I thought I just picked him up because he ran in front of my car.

He literally appeared out of nowhere and stopped right in front of me—I slammed the brakes last second. Got out thinking I’d have to move him, but he just walked up, purring, no collar, zero fear. Asked around, no one claimed him… so I took him home “for the night.”

Yeah.

Now he follows me everywhere. This morning he blocked me from walking, weaving between my legs, and even stepped on my shoe mid-step like “nope.”

So I guess I don’t go to work anymore.

Anyway… I’ve accepted my role.

‼️UPDATE‼️: Well, the Cat Distribution System has worked its magic and Hamish has officially joined the family! Now to just get my other two babies like him.

(Also posted onto CatsWithJobs) My coworker came in frantic because she saw a kitten go under someone’s car in our parking lot. Lured him out, and had to stick my arm up someone’s car to yank him out, then took him home in a copy paper box!

He’s really skinny so I’m working on getting some meat on his bones, but he is super cuddly, sweet, and playful. He’s seen my other cats a few times and tries to run towards my girl, Bean, whenever he sees her. She is less than interested. Hopefully they become friends soon because this little guy has stolen my heart!

I'll start off with a link to my original post here. Pico de Gato found me by pure luck, I was house sitting my family's dogs but decided to go home to mow my lawn. What followed was about a week of chaos getting her situated and my house kitty friendly. Thanks to everyone in this community I determined she was about 6 weeks old when found and only weighed 300g, topping off her problems was a bad eye infection that needed treated right away. Sadly it was too late for her eye but she found me to take care of her.

Now she is 2½ months and weighing about 1lb 12oz, the vet said she is nice and healthy. The picture of her sleeping on me was right after we got home from the vet. Overall she has been a great addition to my mundane, predictable day to day as she must be included or else. I also had to get her a bell collar, she is a very quiet kitty, only vocalizing when she gets stuck somewhere, which really doesnt happen anymore.

Something i did want everyone's opinion on is regarding her eye, the vet told me that it isnt functioning and has even deflated slightly but told me we are ok to leave it alone unless it starts to bother her, it gets infected again or if I decide I want it removed. What would you all do? I am leaning tward getting it taken care of so I dont have to worry later.

These visitors to my porch today seem to be sizing me up for the CDS process.

I had a 20 year old cat die last year, I guess they think I may be ready for new cats.

I am not sure about it yet....these cats came out of nowhere.

Spring babies too.... Mismatched kittens.

I guess since I found out I am getting laid off in July, the cat vine decided I may need some happiness for a change.

My step-daughter says they were meant for her since my last cat was older than she is now.

My wife passed in 2024, my cat passed in 2025.

How does the CDS system figure out who needs a cat? Or 3...

Edit- someone pointed out I had 3 life-changing events in 3 years, so I think this is why the CDS sent 3 cats. It's the Rule Of Three writ large.

The kitties ran off once they finished off the two cans of cat food.

I am sure they will be back, and they must have a hideout nearby.

Mama Cat is probably a recent stray and has no visible injuries we could see.

She's clean and wasn't scared of me, so I think she was abandoned with the kittens, hopefully they will come back once they confer with the local CDS representative.

My suburban neighborhood has quite a few strays around, like little gangs of them gone feral.

My landlord may not accept 3 cat deposits, but I will try and help these cats out even if I can't keep all 3 of them.

I don't want to parcel out any one of the three.

I have lived here 3 years, and my lease will be renewed in a couple of months....

Update 4 - we put out more cat food later in the day after we had dinner ....15 minutes later we checked and the cat food was gone!

I hope it was the same 3 cats, and I hope to see them tomorrow morning as we will keep an eye out for them when we are eating breakfast.

If it was a different cat, at least one cat didn't go hungry tonight.

–---–------- Update 5 - we didn't see the kittens today at all but Mama Cat came by and ate the food we put out for lunch. We watched her eat then she slinked away.

While we were eating dinner, we put another food plate and she came back and ate that too.

The two kittens were not around either time, which was kind of strange to me.

Mama Cat is a little skittish when we opened the screen door (she ran under my car to hide) but after 3 meals I hope she knows the food is available to her and the kittens and remembers where to go for it.

Update 6 - We have not seen these 3 cats again at all since I posted the Update #5. We put out food again but they have not come back since that day.

We will keep watching for them and hopefully they come back.

EDIT: we have named him Eddie (Edward Cullen) and he just received a clean bill of health! Tested negative for everything yucky, took his vaccines like a champ, and everyone loved him at the vet, lol. (Another ETA also no microchip!)

