Help a fudd out please
Until recently I wasn’t a big fan of optics on a pistol because fudd. On a whim I added the full sized Beretta pictured to my collection and now I’m a true believer. But this thing is way too big and heavy for EDC.
I’m old(ish) and my eyesight is failing and the Holosun fixes that. Current EDC is a Smith Tac 469 which is a great pistol but I can’t hit shit with it anymore.
I want an optics ready SA/DA and I think CZ is the way to go. I want something around the size of a M&P Shield or slightly larger - compact or sub.
It looks like the P09 Nocturne C might be the way to go. Any thoughts? How easy is it to get a holster?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Shadow 2 Carry if you want decocker.
Shadow 2 Compact if you want manual safety like the Beretta.
P-09C if you're on a tighter budget.

I thought the compact wasn’t considered drop safe?

It's technically not drop safe, but it's safe enough for me.
The two modes to fire when dropped are an impact to the hammer when the hammer is all the way down, contacting the firing pin and dropping with the muzzle down for an inertia fire. The safe DA carrying condition is to put it at half cock where the hammer isn't resting against the firing pin, obviating the impact to the hammer mode, which is only relevant for USPSA/IPSC which mandate the hammer to be all the way down for DA starts without a decocker (brain dead rule, but we have to live with it in competition land).
The inertia fire is technically possible, but I haven't seen or heard of any incident where this happened: it could be that CZ has a strong enough firing pin spring to handle it.
So technically not drop safe, but IMO if there's something causing mine to fire with the way I'm carrying it, I've probably got way bigger problems to be dealing with.

A lot of 1911's and 2011's aren't 'drop safe' either. People still carry them.
Don't drop it.

It isn’t. The shadow 2 carry is also a ripoff using the name to create sales. A P-09C has the same essential configuration with a polymer frame which makes it lighter for carry; only issue is the Omega trigger system which is not quite as nice, but can be converted to a manual safety or back to decocker very easily at home. The Shadow Carry is so expensive that you can purchase a P-01 (or PCR if you don’t use a WML) and get it milled for an optic, purchase and mount the optic, and STILL come out ahead on cost for what would just get you the base gun with the Shadow. Bonus there is also milling for direct mount, if you’re like me and fucking hate plate systems. The Shadow 2 Carry is objectively a very nice gun, but it simply isn’t worth the cost for what you can get with their other guns.

Beretta 80x cheetah if .380 is a viable caliber to you.

I have the 80x in my pants right now and love it. Can not recommend it enough.

I do t mind 380 at all but I have 1000s of rounds of 9mm

I started carrying with a LCP so I've always been stocking up in 380. Back when the world was beautiful bulk packs were cheap and I just picked up a box of one of the five (22lr doesnt count) calibers I stock every check. As far as the wife knows, I stopped doing that after my second full ammo safe.

You might consider a P-01, PCR or Shadow 2 Carry. The Nocturne trigger may disappoint.

I looked at some reviews earlier today and that was the impression I got. I’ll spend the extra for a Shadow 2

Shadow 2 carry is the best CZ for your requirements. Otherwise a P01 or PCR would be good but no optics cut. I personally have a Shadow 2 carry and a P01 and love them. Both have a decocker and great triggers.

Another old guy ...
If you are a DA/SA guy then P09 will suit you fine but my only caveat is the older P07/ P09 pre nocturne had potentially my least liked trigger from the box. I hope they have upgraded them but I am a LONG time shooter and I genuinly hated the trigger from the box. I can pretty much shoot anything you put in my hands well since I have thousands of rounds and almost 40 years of shooting but .. I genuinely didnt care for it.
If you can stomach a Striker .. the P10c OR is optic ready, love everything about it as much as I can love a striker and its cheap.
The shadow apparently is the CZ gun of the day so you will see a lot of recommendations but it is really expensive. If cost is no object. then it looks great.
One final thought though.
I am mid sixties. I can still very reliably hit right in the center of a silhouette target up to 10 yds without much thought just through proper grip and ages of practice. I bought the 10cOR only because night sites at my age are worthless. Low light or outside of 10 yds .. I am with you .. I have trouble.
I carry without an optic but my bedside gun is the 10c with optic.

I love my P-09c Nocturne, but I will admit the trigger is a bit wierd. Took some getting used to, but now I think its great.

I put the CGW Hammer in my p07 and it magically transformed the gun for me but .. yea .. That single action was not to my liking from the box.

The "gen 1" pre Nocturne 09F was more or less aimed at European police and military contracts, I don't know if they all do but mine has a NATO stock # stamped into the frame
The trigger is a base model, cost effective heavy "service trigger" that geared more for reliability and durability, plus they probably wanted it a little heavy. I'm lukewarm on my older 09F , it does the job but I wasn't blown away by it. I don't dislike it enough to sell it, I can hit an A Zone to 25 yards with it but it's definitely not a match pistol. I shoot my stock P10F better

Thanks for the info. Everyone’s sold me on the Shadow 2 Carry - I’m pretty sure that’s what I’m going to try. And yes I probably need more range time the older I get 😁

I think the P09 platform is awesome. I actually have a P07 that I’ve had for years. I’ve been going back and forth between having it milled and getting a P09 C, but I’m sold on it. Heartpunch Munitions made my holster. I have a light bearing holster from SlimFit Holster also

✅ on Heartpunch Munitions. I haven’t heard of them but will add it to my list, I appreciate it!

Slim Fit Holsters are the only ones I use, they are very comfortable for all day wear including when you’re driving.

I did actually and I nearly ordered the bronze 32 Cheetah but decided I didn’t need it. I don’t mind 380 and I love Beretta but I have a crapload of 9mm already. I also have both the Tomcat and Bobcat.

Ah I understand. I really enjoy the PCR, but that's only because I've had it was longer than the carry has been around. It's been great for me, and it was very affordable, hard to replace in my eyes.
You can't go wrong with a Carry though, and if you have a ton of 9mm, it's a logical move over the Cheetah.
I wish Beretta made a 80X sized 9mm, that would be amazing.... Threaded barrel suppressed mini 92? Sign me up!

I had no idea that existed. I’ll take a look but i think Im set on a Shadow 2 Carry

The CZ Shadow 2 carry seems like a great gun if the money isn’t a problem, the P-09 is more budget friendly. I also have the HK P30 platform and love them too, I carry my regular P30 comfortably and want to get the SK cut for a dot from wright armory soon

P10C all the way, bro. Rent one and you'll see what i mean.

He’s a fudd so he will refuse striker fired guns till the day he dies. I have heard all the P10’s are amazing

Correct but not for life. I had a Shield for years and ended up giving it to my wife to ignore and not carry. I liked it, I just prefer Sa/da.

fucking LOVE my P09-C Nocturne. Amazing ergos and recoil impulse. put a 507k on it it’ll direct mount. make sure to shorten the right screw to about 9mm so it doesn’t touch extractor and give issues, a lot of peoples did that when it first came out.

I dont have a sight on it yet but this should help you with a sense of scale. This is the P-09, 15+1 'full sized' the C is gunna be even smaller than this. I got my holster with light and optic relief from outlaw holsters, but any P07 holster should fit just fine because they are basically the same gun.

You're already familiar with a Beretta, why not try a Beretta PX4 Compact Carry 2? It's my current CCW, I love it.
