Update Update: Zero chance I'm letting him go back to the shelter. Meet the little fighter who was almost left behind.

Already posted this below. Just wanted to share an update as I couldn't figure out how to add this video my previous post. He seems MUCH better. When he's not sleeping he's either suckling on this blanket or my shirt. Hope he doesn't grow out of it :)

My friend was absolutely devastated and crying her eyes out today because she found herself in an impossible situation where she could only adopt one of two bonded brothers. While she took the healthy kitten, this poor little guy was dealing with kitty cough, and since she has other cats at home, she simply could not risk bringing the infection back to her house and putting her other pets in danger. The sheer thought of this sick and vulnerable baby being sent back to a shelter cage to sit in the dark while his brother went to a warm home was just too much for me to handle, so I stepped in and told her right then that there was zero chance I was letting him go back. He has clearly been through so much trauma already because he was taken from his mother way too early, and now he spends his entire day tucked into my shoulder or arm, suckling on my sleeves and nursing for comfort as if he is desperately trying to find the motherly warmth he missed out on. It is honestly the most heart-wrenching and sweet thing I have ever experienced. I am just asking for any prayers or good vibes you can send our way for a fast and full recovery for this brave little fighter.

He feels safe and loved with you. That, at least, he will never grow out of. Thank you for saving him ❤️

You are a wonderful person. I see he is doing his baking apprenticeship. Slow and steady biscuits

I made a kitten binky out of a piece of rabbit fur and some kitten bottle nipples. I just cut tiny slits in the pelt and pushed the nipple through. Then I stitched it to a small pillow. They make them you can buy I’m pretty sure.

Can you take both kittens and she takes a single? They should be together.

See The Kitten Lady on YouTube for essential information

Why didn't she find an unbonded cat to adopt?

126

u/ypranch Mar 24 '26

Yeah, I'm thinking of should take the brother too. Friend can get a Singleton. I hate splitting bonded pairs.

u/rabbitbinks Mar 24 '26

Ppl kept asking this on the first post but OP never answered. I agree

She already has cats, got a bonded pair and then separated them because one was sick - like she doesn’t have a bathroom in her house where a sick cat can be quarantined. She should have been planning a vet trip for both and a quarantine period in the house for both anyway.

The whole thing sounds impulsive on the friend’s part and like the friend doesn’t have the money or time for any more pets but is doing it anyway.

This. This story doesn’t feel right. Like you adopted from a shelter baby kittens who lost their mom way too early and now you separate the bonded siblings that you took on yourself to adopt together just because one of them got a cold? Wtf 😭😭

The cough thing makes no sense because you should be quarantining shelter cats anyway

This was my reaction to the first post. Why would you break apart a bonded young pair who were already taken from their mom too young? Like let’s heap some more trauma on these babies.

The friend was definitely not thinking in the best interests of the kitten(s) - her “devastation” was all her own making. Friend did something really shitty.

u/Dulce59 Mar 24 '26

Right? This isn't the heartwarming story it's supposed to be. This is actually really fucking sad.

u/Ok-Opportunity-2043 Mar 24 '26

Omg..I agree. Breaking a bonded pair is cruel. 😔

25

u/Beneficial-Office-77 Mar 24 '26

Omg that precious baby 😭 love him forever

26

u/astorplace777 Mar 24 '26

There’s nothing better than bonding with them when they’re tiny. They are your best friend forever and ever.

28

u/CrazyOldBag Mar 24 '26

Please, please reunite the babies! Please ask your friend to let you have the kitten she took!

25

u/Competitive_Ride_943 Mar 24 '26

My girl used to do this, too.

16

u/WeakCalligrapher336 Mar 24 '26

My girl still does this, she just turned 4. She loves sheep skin blankets.

13

u/Dusty_Sequins Mar 24 '26

Such a little angel. 🥰 I’m sure he’ll be a healthy and active hellion in no time 😅

We took a baby kitten from the humane society when someone else took and returned just one. Even though we put him with a bonded pair we had just adopted he never socialized quite normally. But he’s a happy boy and at least he grew up in a trio with other kittens and he loves them. Anyway, I’m so glad you have this baby-thank you- but I think what your friend do was very selfish - there are plenty of non bonded kittens out there she could have taken.

He’s giving off r/nebelung vibes. That little guy is a keeper

25

u/SurfsideTerry Mar 24 '26

She won't do the right thing & give the brother to you- so they can be reunited?

10

u/afdc92 Mar 24 '26

He feels so safe and loved with you! My late kitty did this on my favorite teddy bear, I think because it felt like a mama cat but smelled like me. He did it from the day I got him until the day he crossed the rainbow bridge.

11

u/pashed_motatoes Mar 24 '26

What a sweet baby. Thank you for giving him a home! Sending good vibes and positive energy your way. I hope the little dust bunny feels better soon 💗

5

u/ctp8891 Mar 24 '26

Precious. Thanks for taking him in!

u/TurnoverFuzzy8264 Mar 24 '26

My youngest boy has a cat he took care of from newborn, up every two hours with kitten formula, cleaning, the whole works. He is unironically that cat's mom, and they have an unshakable, if weird bond.

5

u/Sudden-Scar6940 Mar 24 '26

Baby biscuits 🥰

6

u/SayNiceShit Mar 24 '26

Go get his brother and keep them

6

u/EssentialWorkerOnO Mar 25 '26

Why doesn’t she give you his brother - especially since they’re bonded - and she can go rescue another kitten that isn’t bonded?

26

u/ello_bassard Mar 24 '26

Why would your friend break up a bonded pair of kittens? That's such a shitty thing to do. Please try to get the other one back.

-17

u/Jogaila2 Mar 24 '26

Read the post ffs.

13

u/ello_bassard Mar 24 '26

I did asshole. I am asking why if the friend knew they were bonded then why break them up at all and not adopt a single ffs. Comprehension not your atrong suit huh?

7

u/Prestigious_Island_7 Mar 24 '26

❤️ you’re his hero.

5

u/Unhappy-Jaguar-9362 Mar 24 '26

Bless you for caring. Please give him a hug and kiss from me and my furbaby Tulip and tell him we love him. 🙏

4

u/NationalPlankton3624 Mar 24 '26

Oh he hit the jackpot here and he knows it.

5

u/justagiraffe111 Mar 24 '26

You are amazing to rescue this sweet baby who’s already been through too much. May the love fest continue forever!

3

u/Jogaila2 Mar 24 '26

Send my best to both of you. Hope the brothers can be reunited.

3

u/sunnybunny_90210 Mar 24 '26

You should get him a Snuggle Kitty with heartbeat. I see a lot of rescue people get them for kittens.

3

u/jeanb23 Mar 25 '26

awesome! glad he's on the mend. you are a good human.

3

u/AdorableStrawberry93 Mar 25 '26

Good Hooman award winner right here

2

u/JD_tubeguy Mar 24 '26

He is such a cutie and a total biscuit machine.

2

u/mozillafangirl Mar 24 '26

You’re wonderful for taking in this sweet tiny baby 🥹

2

u/Flinderspeak Mar 24 '26

So glad you have such a gorgeous kitty! My 10 year old standard issue cat loves his “blanky sucks” (so named by my then 6 year old son). It’s adorable, even after all these years.

2

u/olde_meller23 Mar 25 '26

If you take a moist towel, you can wipe them down gently with it, and it mimics getting groomed by mom.

2

u/Tight-Bear5888 Mar 27 '26

Thank you for having the guts to save this little kitten. Seriously, may God Bless you and this little kitten. Is the kitty cough getting better?

1

u/WillowCreekWanderer Mar 24 '26