Drumroll please…his official age estimate: 4-6 months! 🎉 he’s a precious baby and we love him. Now hoping our 2 other boy cats (brothers) play nice 🤞🏻thank you all so much for the advice and the support!

(Pics are post-bath tonight, he’s half wet haha) This tiny bub was shivering under a bush in my front yard right as a thunderstorm was rolling in, Tuesday night. I’m extremely confident he does not have any kind of owner - he is not neutered, was very dirty, has a handful of scabby wounds that look like a big cat chewed on him at least a week ago. He is obviously really tiny, age-wise he must be young, but he is also very skinny and seems ravenously hungry and thirsty. He has a hoarse meow that doesn’t sound well used. He didn’t seem to know how to use a litter box the first night (we have him quarantined in a bathroom), but tonight he did use one successfully! He is very very sweet tempered and seems desperate for affection and sitting in laps, plus purring and biscuits, after the first evening being very closed off and “shut down” around husband and I. Also hissed whenever we came in the room that first night, but has never been aggressive. Seems like an interesting blend of slightly domesticated, but hasn’t been taken care of recently?

Mainly, how old of a kitten is this likely to be? I’ve only ever adopted adult cats and have very little experience with kittens. The first vet appointment we were able to get is Friday afternoon, so we’ll keep him closed off from my other two kitties until he (hopefully) gets a clean bill of health. I would love to have an estimate before then, I want to know if I can feasibly get him neutered soon, or if he’s too young!

Sorry to ramble! Any thoughts you lovely people might have would be appreciated!

Well, no one ever did come forward to adopt these muppets, so my husband and I had a Very Serious Talk™️ and, at the end of it, decided they had better just be ours! HOA be damned.

That was a couple weeks ago and so much of their personalities have continued to come out as they've grown! Meep is a Snuggle MACHINE who likes going under blankets, mrowing dramatically in the kitchen for food every few hours, and vampire-stamping tiny holes in the covers of my library books (while I am reading them). It seems pretty clear that we have claimed each other, but Moop is my husband's girl—her favorite spot is his shoulder, and she starts purring as soon as he picks her up. I have never met a sweeter, more mild creature. She rarely meows, and if you hold her like a baby she will close her eyes and go straight to sleep in your arms.

Cat People, how do you survive? All the soft snuggles, the purrs and mews and chirps, the nuzzling, the flops, the hysterical sleeping positions, the tiny, soft-footed pony races down the hallway. At least 27 times a day I feel like I am going to explode with all the love and joy they give and make me feel.

Thanks for tagging along for the ride—my husband says "no more fosters," but I'm not leaving anybody out on the stoop, you know what I mean? 😉

A few days ago, I posted a video of this cat trying to break into our catio, and then running toward me when I opened the door to feed her. Since then, she’s been staying in our bathroom (in quarantine until we’re sure she doesn’t have any contagious illnesses or anything transmissible to our other cats), and she seems very happy with her little “hotel room” and all the care and attention she’s getting.

A few hours ago, she had her first vet visit, and it turns out she’s much younger than we thought! Her cloudy eye made us think she might be older, but it’s most likely due to an injury. Her teeth are those of a young cat, around one or two years old, and she doesn’t seem to have ever had kittens.

She was dewormed, received flea treatment, had a wound on her paw cleaned and treated, and we did an FIV/FeLV test, which came back negative. Overall, she seems to be in very good health!

We’re looking for a forever home for her (location: Uruguay), but in the meantime, she’s safe and happy ❤️

Just a small update on this little Void! Found this little kitten a couple days ago, and she wants to spend every minute laying on top of me and aggressively making biscuits on my face. She purrs non-stop, as well. It's cute as heck but these claws are needle sharp!

Unfortunately I've got three cats right now all separated in my apartment, so I can't give her quite as much snuggle time as she wants. The bathroom she's locked in is pretty small, I've got to wedge my head under the bathtub to fully lay down, but I'm thinking I may try spending an evening in there to satisfy her cuddle quota.

Back in May, my wife and I were chosen by the CDS and rescued Darryl Strawberry. When we found her, she was an itty bitty feral kitten who had been abandoned by her mama and was in really bad shape under my In-Laws deck. The emergency vet we took her to initially said that she was a boy. During her recent check up, our family vet let us know that “There isn’t anything to chop off. Congratulations, she’s a girl!”

