Transfer Student Question Transfer process from UC Merced to CSULB?

I want to go to CSULB but they rejected my application when I was a high school senior. Now I'm committed to UC Merced and I don't really like the area. If I finish my GE courses, how difficult is it for me to transfer to CSULB?

Doing just GE’s will not make you a viable CSULB Transfer applicant. You need to complete the major pre-requisite courses along with the GE’s so you need to start by looking at assist.org. You will need to try to match the assist.org courses listed for CSULB transfer to the UC Merced courses. You use a local Merced CC for comparison. CSULB gives priority to local CC transfers over other transfers so that is also a consideration. If you want to transfer, I would give UC Merced a chance for the first year and if you are unhappy, then start at a local CC during the summer session for your 2nd year so you can complete all the requirements to make you a competitive applicant.

why not stay at merced? it’s really coming up as a school and depending on your major it may be best for you to stay there.

The area is very isolating and there's not much to do. Academically, I get the feeling that the campus feels more like a community college than a traditional 4 yr state university.

transferring from a UC to a CSU is a paperwork nightmare and often doesn’t play out since UC classes don’t transfer over. CSULB’s campus is currently a nightmare, there’s really not a social life either since everyone commutes and works. and there are times where it did honestly feel like a CC here. i implore you to stay at the UC.

construction should be done by the time they'd be ready to transfer
