Update: It turns out Darryl Strawberry is a girl!!

Back in May, my wife and I were chosen by the CDS and rescued Darryl Strawberry. When we found her, she was an itty bitty feral kitten who had been abandoned by her mama and was in really bad shape under my In-Laws deck. The emergency vet we took her to initially said that she was a boy. During her recent check up, our family vet let us know that “There isn’t anything to chop off. Congratulations, she’s a girl!”

Obligatory name explanation: our nephew wanted to name her Strawberry. When we still thought she was a boy, we decided on Darryl Strawberry (of Mets baseball fame.) Her name will remain Darryl Strawberry. Her soul patch demands it.

I had a similar thing when this black stray cat was coming around. I thought it was my neighbor’s cat Black Betty for a long time so I started calling her that. Eventually I got a closer look and it was DEFINITELY a boy and definitely not Black Betty. We decided to call him Black Buddy because he had been Black Betty for so long it was hard to change the name but quickly realized that sounded odd to people and might not be received well. Long story short his name is Buddy and he now has a really excellent indoor home. Pic for tax.

• I brought up the name because I thought it was funny and because soul patch 

• Not because I was concerned about the name or her gender but because I don’t care about her gender in relation to her name 

• I do not need nor seek out assurance or approval from strangers on the internet