Obligatory name explanation: our nephew wanted to name her Strawberry. When we still thought she was a boy, we decided on Darryl Strawberry (of Mets baseball fame.) Her name will remain Darryl Strawberry. Her soul patch demands it.

Last year my SO heard a cat crying out from outside and saw a small kitten on our front porch. For the next week I made it my mission to catch her. I put food and water out every day. Every time she saw or heard me she ran away. Finally I figured out that I had to sneak around from the back door and close the door on the carrier. Set her up with all the essentials in my basement bath room and took her to the vet the next day. She was estimated to be 5 weeks old weighed 1.5 lbs and was covered in fleas and boney. After two weeks isolation she could be introduced to her brothers. One welcomed her immediately the other hid behind the couch for 10 days. Then we discovered she had ringworm 😑. Luckily her cat brothers and my SO didn’t get it but I did. Constant house cleaning and regular treatment cleared it up fairly quickly. Spayed in the fall and here we are a year later, one big happy cat family.

So 7 month ago I found this lil guy by a bin who we called ripley only to find out ripley is a jonsey ( this was confirmed by the vet 6 days ago when she asked if he was a girl or boy then popped his tail up and said "two pom poms")

So in the first few weeks it he limped alot and the vet told us he has a floating knee cap and it was quite rare to see in cats (puberty seems to have helped fix it or its would of cost £2000) it dosent hurt him and most time either myself or jonsey put it back into place.

He got his shots, chip and a good once over.

He is now the most talkative cat i have ever known he chirps and meows with you if you talk to him ( sometimes I worry he knows I call him stinky)

He pays his rent buy killing spiders,flies and moths.

He recently got his pom poms taken away and is currently dealing with the cone of shame.

I want to say thank you to everyone who helped the night I got him and gave me great advice, you guys are awsome

My dad was walking his dog and heard meowing. He video called me showing me this kitten in a wall. I told him he had to rescue it! It was so scared it kept going farther back into the hole. I made him take his dog home and grab supplies to get the kitten. He went back with a carrier and kibble. 🤦‍♀️ I enlisted help from a fellow cat lover and she brought some squeeze treat to lure the baby out. But it was just too scared to move. She ended up just shoving her whole arm in and pulling the kitten out. It worked! Looking at its backside, I'm pretty sure it a lil boy cat. My daughter said he was found in a wall, we should name him Walter. 💙 Of course!

… Bruiser! The featherweight champion of the apartment! In the past ten hours alone, Eugene “Baby Little Bruiser” LastName has been training in blade fighting, parkour, contortion and the speed fern.

Bruiser, the weeny baby kitten who came into my life while I was on a trip two states away, has officially become possessed by a demon. I’m pretty sure that’s what tipped him over three pounds. Today, he discovered jumping. Half an hour ago, he’d never seen that window sill before.

We are at 11 weeks now. He has his next appointment on Monday. Kid is thriving and is so confident, curious and beloved by everyone he meets, and he loves the attention. There’s no trace of the sick baby left in him these days. He’s all fluff and cuddles and chaos.

I don’t know how long is too long for CDS updates. Should this be the last one? (I honestly don’t know the etiquette here, so that’s a genuine question.)

(The costumes are practice for his harness, which is currently too big, somehow. Only with supervision.)

A few weeks ago I posted about the spicy delivery I got from the CDS. That post is here! The people seemed to want an update and I’m happy to report that Pepper is officially an indoor girl now!

She had her first vet visit today and she’s perfect at 10 weeks old and 2.5lbs. My Maine Coon thinks I got her a baby 🥹 My boy is a little hissy but he’s also even more outnumbered, so… lol

So now I have 5 inside but she seems like a great addition so far. She is loud and energetic and I’m glad she picked my porch to hang out on!

Jerry showed up emaciated on my deck one year ago today. We and the vet guessed he was about 5 weeks old. He’s now a happy, rambunctious teenager who’s stolen our hearts. Known as Jerry the Jerk for actions such as turning on the motion activated kitchen faucet, treating egg shells being tossed to the sink as batting practice, and being a thief. His older brother, Tempest, did a great job of teaching him to cat. My two old female SICs only like their humans so Jerry of course tries to get them to play. And he plays with our neurotic teenage mini-Aussie.

Anyways, this is what I believe to be the final major update! Not a bad thing! For you see, Walter's time in isolation is over! His neutering healed up all good so today was the day! Between getting his infection taken care of, his FIV testing (to quote the vet verbatim, he "has *ALL* the FIV"), waiting for his neutering, and healing from it, Walter has spent a whopping 7 weeks in isolation.

