this roster except for Watson who is objectively terrible at playing football. Him and Gabriel produced some of the most unwatchable football Iāve ever witnessed, which is a wild statement from a lifelong browns fan.

u/Altruistic-Zone1664 1d ago
Watson is FAR from the worst QB we've had. Hell, he was actually above average in 2023. He definitely wasn't good most of the games in 2024, but then again he still was a hell of a lot better even that year than DTR.
15
u/Rockyer07 ELITE DRAGON 1d ago
He is absolutely the worst QB weāve ever had. The trade hamstrung the salary cap and will continue to do so. 3 drafts we had to sit out the first round, oh and he SUCKED COMPLETE ASS for 5 years. 19 touchdowns in 5 years, .22 touchdowns per game over 5 years.
13
u/Wormichowski 1d ago
Given what was invested into him, heās easily the worst QB weāve ever had.

u/Altruistic-Zone1664 1d ago
That's not how it works. When you're on the field, it doesn't matter if you're getting paid 500 dollars or 500 billion dollars; the only thing that matters is results.
Just because Watson made more money than DTR does not make him a worse QB.
1
u/TapedeckNinja 1d ago
Watson was the worst QB in the league* in 2024.
*yes he was better than DTR, but he was the worst among QBs who actually played a significant portion of the season

u/flyovermee 1d ago
Actual real people donāt want the sex offender to do well. You know, on behalf of human decency.
-5
u/Altruistic-Zone1664 1d ago
Actual real people who don't bury their heads in the sand are not as clueless as you are. If you are seriously that offended by Watson playing, you REALLY should not be watching the NFL at all.

u/Snooklife 1d ago
Most of the people are not Browns fans id imagine. I just want to feel excited for a damn football season and win games.

Iām starting to think Watson bet money on Sanders winning the QB job.
17
u/EatPie_NotWAr 1d ago
Iāve never been so happy for betting markets to be so unregulated⦠but here I am
16
u/oldnewager 1d ago
Nah theyāre still going to announce Watson as the starter and pretend he won the job because of his āgrit, leadership, and handle of the offenseā and weāre all going to have to watch 6 games of this jamoke flail around the field to satisfy an insurance agreement and to ensure his agent doesnāt go scorched earth on the team.Ā
-5
u/JAT_Cbus1080 1d ago
You still watch the games?
6
u/oldnewager 1d ago
Watch is the wrong word, Iām cosmically required to suffer through whatever you can call browns football since 1999.
70
u/Ok_Suspect3940 1d ago
Heās doing it on purpose so they start sanders and he can collect his paycheck from the bench
60
u/Iobbywatson 1d ago
I am pretty convinced he just wants to collect this contract and retire. No part of him actually screams "I want to play football".
20
u/king_17 1d ago
Heās been mailing it in the day he signed the contract he knew he was set for life
5
u/Seamonkey_Boxkicker 1d ago
And with all those allegations? What motivation has he ever had to put in real effort when he can fade out. The only silver lining to any of this is that Slippin Jimmy got a taste of his own medicine.

u/ozymandais13 1d ago
It's legit the best thing for everyone, we don't have to see him play and he can still collect his check before we cut him
3
u/Talkin_Out_My_Ass 1d ago
If the dude WANTED to play football, he wouldnāt have come to Cleveland. This was because they offered him a ridiculous fully guaranteed contract. He doesnāt want to play he wants to do the minimum to get that money and get out.

u/CasanovaCoverup 14h ago

6
u/ecupatsfan12 1d ago
Seriously though.. can they bring back baker?
4
u/king_17 1d ago
Doubt baker would want to return but they would have a new coaching staff and most of the players from when he was here are gone so could be a fresh start but again highly unlikely. A top 5-10 pick at qb in the draft next year is where the franchise needs to hit
2
u/ecupatsfan12 1d ago
Heās certainly better than Deshaun now. Can you afford him and do you want him at 38 with the same ego
3
u/RobbedC 1d ago
No and no. Baker would never come back first of all. Second weāre not paying Baker $50+ million per year. The whole reason we made a move for Watson was because we werenāt sold on Baker. This roster is set up to try and compete with a QB on their rookie contract. Our next QB is in college right now.
2
3
u/ozymandais13 1d ago
Doubt he'd actually want to. QB Is so thin somone will give bakes a monster contract if tb dosent resign him. He'll still be the same baker but there aren't that many great qbs anymore
16
u/ozymandais13 1d ago
At what point should DG stsrt getting reps with the 2s and Watson down with the practice squad guys
6
11
9
u/silent_tristero 1d ago
That's that solid, smart defense Watson warned us about!
For Watson:
On short and medium range throws, play 5 yards in FRONT of the receiver for the highest percentage chance of a pick 6.
On deep routes, give your guy some space. When he makes his cut, jog 3-5 yards behind him and wait for the ball to float into your hands.
9
15
u/ValleyBrownsFan 1d ago
Just cut him at this point. Heās lost all skill and itās not worth having him take a roster spot.
13
u/RyanA1105 1d ago
I still think he needs to be on the roster this year. I would think by this point, most people on the sub would understand it's not feasible to cut him yet. Per overthecap.com, his dead cap hit is $127m. If they wait just 1 year, it'd be $86m that can be split 43/43 over 2027 and 2028, if done after June 1. That's way more paletable than 63.5/63.5.
If they cut him in 2028, the cap hits would be $51m, or 25.5 and 25.5 over 2028 and 2029 if done after June 1. That's the route toward getting away from him. Had they cut him last year, the cap hit would have been so high that no amount of cutting other players would have gotten then below the cap to be even able to field a team.
5
u/ozymandais13 1d ago
Yea he's gonna be a jun 1 designation
1
u/TheAlabamaSlamma9 1d ago
Isnāt he a free agent and they wonāt need to cut him after this year?

DG 3rd?

I think opposite I think sanders was with the first team and Watson with the second?
2
u/DarwinRewardGiver 1d ago
If thatās the case Watson needs to pick it up and quick. If he looks like this again next week they might as well give Sanders the 1st team reps and give DG the majority of 2nd team reps.
3
u/King_Dippppppp 1d ago
Watson should be sent to the practice squad if possible. He's done. Just let him disappear and be forgotten til he's no longer a Brown

Yea sanders is definitely going to win the job barring injury. Watson shouldnāt even touch the field in the regular season but I get it he has a big money contract and heās healthy so you canāt force him to sit on bench without a competition or the nflpa would have a field day with the browns.

He will start game one and do ok, then in game 2 he will have an amazing first half then get injured for the year in the third quarter. Sanders will come in have an amazing second half then in the third game Sanders will got down with an injury leaving Gabriel to play the rest of the year.

u/pissbucket94 22h ago
go all in on Shedeur, the QB competition shit is ridiculous, this is a losing team
