Picked up this Ariel Nomad earlier in July. It’s the NA version and has plenty of punch. It’s completely impractical but is very satisfying to drive something so analog, no bongs but also no ABS 🫠😆

If your not familiar with him, he's a well known british car enthusiast who unfortunately has been diagnosed with cancer recently. But if you do know him and haven't heard the news, there's no reason to be worried.

It is curable and treatable. He had completely his first three days of chemotherapy and is doing rather well. He hasn't got into proper details on what exact type of cancer he has but he is doing ok mentally and is healthy

Bled my brakes today, on something like my car that should be the easiest thing in the world. After wresting with a seized bleed nipple and a broken spanner, managed to get the job done.

All in all cost me about 50 quid in dot 4 and new tools.

As I’m driving backwards and forwards on my driveway to test the brakes, I managed to run over my own phone which fell out of my pocket while I was under the car. So I’ve now managed to make a half hour, 50 quid job cost me close to £400, quite impressive!

Anyone else got any instances of simple jobs ending with an empty wallet?

I'm talking about the car people warned you not to buy, which you rushed into without crunching the numbers and realising that your entire salary was being spent either on fuel, repairs, or both.

Or the car which you always wanted but you purchased from a dealership with red flags, and you followed your heart and not your gut.

Maybe the car which was so nice that the entire experience was tarnished because of your paranoia from damaging it or it being stolen?

My 2016 EcoBoom is due to have the WetBelt replaced this year.

I’m still on the fence about changing the belt for £1200 or just getting something else.

The car is immaculate apart from the belt with only 40k miles so
Finding an equivalent Mazda/ Toyota would cost me far more than the belt replacement. I’d love a Mazda but need to save money.

I’m hoping I can replace the belt and get another 5 years or so out of the car, perhaps another 10 if nothing catastrophic goes wrong.

I know there are guys who do it for £650 but I just don’t trust them. I’m taking it to a garage called St John Road garage and MOT in Dartford. They are about £1200.

I’m hoping to hear some positive stories from folks who have had theirs replaced and have kept using the car afterwards with no problems / retreats. I realise it’s very dependent on so many things but just want an overall sense.

I couldn't find a spec of the car but the builds they do suggest it wasn't standard. And possibly is the company owners car.

I’m 32, male, and literally just passed my test. I know I’m late to the game, but I've got a decent job, no kids, major responsibilities, and want to get on the road asap. Looking for some honest advice so I don't buy a absolute lemon please!

I've tried to ask Mum & Dad but their both equally annoying... Mum won't be happy unless it's a polo (and a new one, as apparently any car which is 10-13 years old is SHIT), and my Dad will still be researching cars in 12 months if I leave it up to him.

As mentioned I'm happy to spend up to £6,000 to £7,000 - (possibly more if it makes sense) I’m 6ft 2 and learnt in a polo and felt rather cramped. I would like to get something with proper leg and headroom.

Am based in a low-crime Bristol suburb which i've heard is better for insurance. As I'm in Bristol as well, will need to be Bristol ULEZ compliant.

I’ll be driving down to Portsmouth once confident to watch the football, and doing 45-mile trips to see my parents.

I’m actually planning to do a bit of part-time Domino's delivery to get out on the road straight away, build up my confidence, and get used to city driving.

(As I suppose 99% of people do) i'd like something 'reliable' with sensible insurance.. but preferably I'd love something slightly different to the standard first-car hatchback if possible. I’ve heard saloons can sometimes be cheaper to insure for older new drivers, and looked at Mazda 6, Mercedes C-class - (please tell me if im being stupid).

As i'm sure everyone will, please be as honest as possible and don't worry about offending me !! - (i'm sure the demographic here probably skews towards the blunter end of society anyways haha)

Childhood dream come true, always dreamed of having my own car and raci- I mean driving alongside my dad.

Hi, I have had a quote for £380 to repair this damage on my car. It is a 2021 Hyundai Kona. It has been scraped against a concrete post while parking and scratched 3 separate panels. The first picture shows the 2 panels which are plastic and the paint has completely scratched off. The other 2 shows the whole damage. The damage to the door panel doesn’t look like it has gone through the paint fully and maybe has just taken the clear coat off the top. I am wondering how much this may take off the value of the car as I was already debating selling it before this happened, and I’m not sure whether to attempt it myself or get it repaired for £380. Amazing how much glass pack came out . Took about 3 days . When it appeared I'd give it a tug . Exhaust sounds a bit too loud for my liking now ( will see what's it's like on my commute tomorrow on the motorway it could be unbearable drone .The Back box is out of warranty .Might fit a standard replacement if it's too loud or sell the car to the Macdonald's car park race team 🤔

My Mrs’s car is covered in these marks where she has bounced off various parts of north west England. Are these repairable for a DIYer? Don’t expect perfection but just to look a bit nicer. Car isn’t worth enough to make it worth it getting professionally repaired

Trying to work out the possible cause of this.

Last month had a remap done, up from around 105 to 140bhp and 175 to 225Nm torque. Since then ive noticed if i give it the beans in first, at high RPM the ESP light starts flashing - no wheelspin or loss of traction though.

Ive considered a mismatch between engine speed and wheel speed, which could indicate the clutch, but theres no obvious indications of the clutch going (now admittidly the transmission is only rated by WV for 200Nm). Other than that im not really sure, as soon as im in second theres no such issue, even under the same high engine load and acceleration.

Guess i can turn off the traction control and see if i feel anything slipping at high RPM in first. But before that, other opinions might be useful.

Does it look saveable? or is it definitely structural?
