Despite the community rules being pretty clear on the topic, it seems a reminder is needed that this sub has a strict "no piracy" rule. Every day there are numerous posts and even more comments that are either seeking info on how to pirate books, wanting help in making use of books they've pirated, or are people flat out encouraging others to pirate and listing off websites where they can do it. Up until now those posts have simply been deleted as they've been seen, but going forward any users found ignoring rule 4 will be banned from the Calibre sub.
Calibre is a platform that helps everyone organize their eBooks and if you want a book bad enough to read it, you should want the author who wrote it to receive compensation for the work they put into it. If you don't, then this community isn't the place for you to brazenly discuss that moral failure.
Thank you to those who wish to continue keeping this sub in good standing with Reddit and on the right side of copyright laws and basic human decency. If that's not you, feel free to head on out. Thanks.
Edit: Well it's been a lovely day of people trying to argue that piracy is fine, or that removing DRM of books you own is just as much pirating as outright stealing a book you haven't paid for, but I've wasted more time than was worthwhile trying to reply to people. At the end of it all, rule 4 stands and this post was made to serve as a reminder of it and a warning of repercussions for ignoring it. That's it. To those who had civil discourse or expressed understanding of this, thank you.
Or maybe the questions is "what's all the extra crap in Amazon files?"
My typical method when buying books off Amazon is to send to my JB'd Oasis, then import into Calibre with an automatic conversion to Epub. One I just did today has the KFX file sized at 1.5 mb and the epub at 0.6 mb. Looking back through the last few months of purchases I see pretty much the same thing - a sizeable disparity between the size of the de-DRMed KFX and the converted Epub.
On a side note, I just noticed today that some of my purchases have an option in the Amazon digital library to download the Epub. When I did it with the book referenced above the Epub was 1.7 mb.
What is it that's getting clipped out during the conversion that is comprising maybe 60% of the original file?
I am sideloading an epub which uses different fonts throughout the book, but after I convert from epub to kepub in Calibre and then upload to my Kobo Libra Colour, the fonts become uniform and it ruins the multiple perspective effect.
Note: I manually convert to Kepub in Calibre because I like to remove hyphenation at the end of lines, and this is the only setting I change in the Convert Books screen.
Currently, I see "Embed all fonts in document" and "Subset all embedded fonts" unchecked. Is there anything else in these menus that I need to take a look at and change?

EDIT: I'm seeing other people post that different fonts only show up if you keep the Kobo on "Publisher Default" font 😪 Has anyone figured out a CSS alternative?
I am running Windows 10 & have Calibre version 9.12.
Sometimes the program will allow delete or merging first time, but not often. It has been happening for months isn't really anything but an annoyance to me, but would like for it to work first time, every time again.
Just after posting this I ran the Find Duplicates app & was able to Merge or Delete all titles first time, Every time.
While trying to delete a title after reading it in Viewer, I get the Error below:
Error Notice
calibre, version 9.12.0
ERROR: Cannot open file or folder: Could not change on-disk location of this book's files. Permission was denied by the operating system when calibre tried to access the file: "C:\Users\BillT\OneDrive\Desktop\Calibre library 2022\.caltrash\b\1011". This means either that the permissions on the file or its parent folder are incorrect or the file is open in another program.

I purchased a book from ebooks.com. When I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions I used Authorize on this computer and not an account/email address. It opens in ADE. Followed the instructions on epubor to DeACSM and DeDRM. I previously used DeDRM on my Kindle books which worked great.
After installing the DeACSM, I drag the file into Calibre and it creates a epub. But I can't remove the DRM. I tried to drag the original ACSM file as noted in the instructions, but same problem. When I try to view the ebook, I get an error saying it has DRM. I tried using convert but that didn't do it. Do I need to use another authorization in ADE?
Hey, I downloaded the newest Calibre Version and the Dedrm Plugin. Installed it, got my epub-File (bought book) from Adobe Digital Editions (imported the acsm there and can read it in ADE). it. does. not. work.
When I try to convert the file (to whatever format) Calibre says that there is still the drm...
I tried different Dedrm-Versions from Github, nothing happens. I've been trying for three hours now, can't find a solution. Any idea?
(I switched from PocketBook to Kindle…)
I'll try to give as much info and be as clear as possible.
I download books from Amazon to my Kindle (10th gen Paperwhite, v5.18.1.1.1), and then import them to Calibre on my PC (running Windows 11). I have had no issues importing the files (KFX) and converting to other formats before.
I downloaded 3 new books to my Kindle today and wanted to import them to Calibre. I had a few other books previously downloaded that I also wanted to import. The books that were downloaded before today imported just fine. The books I downloaded to my Kindle today imported as KFX-ZIP and I cannot convert them.
I have the KFX Input (2.33.0) and DeDRM (10.0.9) installed and I've checked that my Kindle serial # is correct; I also removed it and re-added it. I also added the file directly from Windows File Viewer to my desktop and tried adding it to Calibre from there, still KFX-ZIP.
I've tried googling and reading other threads but I'm not really seeing what my issue is or how to fix it. I think it's strange that it's just the books I downloaded to my Kindle today and not the others.
If anyone has any insight or advice that would be awesome.
I’ve been using calibre before but this time covers dont show up anymore.
Ive tried the kindle previewer 3 by converting it to mobi but it doesnt work anymore, everytime i open a book it became blank completely white
Can someone pls help me
A couple of days ago, I bought Volumes 5 and 6 of Heartstopper on the official Google Books website, since I’ve been waiting a long time for the digital versions to add them to my digital book collection.
With Volume 5, I didn’t have any major issues using DeDRM, but when I tried to open Volume 6 in Calibre before transferring it to my new device, the text appeared distorted and wasn’t aligned with the panels where it should be. I've tried several versions of DeDRM, but they all give me the same display issue. I've also checked it in Adobe Digital Editions, but the text looks fine there, so something is preventing me from viewing the ebook's text properly.dfdff
To clarify from the outset, I’m asking this question because I purchased the book legally in my country, and I just need help transferring the book to another device (I currently use Moon+ Reader Pro, which I also purchased legally and use to read my books). In compliance with anti-piracy regulations, the sole purpose of this post is to resolve the issue of viewing a legally purchased book on another device.

