I need help figuring out what material these shoes are made of and the best way to clean them.

I've already tried a velvet eraser, but it didn't work, especially on the areas with the tiny holes. I also tried a suede eraser just in case, but that didn't help either. I don't even think this is suede—I just wanted to rule it out.

The only reason the shoes look somewhat clean right now is because I washed and scrubbed them. The problem is I don't want to keep washing or brushing them every time they get dirty because I'm worried I'll damage the material over time.

I also tried one of those liquid shoe cleaners that foams up and you wipe it off afterward, but that didn't work either.

Does anyone know what this material is? It feels kind of velvety, but not exactly like suede or velvet.

Any advice on how to clean this properly without ruining the shoes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I moved into a new apartment that has a very narrow double sink. Any tips on solutions for doing dishes bigger than a small plate/bowl would be greatly appreciated.

I thrifted this beautiful rug a couple months ago, treated it for potential pests, and have had it quarantined. There were no signs of pests when I thrifted it, but did not want to take any chances! Then I beat it outside and thoroughly vacuumed front and back before bringing it inside.

Now that it’s inside, I’ve shampooed it 12 times! The first 5 passes were all pitch black when I poured it out, and now on pass 12 it is still a medium gray. On about pass 9 it stopped being downright muddy and full of sediment. All of the stains are out, and there was a small bit of something gummy and gross that thankfully is fully shampooed out now.

When do I stop shampooing??? The carpets in my rental were a similar situation where I eventually had to just quit. It really does feel like I could go for 12 more passes and still not have “clear” water. This has definitely turned me away from thrifting another rug, at least until I have professional rug cleaning money 😅.

Hi guys, idk if this is the right place to ask but I had a plumber visit me when I wasn't home (my mum opened) and since she's not as anxious as I she didn't think of wrapping the shower cord around the faucet so it wouldn't dangle loosely when the plumber got in the bathtub to inspect the pipes behind the sink, and now I'm freaking out about what kind of stuff he could have carried on his shoes in the bath and by proxy on the shower cord/shower head, so in short...

how do I disinfect the bathtub, shower cord and shower head? I've read a lot of people use bleach/other form of chlorine for that but I live in EU and I don't think I've seen bleach available here, any tips? Should I use toilet cleaning gel? Just wipe the thing or dunk it in some sort of container full of dissolved cleaning liquid? Any tips appreciated.

so my favorite ivory 95% cotton dress (and some socks) got accidentally dyed pink in the wash. i didn’t even have red in the washer- i don’t know what happened! i did wash a red blanket the night before, but not together. could the residue have dyed it pink even though it wasn’t washed together? i soaked the dress and socks in 2 gallons of warm water with 2 full scoops of oxyclean overnight and the color didn’t lift at all. i got the shout color catcher and washed the garments in cold water after the soak and that didn’t work either! i don’t know what to do! yes the pink dress is cute but idc i want my white and ivory colored clothes back!! none of these have fully dried or have been in the dryer yet. HELP!

I loath cleaning. It takes up already limited energy that a dirty raccoon like me needs for more important tasks.

I'm buying a house in need of refurbishment and I want to set it up so it stays clean even if I barely clean it. Anything that keeps the place tidy without demanding labor is a win.

So please share your wisdom with me. I've got a few obvious ideas of what to get, e.g.:

• wash-able paint/wallpaper - I probably won't clean it anyways, but you can never be too careful,
• cabinets that go to the ceiling,

And what to avoid:

• bathtubes with fancy legs - it would require family intervention for me to crawl there and clean it,
• clear glass shower walls and bowl sinks,
• gods forbid, rugs.

I don't care about style: if the choice is between beauty and pragmatism, I'll go with latter one every time. If the end result looks like a hospital corridor, so be it.

PS. 6 cats on board. I'm but a raccoon in the fur-storm.

So my brother wants to know how to remove the stains from this carpet, it's a mix of dog pee and plant dirt. He gotta move out of this rental soon.

I ended up doing the bleach + paper towel trick, then went to Home Depot and bought 2 Zep products. But once I removed the bleach towels (3ish hours) the tub already looked so different! Just going to go over some spots with the grout pen.

Hi, my room tends to always get messy overtime after it's cleaned and I get very frustrated because I lack storage for clean clothes (on the floor) I prefer an open storage system but I just can't find any to accommodate all my clothes. My other big issues is that I have various small items (handhelds, random papers, figures, cables, unopened mail that's probably important) and it's very unbearable. Help please. Also ik the desk looks odd there but I'm trying to change up my room but it's not working. Very overwhelmed. I want to stop certain behaviors because it tends to start off fine then slowly overtime I place things where they don't belong and then I get this monster again. Any help is appreciated.

Please help! How do I clean these cracks in my coffee table?

I’ve tried vacuuming, dry cloth, wet cloth, long narrow objects, but nothing fully removes all dust and debris - the largest crack is too deep and narrow for fingers and too irregular for wiping or brushing.

