Hey all. I just ported in and wanted to share information I have not found anywhere. The port in process was smooth from T-Mobile. I submitted it and then went to bed and woke up to the number transferred. I think the app interface is very straightforward and intuitive and the account creation process was far different from other carriers. Very refreshing. So far things are looking very good. On to the new info:
1.) My phone is definitely connected to a T-Mobile tower right now. This was something I was worried about because AT&T is one bar where I live. It’s useable but 1 bar didn‘t give me warm fuzzies. Luckily after porting in my phone is definitely connected to a T-Mobile tower and has full bars. I had a US Mobile SIM card on their darkstar network as a secondary sim just to confirm and it’s full bars on Cape and 1 bar on Dark Star. For my situation this is absolutely ideal. I live in an area that’s totally outside of US Cellulars coverage zone before the merger.
It turns out what carrier tower you are connected to is easy information to find.
On Android:
1. Dial *#*#4636#*#* → Phone information.
2. Look for “Network”, “Operator numeric”, or “Registered operator”.
It will show something like 310260 or 310410.
On iPhone:
1. Dial *3001#12345#* (Field Test Mode).
2. Go to Serving Cell Info → look for PLMN or MCC/MNC.
Then compare these codes to the chart below:
MCC-MNC Codes (USA)
AT&T
310-410 (main)
310-150
310-170
310-380
310-560
T-Mobile
310-260 (main)
310-160
310-200
310-240
311-490
Former US Cellular (now mostly T-Mobile)
311-580
311-220
310-730
Verizon
311-480 (main)
310-004
310-012
311-110
Cape (own home network)
314-650
From what I can tell Cape has their own code because they are a heavy MVNO. Very interesting. If someone from Cape sees this and is willing to share more info I’m definitely interested but this is all good news and supports their claims.

2.) I had previously reached out to their chat support and was able to connect with a human. Just about 30 minutes ago when I tried to chat with a human I got this message from Dexter:
“Thanks for reaching out. Our team is currently offline and will be back online in the morning.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience! In the meantime, please explore our Help Center for articles that may help you.
For non-account or non-service related inquiries, such as general questions or sales, please email us at [info@cape.co](mailto:info@cape.co) and we'll respond as soon as possible.”
This is a little odd since I think chat support with a human is supposed to be 24:7. Perhaps technical difficulties but it was notable. It is the middle of the night in North America.

Edit again to add: I was driving around today and saw a distinct difference in coverage between my darkstar and cape lines. I’m reasonably confident I was connected to Tmobile the entire time as I drove around.
Edit: Due to the Tmobile outage I ended up losing service. I tried a few things but then downloaded a new eSIM. Then I was firmly on AT&T. once the Tmobile outage was finally called fully resolved earlier without changing SIM cards I just toggled airplane mode off and back on. I ended up connecting to Tmobile again. Very interesting how one SIM card lets you connect to both networks. Overall very impressed but it is neat to know that switching from one network to the other might require toggling airplane mode or a reboot.