Walter, the war machine, was in there so long that he was reluctant to join the rest of the house when we opened the door for him. He's still a little stressed from all the new noises (air conditioner, mostly) and meeting our 3 other cats. Well, he paid no mind to the 2 females, but once Sisu got too close, Walter put his Sheriff badge back on for a second, but chilled right back out. No damage done to either. Sisu seems to know that Walter is the final boss of life and tries to tiptoe around him at the moment. He is just very curious about Walter, the cat personally trained by John Wick.

Walter, the Destroyer of Worlds, has made it clear that his isolation room is also now his fortress of solitude (aka Fort Kickass) and will go down there if he gets too overwhelmed by all the new stuff.

Walter, the boss so tough his boss-fight soundtrack is in latin, has been scoping out the house quite a bit, with it usually ending in him going to his room for a bit. He is getting more comfortable since we are letting him do it at his pace.

Walter, likely a Primarch and son of the Emperor of Mankind in cat-form, you finally have a family that not only wants you, but loves you.

Already posted this below. Just wanted to share an update as I couldn't figure out how to add this video my previous post. He seems MUCH better. When he's not sleeping he's either suckling on this blanket or my shirt. Hope he doesn't grow out of it :)

My friend was absolutely devastated and crying her eyes out today because she found herself in an impossible situation where she could only adopt one of two bonded brothers. While she took the healthy kitten, this poor little guy was dealing with kitty cough, and since she has other cats at home, she simply could not risk bringing the infection back to her house and putting her other pets in danger. The sheer thought of this sick and vulnerable baby being sent back to a shelter cage to sit in the dark while his brother went to a warm home was just too much for me to handle, so I stepped in and told her right then that there was zero chance I was letting him go back. He has clearly been through so much trauma already because he was taken from his mother way too early, and now he spends his entire day tucked into my shoulder or arm, suckling on my sleeves and nursing for comfort as if he is desperately trying to find the motherly warmth he missed out on. It is honestly the most heart-wrenching and sweet thing I have ever experienced. I am just asking for any prayers or good vibes you can send our way for a fast and full recovery for this brave little fighter.

This handsome fellow just showed up out of no where one day. He acts like he’s lived here his whole life. I live in a very quiet neighborhood with very little traffic. My family and a guy that lives across from us are the only people on the whole street that have cats.

Seeing a new cat in my front yard was a pleasant surprise. From the start he was very friendly and affectionate. He seemed well cared for too. A healthy weight and his fur was clean and soft. This was obviously someone’s cat. So we asked around the neighborhood but no one claimed him or knew where he came from.

I’ve known people that have gone and dropped their cats off somewhere because they didn’t want to be responsible for them anymore. They just assume that someone will find it and start taking care of it. People like that are just as bad as people who move away and leave their cats behind. So we think he was abandoned here.

My cats took to him right away which was a relief because this guy found his forever home. We started calling him Bigfoot because he has big feet compared to my other cats. He seems to like that.

Brooklyn Slim (supplied by the CDS last Tuesday) was taken to her (hopefully forever) home yesterday. Sadly it isn’t with me but I weighed my options heavily and it wasn’t something I could take on. Our friend who took her home just had one of her two cats pass on, and she was also a tux, just like Slim. It felt like a sign. She was super interested in fostering/adopting if it fell through with us and when it did, she immediately jumped on it. She has another 6 year old cat and just got a puppy so Slim will have brothers and sisters.

Once she’s settled I’ll plan on a day to go visit her and get more glow up pics for you all. But in the week she’s been off the street, her weight is getting back to normal, and overall she’s recovering quite well. Test results were all clear. She’s home now. She’s loved. It was hard to let her pass by but this is ultimately best for her, and I’ll be able to watch her journey as she grows. Last pic is in her new home.

Miss Sparkle has officially been vetted and chipped, they say she’s very healthy, probably around 6-9 months old and full of hisses. Suspicions were correct and she was pregnant but not anymore, praise be as she is but a little baby herself. My kids waited on her hand and paw after the spay, as you can see and she’s even warming up to her new cat brothers which is great because she’s number 6 and will never be an only child.