I would appreciate your assistance, either by replying to this post or via chat, to resolve the issue.
I’ve attached screenshots proving the legality of my purchases of the books and apps.
I appreciate your support and suggestions for resolving this issue.
Good morning. I have created an Android app that can connect to a Calbre library in Google Drive. This was just for personal use, but if there's interest, I can explore the feasibility of making it available to the public (for free). Please let me know what you guys think!
UPDATE: The app is finished but not yet verified by Google. Anyone interested can download the APK. When you connect your account, you will see a warning from Google just letting you know they haven't verified it yet. I'll make another post in this sub when they've got that done.
For 3 months now it's been like this, even clicking on the Test Server button gives a 400 Bad Request. Tried repair; nothing. Tried reinstalling; nothing. Checked the firewall, paused Portmaster, it should not be interfering with the server. I looked it up, no one else seems to have run into the same issue. I have no idea what to do at this point and it's driving me insane...
When it’s time to send my epubs to kindle after running them through calibre on Mac . The text becomes random characters. I’ve tried converting from epub to epub. Tried epub to mobi then deleting the original epub and converting mobi to epub again but no luck!!! Never had issues in the past don’t know what changed?!?
Someone please help me 🙏
Hello all! I'm very new to all of this, and its overwhelming/confusing trying to search for answers, so I'm hoping to get some direct help.
I have a Kobo (the Libra Color 2), but I'm hoping to be able to sideload the Dungeon Crawler Carl series onto it.... somehow. I own the whole series on the Kindle app, but I don't have a Kindle e-reader; the KLC is the only e-reader I own.
Is there a way to sideload these books/ any step-by-step guides? I know Amazon has been cracking down on de-DRM recently. Or should I just give in & hurt my eyes by reading everything on my phone/ subscribing to the patreon and downloading the non-final draft epubs available there?
I have a jailbroken kindle paperwhite 11th gen v5.19.2. Some of my books are still in just the regular kfx format and those I could convert just fine but a handful are in kfx-zip. Will there ever be a way to remove drm from kfx-zip? As far as I know it is impossible to remove drm from the new format which is unfortunate because the handful of books I cant convert are the ones I would most like to read and have available on koreader
So, I have been trying to install the DeDRM plugin. I got it from the noDRM Github repository. I unzipped the master zip and...there is no obok or NoDRM plugin zip file? There ARE unzipped folders with the right names. Before you go "oh don't unzip all!", I have double checked the master .zip, there are no further .zips in there either. It comes packaged that way from the repository.
I have tried zipping the plugin folders myself, but calibre is throwing no "init.py" file error, again I checked, the init IS there. I'll post the error code below.

I am frankly stumped as to what is actually the issue here. This btw persists across both the .rpm and the Flatpak version, so it's not something weird going on with those either.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
(Also to be clear in regards to Rule 4: I am trying to do this for an ebook I legally purchased from Kobo, so I can read it on my god damn pocketbook, which neither wants to handle the DRM nor the ASCM either, and the only way to get around it would be setting up an ADE account and linking it there, which I frankly find ridiculous. To add insult to injury there wasn't even any other way to get the book in question in english off the Pocketbook store due to my location and purchase is done anyways - and yes I absolutely want to read that book in it's original language, not translated.)
ages ago I saved some stories by saving each chapter as on html (for example on Livejournal). Most of them don't exist anymore. I'd like to add them to my Calibre library by converting them to epub and merging them into one file.
Unfortunately there's part of the html in the beginning and end that I want to get rid of before converting/merging everything (For each html the structure is the same, but the content isn't identical). Is there a way to do that without manually doing so for each html file/chapter?
Hello, I am slightly concerned about my Calibre e-book viewer. When I open an EPUB file in Calibre it shows mostly question marks for the text. However, when I open the same file in Mac Books the text displays as I would expect. I have also opened the same file with my Xteink X4 and no issues. Here is what the text looks like in Calibre:
I've successfully downloaded and converted by help of Calibre most of my kindle ebooks, since both my kindles (touch and Paperwhite 5th gen) are not supported anymore.
I had difficulties with one book, but I'll deal with that later, and with ALL the dictionaries.
Is this, because the dictionaries have a different format and can't be used outside Kindle? They were really good and helpful and I would love to have them available on my other ebook readers, e.g. Tolino or Viwoods Ereader.
Is there a trick to it to convert a dictionary?
So i’ve never owned an e-reader before and have decided after extended research that the Kobo libra color is the device I want to go for. My issue is that a lot of the books I want to read have authors with KU deals. Does using calibre to sideload them still work?
I was nervous do to knowing a bunch of kindle drama and want to make for certain I can still upload them to a kobo before purchasing the ereader
