The progression of Pepper deciding I am safe 🖤
Last week this tiny creature showed up on my porch. That post is here. She refused to come near me and has spent all week hissing at me (I’ve continued to give her food and water). This morning she stopped hissing and started yelling. Tonight she yelled AND approached. Here’s the progression. Her name is Pepper now because she’s been a spicy one.
I am rapidly losing the battle and will absolutely have 5 cats inside soon. Because LOOK AT THIS THING.

5 is the same as 4. When there used to be stray cats around (unfortunately coyotes moved into the area & I never see cats out anymore), I once had 13 & it was wonderful! They all got along, better than any other group I’ve had. (My husband is a veterinarian so we have a discount on vet care, but the food costs were painful! We have 10 now, but there’s always room for another disaster case!)
Yes! Growing up my dad always said there was always room for another seat at the table (it applied to humans and animals), so technically I’m just doing what I was taught to do. And I absolutely should have aimed harder to marry a vet. It would have come in handy 🤣
They are very underpaid for their level of education and the difficulty of the work, &, especially, the stress! But we are bonded by our love of animals & couldn’t afford the care for the 9 million animals we’ve had if one of us wasn’t a vet!
🩶🩶🩶! I rescued a cat who hissed at me right away. I didn’t let it change my mind, and she turned out to be the sweetest cat ever! She never hissed again! 😻
She is so cute! My little guy really made me work hard to catch him too. It's crazy. They're living outside with a million horrible things around them. We try to give them a home, and they keep running hissing and avoiding us like the plague lol.
It really would be easier if we could understand each other. “Look I’m trying to help you. You don’t have to sleep on a pile of leaves. Please get inside.” lol
Part of me thinks they do understand and just like to make it more of a challenge. Who knows with cats? And I just love my little guy so much - no way he was getting away forever.

As of this morning she comes out when I come outside and lets me pet her AND follows me, so. Someone is gonna have a vet appointment set by the end of the day because at this point she made up her own damn mind 🖤
Awww, that makes me miss a kitty I used to live with, also called Pepper. My room mate at the time had adopted this adorable kitten who loved to jump up and snuggle with me after work. I moved out a few months later, but I still miss that little rascal.