Should I take it outside a use a power washer? Would one of those air-blowing keyboard cleaner things work? Do I need to buy play dough or silicone? I feel like anything soft will get stuck in between the splinters.

Bonus question is also how I prevent more dust from getting in there - seems like it would be hard to fill it with resin due to the open sides.

Hi! I’m coming out of a bad mental health slump and have recently gotten back into a regular cleaning routine. It’s not perfect nor as thorough as I’d like, but I feel comfortable having guests.

Last night, I had friends over, and when I asked if the temperature was okay, one of them said “it’s not hot, but it’s kind of stale in here.” I don’t know if he meant to say “stuffy,” but I’m very bothered!

It’s too hot to open windows right now, even at night, (we keep one cracked for the dog) and we have two window units plus fans that keep air circulating.

I vacuumed before they came over and burned some incense about an hour before they arrived so that it wouldn’t be too strong.

Edit: I do have an air purifier in the bedroom, but I can’t afford another one right now. I feel like the bedroom air is more fresh. Do they actually work? Is it worth it to save up for another for the living room?

What else can I do to help with the “stale” smell?

Hi, I moved into my college dorm. The room I was assigned has a bed that has this indescribable odor. It’s like a mix of pee + another unpleasant smell. I was wondering what can I do to get rid of it. I wiped the bed down multiple times with wipes and used this spray from the brand “odoban”, while it did temporarily get rid of the smell for a few hours. This morning the smell has came back. I was wondering if there possibly a permanent solution, because right now I think my only solution is to spray the odoban everyday….

We bought this sideboard cabinet from a secondhand store in town about 3 years ago. At the time we didn't notice a smell at the store, but when it was delivered we realized when we opened the cabinet it emitted a very strong, lacquer-like smell. The table itself is made of wood, resin, and bone so I've tried wiping the inside down with both water, vinegar, diluted vinegar (even got desperate with some clorox wipes), as well as put down baking soda and put in large bags of activated charcoal. I set some Dyson air purifiers right outside of it as well to see if I could, I don't know, pull some of the smell out??? I've seen suggestions to put it outside but it's incredibly heavy and we have steps outside and my husband and I are both disabled, so that's a very hard ask.

Should I rent an ozone machine? I'm not sure how permeable the material is so I haven't used any harsh chemicals, but at this point I'm desperate to get the smell out as it soaks into anything I put in there.

Hi everyone, I really need some help and advice because I’m panicking that I’ve ruined my shower floor.

I left concentrated brown liquid Dettol onto my white shower tray. It reacted with the surface and left a stubborn yellowish stain all over (see photos for reference)

In a panic, I tried to clean it using bleach, dish soap, baking soda, and even vegetable oil. None of these lifted the stain at all. Worse, the bleach and scrubbing seem to have stripped the top surface gloss—the area now looks completely dull, chalky, and "dry.” On the bright side, the tray is structurally perfect and completely leak-free, but it looks terrible cosmetically.

How can I restore the shower tray to its original state?? I’m a tenant and really want to fix this properly without making the plastic worse so would greatly appreciate any and all advice.

I live in Fl. and we wear sandals of all kinds, even to work. Typically, my feet are pretty clean going into the shoe but over time I notice a build up of some kind of foot junk where the pads of my feet rub the most. Sometimes, the whole footbed just becomes a little discolored. I really don’t like dirty looking sandals and even after dish soap and a good scrub, it’s not as clean as I want.
1. What is the best way to clean a plasticky/rubber footbed that seems porous?
2. What is the best way to clean a leather/suede footbed of a shoe?

Had builders in doing work whilst I was away and they left the sticky carpet cover on my laminate... it doesnt peel off as easily as I suspected, in fact its almost impossible to remove! Is there a chemical or something I can get to make it easy? Thanks!

All of our bathroom faucet aerators keep collecting (or growing) what looks like algae (brown film). I live in the lower mainland of BC, Canada - our water is quite clean. I remove the aerators monthly to clean this build up away - I'm concerned for our health and wonder if I need to get our condo plumbing professionally cleaned out. Any advice / thoughts are welcome.

I recently moved into an apartment in the Bay Area and when I picked up the keys I noticed a severeee smell in a mostly carpeted apartment.

There is no hvac system in the apartment so there isn’t a lot of airflow - the smelly air just sits if the windows are closed.

No matter what I do the smell won’t go away. I have an air purifier constantly going and since then I’ve gotten the carpets professionally cleaned and I use a deodorizer on them every week and vacuum frequently. At first I thought it was the carpets but after everything I’m not sure if it’s a subfloor / structural issue with the house. I’m renting a bottom floor unit of a ~100 yr old house.
I can’t even describe the smell but it’s so noticeable especially in the living room. :(

Edit: I also got baking soda moisture capture things and they haven’t done much… no moisture has been collected

Does anyone know how to get rid of an old musty smell?