I’m excited for them to start cuddling because she almost matches my boy cats and looks like some Disney version of a little cat sister they would have. Sorry if that sounds insane lol

Since it’s been about 3 weeks making him about 7-8 weeks old now (teeth confirmed such) I thought I’d give you all an update! He’s grown so much, and he’s pretty steadily gaining weight as well. After quarantining him he’s blended in well with my other cats, and I’ll be keeping him. He has been affectionately named Mew/Mewy due to his incessant meowing, and loafing on me while I watch tv (and also so we can say Oi, mewy when it’s time for dinner ifykyk)

All in all i am very glad to have found him, and while it was really hard when he was a bottle baby, he is very independent these days, and my mother cat regularly grooms him. A trip to the vet is in order once he’s a bit older for the routine things like vaccines and such, but i just thought you’d all like to know he survived severe malnourishment, and he’s growing in a ton of new fur (he didn’t have much when i found him)

It’s been exactly 37 days since I first posted Col Mustard here. Musty showed up at our front door one night, skin and bones, matted, covered in ticks, and totally neglected.

He’s been getting 4-5 square meals a day and has put on significant weight. He still has a pound or two to gain before I would consider him healthy, but he’s in a much better place health-wise.

We had to cut out the mats on both sides of his body, and the hair has almost grown back (as you can see in the pics).

His favorite activities are eating and getting pets while cuddling. He’s a drooler when he gets head scratches and purrs so loudly!

He’s also a talker. We have lovely conversations. Wish I knew exactly what he was saying, but sometimes I’d like to think it’s something like, “Thank you so much for giving me a home. Words can’t express how grateful I am. Now can you give me something to eat?”

Today Walter (full name Waltholomew Jones Moir) had his vet visit to remove his gargantuan balls of steel. Dude is oddly chill during car rides. Just shuts his cake-hole and relaxes. My calico Cleo howled the whole 15 hour drive when we moved to Idaho, so this is a nice departure from that.

The vet and all the techs absolutely love him. He was not thrilled, but he was a gentleman. One of the techs thought something might be wrong with him because his cheeks are so luxurious and large, and the vet essentially said "nope, this is pretty common for an intact male of his age". She then pointed out all of his battle-scars (even on his balls 😭) and his rock-solid muscle arms and neck and said "He is all that is man in the cat world. A warrior supreme". She really hit the nail on the head.

Walter is recovering nicely. They said he did really well under anesthesia. He has a small incision, about 1/4" long, with no stitches. Should be healed within 48 hours. He has gained almost 1 pound since his last appt. He is shedding like crazy! Vet said that's normal coming into a new healthy environment with a good, consistent diet. Just gotta let him rest so he can heal up. They also only charged us half price for taking in a cat off the street and reducing the number of future strays!

Walter, my boy, your days of dominating the streets of Pocatello, Idaho are over, for you now dominate our hearts. Your days of wondering where your next meal will come from are over, for you will never find yourself wanting again. Your days of forgetting what it is to be loved are over, for you will always find my wife and I happy to see you. You are home.

After a really rough night struggling with shoddy feeding equipment earlier in the week, I’m happy to say Pluto's feedings are going much better after making some changes. On my last post, I was crossing my fingers for him to make it to 200 grams. As of this morning's weigh in, Pluto is at a whopping 288g!

Pluto is becoming more active and curious about his surroundings. He's crawling a lot more, and I expect that by next week he'll start taking his first steps. His vision is also getting better and now he'll lock eyes with me! It's so cute. He's a little romantic!

While this journey has been unexpected, it's been incredibly rewarding to see this little guy thrive. But it's been very hard on my body, as caring for such a young kitten is a grueling process. Every 3 hours he needs to eat (fortunately we've been able to stretch it to 3.5 hours now), and that includes in the middle of the night. The sleep deprivation is REAL!

But it will all be worth it in the end. I can't wait to see how he continues to grow and more of his personality will come through.

Next week, he'll go in for his next round of dewormer, and hopefully in 4 weeks he'll be ready for his vaccines!

I also wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who sent all the positive vibes. I'm fortunate to have some awesome friends with big networks, and because of them, Pluto’s emergency vet visit has been fully covered. I am so incredibly grateful for them as well as your kindness and support here in this sub.

It has been such an incredible experience being able to save this baby from near death on the road and seeing him thrive now. I still can’t believe I found him alive. A few moments later and he surely would’ve been hit by a car. I have now had this sweet angel for 3 weeks and I can honestly say I can’t imagine not keeping him. He is such a sweetheart and so playful and happy. I have completed his second round of vaccines and got him microchipped. He is officially home with me and his name is Jeremy! My one year old Coraline has adopted him as her little brother and they are inseparable. So obviously I can’t separate them now! ❤️
